Is there a video you've made which hasn't answered any questions I might have about this or that regarding fishkeeping? I think not 😄 I'm considering changing substrate on a nano and redoing the scape on a slightly bigger one and I was wondering how to handle the fish and the expected ammonia spike... Now I know and I'll throw some extra filter media in both tanks beforehand to help with the transition and the beneficial bacteria. Merci beaucoup!

Great video. I hope you don’t mind an off topic question? I’m wanting to get a larger tank for my south/Central American cichlids. They are currently in a 150 tall. My options are either a 180 or a 210 gallon does one have any advantage over the other? Thanks!

The 180 is a little easier to maintain and work on because side it’s shorter, but the 210 gives you a little more volume.

Great video 👍 I rescaped mine with sand over smooth gravel 66.5g & left my fish in & dropped the water 40% & as I lined the gravel with strengthened polyfilter media all my fish did was move to the other end & I weighted the corners with washed sand & when I got to the fiish end just moved them over & they was fine why I added the rest of the sand.

Totes. Totes are ALWAYS the answer. My plan (and feel free to poke as many holes in it as necessary) is, when I eventually pull off "the great tank upgrade", I will be pulling fish from different aquariums and separating them out into 40 gallon totes by continent (or country, in the case of South and Central America). That way, when they go into their new enclosures, they'll have had at least SOME exposure to each other, albeit in a highly stressed situation.

Timely tips! Further question…I have to move 5 aquascaped tanks 4 hours south (moving). I was going to strip them and bucket the plants, hardscape and filter media…but was going to bag the fish. Do you think totes may be better (with air stones)…with lid? Ps my tanks are 20 longs and 29s…nothing huge

In the 50 low boy, how much Fritzzyme 7 are you using? Just curious because I am changing out the substrate in my 40 breeder that is about 5 years old and I plan on using Fritzzyme. I'm not changing any of the fish, plants or hardscape, just the gravel.

I just use the recommended amount. All my filter media was still cycled too.

I rescaped a 20 gallon tank about 10 days ago. I've used old filter media, added Fritz 7, Prime, water changes every other day, added multiple stem plants...and I'm still getting ammonia and nitrites when testing. I've done this before, and it's never taken more than 7 days to cycle. Not sure what else to do.

Could you please identify the red substance you have along the bottom of your tank. I have the same on glass, large rocks and anubias. Is it algae or bacteria and what causes it. Been fighting it for years. Would love for you to identify. Thank you

It’s algae and I find it very interesting. No fish or tank inhabitant eats it.
