I did something similar to the JB weld repair on my 290. I cut a piece of styrene to fit the chip, and glued it in with some liquid superglue. Then I put some model putty over it to fill the gaps and match the contours, and sand it all smooth, then paint it with a flat enamel model paint. I did this a few years ago, and its still holding up, I've ran it a bunch at train shows on the club layout without any issues.

Why not just cut the axle in the middle and then use a small piece of brass tubing as a splint to glue it back together?

I was going to suggest something very similar, but I haven't tried it.

Looks like that would work. I would find a donor front truck as I have a stash of locomotives to rob parts from. But your repair might be just as good.

My 326 has that exact problem. Its the last thing to fix on it. What Im really baffled by is how it got chipped like that.

Axel replacement wire,3/32 welding wire comes in 36" long.

I know JB Weld can be very useful but the first time I tried using it it stunk up the entire house so now I only use it in the summer when I can use it outside. Am I doing something wrong or is how bad it really smells?

I have used JB weld and it doesnt stink too much. However some epoxies do smell pretty strong. Should be 50-50 mix. Maybe too much of one or the other might smell
