I had my first cataract removed last week...I was given concious sedation...I felt nothing, heard nothing, saw nothing and when I did at the end of the surgery I had no pain, no discomfort of any kind...I was amazed at how bright and white and clear everything was...thru my other eye things looked dingy and yellowed..I had no idea!!! I'm glad I didn't put off doing it...I get the other eye done in 6 weeks. If you're anxious or fearful, don't be. It's as easy as it gets..my only advice would be to make sure you've got a good eye surgeon.

I was scared witless for my first surgery. My BP was sky high and I had to have extra sedation. Anyway, the surgery was a piece of cake. I felt nothing. I was awake and remember the whole thing. When I had the second one done, I was not nervous at all. It takes a while to get used to the new sharply imaged colorful world. I couldn't stop looking at the leaves on trees because I could see each individual leaf. I also realized that traffic lights had many small individual bulbs and not one large one. I'm now taking the colorful world for granted again. I don't miss the old yellow-tinged world.

I had both cataracts replaced in 2015. Aged 58. Procedure undertaken by Bendigo Eye Surgeons, Victoria, Australia. I had worn contact lenses for 35 years. Very short sighted. Good eyesight restored immediately after surgery. I was able to watch tv in the recovery room minutes after leaving the operating room. There was a small gap between treatments, right eye first, left eye a week or so later. 7 years later. All still good. No need for glasses for golf, driving or reading text on my phone. Best present ever to myself. Mr/Dr Farokh Irani is, imo, brilliant. Thank you.

I put off getting cataract surgery for a long time. Almost a decade, in fact. When my regular eye doctor scolded me and told me it was time, I finally decided to go ahead and do it. I have "white coat" high blood pressure, and the day of surgery I was a wreck. I was finally calm enough to be able to have the surgery and the only thing I regret is not getting it done sooner. All of a sudden I could see. Yes, just one eye, but I could see! I had no idea that the world had turned so murky while the cataracts continued to age. When I went in for my next day follow up, I asked if I could just, you know, go over to the surgery center and get that pesky left eye taken care of. Unfortunately, due to demand I guess, I have to wait a month! I'm sure that more than one person thought I was having a seizure or losing my mind as I stood or sat in one place and took turns opening one eye and then the other comparing the differences. My "new" eye saw everything clearly. My left eye, everything is murky and a yellowish/grayish/brownish color. Which, when it happens so gradually, you don't even notice how bad your eyesight is getting. Since I was finally able to admit that I was having issues, I'm so glad I went ahead and had it done. I said all that to say this - don't hesitate. Find yourself a good doctor or group and just get it done. I didn't get the upgraded lenses because since I have been wearing glasses all of my life, the idea of having glasses only for reading did not upset me at all.

I just completed having both cataracts removed and the standard lens implanted. I had the drop less cataract operations done on both eyes, I was not a candidate for the Toric or any other of the premium lens. All I can say is WOW what a difference I went from +6.25 in the left eye and +6.00 in the right eye to having distance vision of 20/25 vision in the left eye and 20/20 in the right eye. I do need reading glasses for close up but +2.25 in both eyes is so nice and not needing to have those nerd glasses anymore for living is awesome. I am 66 years old and the doctor examine today the doctor said I actually even exceeded his expectations. I told him I expected of having at least a +2.00 in both eyes but what I got was much better then expected. Having worn glasses since I was 4 years old this was so completely different. I am over the moon in how much of an improvement in my quality of life to see details even when I am in the shower I can easily see details that I have never seen before. Oh yeah one of the prior posts someone mention they were scarred when he had the first eye done so was I and when I had the first eye done I don't remember anything. The 2nd eye I do remember just that there was light in my eye being operated on but it was a fleeting memory.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes July 2022. I did develop a secondary cataract in my right eye which was removed in January. I do have a few floaters in my right eye, but I don't consider them to be serious. I no longer need glasses when driving or watching TV, going to a movie. I do need reading glasses. Had my eyes tested last month...I am at 20/30 in both eyes. My right eye 2 years ago was 20/80. Putting in eye drops several times a day post surgery is kind of a hassle, but that only lasts for a few weeks.

I just had cataract surgery yesterday, and my center is a learning center. Where there are residents assisting and the surgeon allowed the resident to perform this procedure on me, apart from ignoring my need of more numbing medication or anesthesia. I felt it all and i suffer from severe anxiety, causing me to cry and hyperventilate, and just wanting to jump from the bed. It was one of the worst experiences after the loss of my baby, by far.

When I had my first eye done I became totally aware in the middle of surgery when my doctor had her instruments in my eye. The surgeon got very excited and told me it was imperative that I not move because her instruments were in my eye. It was very painful and when I started to swear the nurse's laughed and one said the other, "I guess we'll learn some new words today ladies". The Anesthesiologist asked the surgeon, "should I give her more?" Prior to surgery I told EVERYONE that I metabolize/flush anesthesia and no one believed me (even though I've had a broken back, knee reconstruction and breast reduction surgeries where it always happened). It was so traumatic that I could barely get the courage to do my 2nd eye.

I just had my right eye done last week..lots of drops before, mild "twilight" sedation, awake for the 20 minute procedure. I suppose the only irritation I had, was the speculum, which holds your eye open. Even that wasnt too bad, they gave me some post-op numbing drops. The next day, was like night and day in clarity. Cant wait to do the left eye, as your depth perception is a bit off with one eyeglass lens out and one in....but totally worth it. Readers for PC work, but giving the eye time to heal before I determine strength needed.

I had a macular hole surgery. And a byproduct is a cataract. I just had a cataract surgery last week. It’s not bad at all. But be ready for an eye drop extravaganza. In my case 2 weeks of 3 different eye drops four times a day. Then 2 weeks of one eye drop twice a day Guess my advice is don’t worry but be prepared for the eye drop regiment. The macular hole surgery was much more taxing than the cataract surgery. You’ll do fine. Don’t worry at all.

That colors everything with a dingy yellow tint ! The other eye, is clear and colors are bright ! It was almost mesmerizing when I first discovered the difference in eyes ! After a couple days I was opening and closing first one eye, and then the other ! When I was made aware of the difference between eyes ! I kept doing it, over and over, almost in disbelief ! And actually had a rather sobering moment, thinking my vision prior to the surgery, was this disgusting yellow tint ! I had no idea, as I guess the Cataracts grow so slowly, we don't notice it ! Very surreal ! Will be happy to get thru the Second surgery ! I might even buy some new Cool Sunglasses ! 👍😎

A fine point. After the lens is implanted, vision WILL BE variable for about at least a month. Some days your vision will be ASTOUNDINGLY sharp. Some days not so much. That's normal. Especially if you're still using steroid drop after surgery. Steroids themselves have a way to affect you vision clarity. How long before things get stable? At LEAST 6 weeks. But more like 2-3 months.

With my permission, my doctor surgically corrected my astigmatism where my right eye is presently 2 diopters and left eye is non-astigmatic. If your cutting the cornea to get to the lens, then why not do corneal corrective astigmatic surgery instead of using a toric lens?

Alcon Clareon monofocal IOLs. Did not expect this result, not sure how common these adverse outcomes are. Dr. Lee was not my surgeon.

I had cataract surgery last month. Much of what I experienced was similar to what was described in the video. However, I was not wearing eye patches after surgery, though I was asked if I rub my eyes. I was given eye shields to wear to bed at night and used them for 5 days. I then had a follow up visit a week after the surgery. I was offered 3 choices for the surgery. The basic one would have been fully covered by the provincial health care, but I went for the 2nd choice, which cost about $1000 more. The 3rd option, which included some laser work, was about $5000 more. My results are quite good, though it seems strange that I now need glasses to see close up, when I used to need them for distance. There's another video on KZbin from Zeiss that describes the actual surgery. While my ophthalmologist has a large clinic where they do some work, my surgery was done in a hospital and lasted about 45 minutes total, for both eyes.

I had my cataract surgery a week ago. I have glaucoma. I got slight fluid and swelling so on prednisolone and ketorolac drops but because of glaucoma have 8 drops of prednisolone and 4 of ketorolac a day. I did four days of antibiotic to avoid infection. When I have a break from prednisolone I can tell I’ll have good vision once this finally clears up but it’s still sooo blurry with these multiple drops. But my case is because of glaucoma. I had a xen stent done at the same time due to increased pressure and that went from 24 down to 10. Total surgery time is 45 minutes. I hope it stays down, I’m reading this length of time on prednisolone may increase pressure in a month to two months and I hope that doesn’t happen. I don’t need any more damage - I have vision loss from glaucoma. I had only a gauze patch. I did get bleeding pooling in the iris from the stent. I couldn’t find anyone who had this dual surgery done and left any comments. I’m happy to say I can see and look forward to clear vision soon.

Michele Lee, MD - QUESTION: I'm 78 this July 2023 and had laser surgery with a lens in 2016 years ago. They did not say there were any different lenses just gave me an ID card that says Acry Sof IQ Model SN60WF with UV Blue Light filter. I told them I wanted to be able to see distance clearly as I do a lot of photography. But now each eye sees two images. When I look at the moon, I see an additional image of the moon overlapping. I see two moons offset and overlapping each other like a fingernail effect. Right after the operation, the Dr said I had liquid under my eyes and did not want to decide or do anything until after it cleared, but this has never happened. What can I do?

I love the videos. Do you think maybe one day you can cover nodules and calcium deposits on the cornea? I currently have that going on in my right eye and will be having surgery about three weeks. This will be done by the cornea surgeon. I’m a little nervous, but I will get some propofol to make me very out of it, and not really care or know what’s happening. But as you mentioned a conscious sedation or IV sedation. You are in La La Land. The doctor will be talking to me, but I most likely won’t remember or be that much aware because I’ll be so comfortable and sleepy and that medication will help me in La La Land. And amnesia is pretty likely with IV sedation and it probably will seem as if time had flown by. Nodules. Scar tissue. And calcium deposits will all be removed and then they’ll take a little flap and then place that over or kind of pull it down a little bit to help. It heal smoothly after surgery. And so I will have numbing eyedrops along with that propofol IV sedation. Not totally get a little aesthetic but enough to make me very much in La La Land. Sleepy. And anxiety is completely illuminated once it takes effect. I’m hoping one day you’ll cover that condition and what to expect during that surgery. I look forward to seeing more videos.

I was going ow it hurts and the surgeon goes that is NOT hurting You. I was crying and I said yes it is. Then I felt a white hot pain that went thru my eye and thru my skull to the inside back of my skull. By then I was really crying and the anesthesiologist was there saying he was giving me more drugs.
