I have found that vacuum sealing powders helps keep them from clumping. Also storing in as smal a jar as possible that will allow the volume you have to store.
@Metqa
@Metqa Жыл бұрын
If you keep your smaller jars that have a rubber ring on them , for example from pesto or small sauces, then you can vacuum seal them by putting the filled lidded jar into a larger contaner that you can vacuum. so a container withing a container, and then vacuum the big container. It will putll the air out of the small container inside,and when you release the vacuum from the larger container, the pressure of air will push down and seal the smaller container which still has a vacuum thanks to the rubber seal on the lid. I've done this for several small recycled containers and it's great!

Can you use the Strawberry powder to add for Lemonade, and do you need to add alot of Sugar or would the strawberry powder have ample Sugar?
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 3 жыл бұрын
It will not have ample sugar - and it's a flavoring agent. It is sweet, but probably not enough to do what you typically expect from lemonade. And it does not dissolve like a drink powder - it will leave a little grit in your pitcher or glass. So if you use a fine mesh tea strainer to steep in the lemonade, it will give you flavor, sweetness and no grit.

No - you might be thinking of moisture absorbers, not O2 absorbers, and for green powder it's really not needed. But for some vegetable powders and most fruit powders, a moisture absorber is definitely helpful to prevent clumping.

Do you know if it’s safe to use the desiccant packs that come in OTC medicine bottles (there’s always one in my lactase supplement, and my husband’s omeprazole) for storing in homemade powders? I usually save them and toss them into totes of seasonal decorations since I live in a humid area, but if I could reuse them like this it would save me money!

I don't recommend it. They carry the remnants of the medication that you are then putting into your food. You don't know how long they've been used and if they are still working, they can't be recharged, etc. Food grade moisture absorbers are fairly inexpensive in small quantities and can be recharged almost indefinitely.

What do you use the tops for? It looks like there are tops in the dehydrated “mush”?
@ThePurposefulPantry

Yes - as I said in the video, we do the whole strawberry for the mush, we do the whole strawberry when freezing for smoothies, and the tops are used for teas and to feed our rabbit.

Please answer Last year I bought a cheap Walmart presto round dehydrator I think I wasted my money. I don’t think it’s powerful enough to be any good for anything.. Does anyone think the same? Is this one any good to use? Should I buy a better dehydrator????? Thanks
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 3 жыл бұрын
It is good, but it's not powerful, so things will take longer to dry - even though it runs only at one temperature (which is high). Of course, if you have the money, I would suggest investing in a better dehydrator that's more efficient and help you more. But if you don't this one will work, you just have to be patient with the time.

I just purchased a Samson dehydrator and tossed my salton pro.. on my second attempt at strawberries.. they have taken 24 hours now and I turned them higher since I’m only using them for food coloring.. but they did go darker.. and they are rubbery.. yours ‘click’ when putting them in your grinder. I do live in a high humidity area.. I hope I don’t have to toss these 4 bags of berries too.

@@ThePurposefulPantry they were already sliced and frozen from the store.. thinking that’s what happened.. too much moisture plus this humidity..I used 118 F at first next I tried 135 then 122.. they do click in my melamine bowl today.. going to test powder them in a. It🤞🏻..we may just have too much humidity for berries and pineapple

My strawberries (leather) have been dehydrating for 63 hours now and they're still rubbery. Should I give up on getting powder out of them?
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 жыл бұрын
Rubbery is what you need - if they are solid, you've flipped them, they are leathery on the surface, then they are likely done and ready to pull.

@@ThePurposefulPantry I'm not sure what you're saying. They're really sticky. I left them sit out for an hour or so and now they're even more sticky. So they're back in the dehydrator now.

Dry them in the oven if you don't have a dehydrator, but use a very low setting or warm it then turn it off.

I have been dehydrating fruits, for my kids,for a long time now.I could never ground the strawberries,no matter how I dehydrate them,halves, chopped, fresh or frozen.Somehow ,even though they are super dry,they are too sticky to be grounded.I tried the vitamix (a disaster) and the coffee grinder.

You can see they can be powdered - so rethink how you might be doing it. Pulsing a lot first is really helpful.

It's not recommended having fruit that may not be fully dehydrated in a low oxygen environment. However, dry your fruit properly for storage and it shouldn't be an issue - but I don't. It's not as useful as using moisture absorbers.
