Philly boy born and raised. You did a good job with this food video. You saved the best for last, Philly beer culture! There are more craft breweries and brew houses in town. Yards is the largest in the city. Good food and great beer. If you want to eat it, you can find it here in Philly; Chinese in Chinatown, German at Brauhaus Schmidt’s, Italian everywhere. If you want a Michelin 5 star restaurant or a Brazilian steakhouse, we have it. The homage to our beloved Wawa is appreciated. Two big Philly Phanatic thumbs up for this video. Next time you’re in town, we can get a chicken cutlet Italian at Tony’s, it will knock your socks off!

Just came across this after watching your Dublin videos. Great video of what to eat. I used to work a block from the Reading Terminal to eat. Lunchtime was great. The liquor license cost so much if you are staring a new business. They are limited and they can cost upwards of 250,000. Since I as a kid numerous years ago there was only two to three "4 star restaurants." Now there are so many. With that video I think you could tailgate at any Eagles game and be accepted by the locals. That is the best compliment I can give...lol.

BYOB is bring your own beverage, you can bring your own wine too 😉 you’re meant to tip extra if you do (as if you had paid for the beverage there…) bc the server is opening it for you/providing the glass or chilled mug and cleaning up after. Another fun twist, some Mexican places give free margaritas bc they are BYOB and don’t have a license to sell you alcohol, but they can gift it to you. If you do get a water ice there’s often another tasty option called a gelati, which is gelato with water ice. Lastly, you may hear people ordering ice water as a beverage in restaurants, and it means tap water with ice. Be VERY aware of your surroundings if you take Septa, especially at night. (Local here 😉)

People who know or learn I grew up in Philly will ask me if Pat's or Geno's is better, because they heard about them in a travel video, or mentioned on a sports podcast. I never been to either, which usually gets a surprised reaction, but it's for good reason. I'm from Tacony, so South Philly might as well been another planet, and there are at least twenty places I can remember in walking distance you could get cheesesteaks and hoagies from that were solid. It never crossed our minds to go to either, because they were just two places in a city of 5,000 cheesesteak shops.

Love this - all good and valid! The BYOB/Bring Your Own Bottle applies to beer and wine and liquor. It's a pain for restaurants, because they would love to sell alcohol, but it's nice for diners, whose bills aren't inflated by marked-up beer and wine prices (you can get a decent wine for $10, but by the glass it's probably $12-$15)

One correction - "gravy" isn't marinara. Many places that serve/sell "gravy" also sell marinara. Gravy is thicker, more heavily flavored, and usually cooked/flavored with pork or beef.
