When I was doing CAT claims, I had different percentages with different IA firms at different times in my career. My recollection is that when I applied to IA firms, they often serviced multiple carriers; each carrier sent their fee schedule to the IA firm, and I'd be sent that fee schedule based on if I'd be doing claims for that carrier and that IA firm. At a few IA firms I had a lower percentage for the first claims (e.g. first 20 claims), then it would increase to a standard amount. Often it was around 60-70%. Sometimes IA firms would be desperate for adjusters and would offer a larger percentage. Choosing an IA firm was a factor of a) their reputation, b) the fee schedule, c) the percentage offered, d) the likelihood of being deployed longer-term rather than shorter-term, d) other misc factors. This was back in the early 2000's - unsure what the percentages are now. Some companies, like StateFarm, have moved away from percentages and have other methods of calculating adjuster pay.
