I've always dreamed of joining the IBEW and becoming an electrician in a place and career I can be proud of, to have that brotherhood, and be the best I can be and grow within the career, ever since I was in highschool and I first heard of them from my construction teacher, I loved it so much I took it 2 years of that class. They rank you based on your interview so if you didn't rank within the top 100 you wont be getting into an apprenticeship that year. And every time more people interview and they get ranked better that pushes you back on the list. Most say you need to rank top 60!

Or how does that work when I apply for an apprenticeship? Sorry if this is a dumb question im new to this but I really enjoy what I'm learning so far.
@unionminded79183 жыл бұрын
It's not a dumb question at all. You would need to contact the local jatc which runs the apprenticeship program for an accurate answer though. What I will say is that it will be helpful in understanding the material you will be learning in theory class.

Experience plays a role in how you're classified. The route you choose to become a journeyman is either apprenticeship or the upgrade program. There are requirements either way. The local near you can better answer those questions.

Apprenticeship is a full time job and classes. This all happens when you're accepted into the program. Some locals will put you to work as a helper while you're going through the application process if they have a sufficient amount of work. Once you start classes though you're gainfully employed throughout apprenticeship as long as you keep your scores up and you show up to work everyday and give 8 hours of work for 8 hours of pay.

Great video, but how long is the initial apprenticeship class and do you have to stay on campus?
@RB-xv4si3 жыл бұрын
It’s not like college where you stay on campus. These apprenticeships are 3-5 years depending on where you are and exactly what specialty you are in (inside wireman, residential wireman, outside lineman, etc). Most of the apprenticeship will actually be on the job training. Usually you go to class one day per week and you get paid for classroom time just like you get paid on a typical work day. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will take a journeyman exam to get your license.

Thank you for the video! I sent an application and they recommended that people go to the Iprep study guide, which has really difficult algebra that mainly has advanced problems solving for X. Can you please tell me if the test is similar to these problems, or a little bit more basic algebra? If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated thank you. Example 1: i. 2x - 4y = 12 ii. 3x - 2y = 10 Example 2: ½x = 2 − ¼y Which of the following statements is true for this formula? A. When the value of x is less than 4, y is negative. B. When the value of x is greater than 4, y is positive. C. When the value of y is less than -6, x is positive. D. When the value of y is greater than -6, x is positive. Example 3 Which of the graphs represents the following two linear equations? x + y = 3 x - y = 1 Then they show graphs for the answers Example 4: Simplify the following expression to its simplest form. Consider B = 5 and C = -1: (A3 + A)/A + (C + B)(B - C) - A2 25 A3 - A2 + 24 2A2 - 23 A + 24 Example 5: Consider the following formula: B = √(C - 2) Which of the following statements is true for this formula? A. If C is greater than 2, B can only be positive B. If C is less than 2, there are no solutions for B C. If B is negative, there are no solutions for C D. If C is less than 2, B can only be negative Example 6: Isolate the variable from the formula: T = 1/f f = w/2π T = __?__ A. 2π/w B. w/2π C. f/w D. f/2π

It's a free country but you will be tested prior to being accepted into the program and before starting any job. From application to interview can take weeks. Be patient but if it seems like it's been a while and you haven't heard anything, there is nothing wrong with a phone call to find out what your status is.

You will be asked why you want to join? You'll be asked to give an example of a time you failed and what you took away from that failure? You'll be asked if you prefer to work alone or in a group? These are some that I remember from my interview all of those years ago.
@venitocamelo67044 жыл бұрын
@@unionminded7918 thanks i really appreciated , on the question what do you prefer to work alone or in a group which answer is the right one ?? or should i say both
@unionminded79184 жыл бұрын
Can't really say what is the right answer or what's the wrong answer. I can tell you what I said, I said both because it's TRUE for me. I can work alone and I can work in a group and either way I'm fine. But that's me. I answered all of their questions honestly. Didn't try to make myself into what I thought they wanted me to be. I hope that makes sense.

Breathe. Slow inhale, slow exhale. Slow your heart rate down by controlling your breathing. Take your time when answering questions. Be thoughtful. Remember they started in your shoes and know how you feel. Most importantly, breathe.

I would say that you should think about what you bring to the table. Desire is super important. Also though if you're able to pick up things quick that would be an asset. Make a list of things you think are positive attributes you have and remember it. That may help.
