I think one of the best pros of the Local/OSheans is the ease of eating there. I believe many cruisers just do not remember or even know they serve breakfast. I can usually get in and out rather quickly and I don't have to hover over others waiting for a table to open up in the buffet area.

I was just on Norwegian in Asia the first two weeks of january. We did oscheans almost every morning for breakfast because it was made fresh and hot compared to the buffet and much quicker than the dining rooms. Your spot on with the order of things you like and did not like the French toast was definitely my favorite.

We never eat at the buffet one of the many things we love about Norwegian. The fruit salad is great! I hope the bring the round hash browns back. The Taste and Savor have great eggs benedict. Oatmeal on a cruise….would never consider it. LOL

Oh my, loooove NCL Gem! Although older and smaller, it's a beautiful ship (love the pastel colour scheme on the top outside decks!) And although she doesn't have the big water slides and fun-adventurous hoopla like the ones on the newer and bigger ships, I still had a wonderful experience on her ... I love, love, love the separate open/outdoor buffet at the back of the ship (the 'Great Outdoors') ... enjoyed my breakfast there every morning! I imagine you enjoyed the ship as much as I did! 😊

Definitely NOT leaving yolks out. Yolks have so many good nutrients and fats. Wonder if you can get peanut butter for the oatmeal. Simple fix to thicken and add good protein and fat. I'd bring a scoop of peanut butter protein powder/pbfit powder to do the thickening.

Yolks have so many good nutrients and fats." *Absolutely* agree! 💯👍 I wanted to but wasn't going to comment on his sharing about his dietary restriction with eggs [because this is a cruise info channel rather than a dietary/nutritional channel] ... yet I am glad that you did. 😊 More contemporary studies have proven that high blood cholesterol is NOT contributed by eating eggs or even saturated fats (there are other more complex mechanism that are contributing factors). Egg is a very nutrient-dense super-food *by virtue of its yolk* ... without it, the egg [white] is just a bunch of protein. 🤷

I love NCLs selection of teas, my favorite is the Chai, although hard to find. Totally agree, the oatmeal is watery, even in the buffet! I prefer it thicker. And my favorite breakfast on ship is an omelette. Thank you for all your good tips👍

Just got off the Prima and found the help yourself breakfast in the Indulge Food Hall was fantastic! Hardly crowded at all, unlike the very crowded buffet, breakfast was wonderful! The Local was a bit small and hidden on the Prima so we only went once for a late night order of wings (which were delicious) 😊

I think eating their at 5am for breakfast works well for early risers so you have plenty of time to digest before going on excursions or to the gym early. The gym is to make room for all the delicious food you will be eating so you don't disembark weighing 500lbs.

I love some good brioche French toast it is probably the only reason I actually bake brioche bread lol. I'm glad you mentioned the bit about oatmeal. I like it a lot but I am very particular about how I eat it and so watery would not make me happy. I'm in the final countdown for my cruise in April and getting more excited by the day. Hey Grant! I'm an omelet girl, and love to have them made with whites only, so thanks for that. I do like corned beef hash, but it needs to be made from scratch and not from the stuff in a can. That didn't look very appetizing to me, so I'm sure I will skip it. Like you, I prefer the thicker oatmeal, so I will more than likely pass on it as well. I was on Norwegian Sky in June of 2022 I was very disappointed with the local they were closed for breakfast and lunch even though it was a sold-out ship they opened at 6 p.m. and they closed at 2 a.m. not 24 hours no lunch no breakfast very disappointed

I’m going in 3 weeks on the Bliss to Alaska. I was planning on MDR for eggs Benedict (my favorite) for any mornings that are at sea and room service for any mornings with an early excursion, but now I wanna figure out a time to try the Local’s breakfast at least once. Looks good and relaxed! I love that there are seats at the Local that overlook the atrium for people watching.

Hi Naenae 👋 No silly questions! So the official answer is "no", but in practice they won't stop you from taking food back to your room from the buffet. They may give you a little bit more hassle takin food from the specialty dining / dining rooms, but a little charm goes a long way 😉 Yay for your first every cruise!! I know you'll have a great time. I tend to prefer my meals at the buffer (I've always love buffets even on land--loooove those all-you-can-eat buffets 😋) ... and I've often bring food (mostly desserts) and beverages back to my cabin with no problem and no one looked at me funny. Nevertheless, I can understand why bringing back Specialty Restaurant food would be "flown upon", but I guess if you can't finish your entrée and want to take the leftover away as a "doggie bag" or may be even take away a dessert, I see no reason why it's not "kosher" ... but then this I hadn't tried. If you did [try], then please share your experience. 🙏 BTW, my experience was only on NCL ships ... don't know about other cruise lines.

Hi there 👋 Thanks for the comment. The official answer is no, the staff are not supposed to let folks take food way; but the practical answer is that they will often look the other way. I sometimes will bring small tupperware or zip lock bags to take a snack for longer excursions that don't include a meal. Hope this is helpful!
