I had my first cataract removed last week...I was given concious sedation...I felt nothing, heard nothing, saw nothing and when I did at the end of the surgery I had no pain, no discomfort of any kind...I was amazed at how bright and white and clear everything was...thru my other eye things looked dingy and yellowed..I had no idea!!! I'm glad I didn't put off doing it...I get the other eye done in 6 weeks. If you're anxious or fearful, don't be. It's as easy as it gets..my only advice would be to make sure you've got a good eye surgeon.

I had cataract surgery this morning 4/17/2023 on my right eye, which also involved some laser machine at the beginning. From start to finish it was literally one of the most painful miserable experiences of my life. And I've gone through some painful surgeries before, but nothing like this. They CLAIM they gave me some medication to keep me calm and relaxed, but I if they did, it certainly didn't work, and I let them know that right at the beginning. They also claim they numbed by eye, but I felt every bit of it. I was in so much pain during the surgery they had two people holding down my arms and legs because I just could not lay still. I kept telling them how much it hurt, but it never got any better. I very much doubt I'll be having my left eye done. I can't imagine going through that again.

I had both cataracts replaced in 2015. Aged 58. Procedure undertaken by Bendigo Eye Surgeons, Victoria, Australia. I had worn contact lenses for 35 years. Very short sighted. Good eyesight restored immediately after surgery. I was able to watch tv in the recovery room minutes after leaving the operating room. There was a small gap between treatments, right eye first, left eye a week or so later. 7 years later. All still good. No need for glasses for golf, driving or reading text on my phone. Best present ever to myself. Mr/Dr Farokh Irani is, imo, brilliant. Thank you.

I just had my right eye done last week..lots of drops before, mild "twilight" sedation, awake for the 20 minute procedure. I suppose the only irritation I had, was the speculum, which holds your eye open. Even that wasnt too bad, they gave me some post-op numbing drops. The next day, was like night and day in clarity. Cant wait to do the left eye, as your depth perception is a bit off with one eyeglass lens out and one in....but totally worth it. Readers for PC work, but giving the eye time to heal before I determine strength needed.

I was scared witless for my first surgery. My BP was sky high and I had to have extra sedation. Anyway, the surgery was a piece of cake. I felt nothing. I was awake and remember the whole thing. When I had the second one done, I was not nervous at all. It takes a while to get used to the new sharply imaged colorful world. I couldn't stop looking at the leaves on trees because I could see each individual leaf. I also realized that traffic lights had many small individual bulbs and not one large one. I'm now taking the colorful world for granted again. I don't miss the old yellow-tinged world.

I had a macular hole surgery. And a byproduct is a cataract. I just had a cataract surgery last week. It’s not bad at all. But be ready for an eye drop extravaganza. In my case 2 weeks of 3 different eye drops four times a day. Then 2 weeks of one eye drop twice a day Guess my advice is don’t worry but be prepared for the eye drop regiment. The macular hole surgery was much more taxing than the cataract surgery. You’ll do fine. Don’t worry at all.

Just had one eye done so far, and the strangest thing I noticed is the nasty discoloration in the untreated eye ! It has, as I describe it, a yellowish Brown hue to it ! That colors everything with a dingy yellow tint ! The other eye, is clear and colors are bright ! It was almost mesmerizing when I first discovered the difference in eyes ! After a couple days I was opening and closing first one eye, and then the other ! When I was made aware of the difference between eyes ! I kept doing it, over and over, almost in disbelief ! And actually had a rather sobering moment, thinking my vision prior to the surgery, was this disgusting yellow tint ! I had no idea, as I guess the Cataracts grow so slowly, we don't notice it ! Very surreal ! Will be happy to get thru the Second surgery ! I might even buy some new Cool Sunglasses ! 👍😎

When I had my first eye done I became totally aware in the middle of surgery when my doctor had her instruments in my eye. The surgeon got very excited and told me it was imperative that I not move because her instruments were in my eye. It was very painful and when I started to swear the nurse's laughed and one said the other, "I guess we'll learn some new words today ladies". The Anesthesiologist asked the surgeon, "should I give her more?" Prior to surgery I told EVERYONE that I metabolize/flush anesthesia and no one believed me (even though I've had a broken back, knee reconstruction and breast reduction surgeries where it always happened). It was so traumatic that I could barely get the courage to do my 2nd eye.

A fine point. After the lens is implanted, vision WILL BE variable for about at least a month. Some days your vision will be ASTOUNDINGLY sharp. Some days not so much. That's normal. Especially if you're still using steroid drop after surgery. Steroids themselves have a way to affect you vision clarity. How long before things get stable? At LEAST 6 weeks. But more like 2-3 months.

I had cataract surgery last month. Much of what I experienced was similar to what was described in the video. However, I was not wearing eye patches after surgery, though I was asked if I rub my eyes. I was given eye shields to wear to bed at night and used them for 5 days. I then had a follow up visit a week after the surgery. I was offered 3 choices for the surgery. The basic one would have been fully covered by the provincial health care, but I went for the 2nd choice, which cost about $1000 more. The 3rd option, which included some laser work, was about $5000 more. My results are quite good, though it seems strange that I now need glasses to see close up, when I used to need them for distance. There's another video on KZbin from Zeiss that describes the actual surgery. While my ophthalmologist has a large clinic where they do some work, my surgery was done in a hospital and lasted about 45 minutes total, for both eyes.

I love the videos. Do you think maybe one day you can cover nodules and calcium deposits on the cornea? I currently have that going on in my right eye and will be having surgery about three weeks. This will be done by the cornea surgeon. I’m a little nervous, but I will get some propofol to make me very out of it, and not really care or know what’s happening. But as you mentioned a conscious sedation or IV sedation. You are in La La Land. The doctor will be talking to me, but I most likely won’t remember or be that much aware because I’ll be so comfortable and sleepy and that medication will help me in La La Land. And amnesia is pretty likely with IV sedation and it probably will seem as if time had flown by. Nodules. Scar tissue. And calcium deposits will all be removed and then they’ll take a little flap and then place that over or kind of pull it down a little bit to help. It heal smoothly after surgery. And so I will have numbing eyedrops along with that propofol IV sedation. Not totally get a little aesthetic but enough to make me very much in La La Land. Sleepy. And anxiety is completely illuminated once it takes effect. I’m hoping one day you’ll cover that condition and what to expect during that surgery. I look forward to seeing more videos.

Then I felt a white hot pain that went thru my eye and thru my skull to the inside back of my skull. By then I was really crying and the anesthesiologist was there saying he was giving me more drugs. I had my cataract surgery a week ago. I have glaucoma. I got slight fluid and swelling so on prednisolone and ketorolac drops but because of glaucoma have 8 drops of prednisolone and 4 of ketorolac a day. I did four days of antibiotic to avoid infection. When I have a break from prednisolone I can tell I’ll have good vision once this finally clears up but it’s still sooo blurry with these multiple drops. But my case is because of glaucoma. I had a xen stent done at the same time due to increased pressure and that went from 24 down to 10. Total surgery time is 45 minutes. I hope it stays down, I’m reading this length of time on prednisolone may increase pressure in a month to two months and I hope that doesn’t happen. I don’t need any more damage - I have vision loss from glaucoma. I had only a gauze patch. I did get bleeding pooling in the iris from the stent. I couldn’t find anyone who had this dual surgery done and left any comments. I’m happy to say I can see and look forward to clear vision soon.

Oh. My procedures were undertaken on local anaesthetic. No pain. No blood. Driving next day, well actually same day after second procedure, bit naughty. The surgeon had a small list for 2nd procedure so dealt with quickly. I arrived at 9am, left at 10 am. Only caveat, as a long time user of contact lenses I am not squeamish about touching my eyes. Not a sentiment I share for dentists 😮😢.

I had cataract surgery on my L eye and the result has been poor vision in that eye, very blurry, double vision at times, and hardly any periferal vision. The eye doctor tells me it is a scar and they will fix it with a lazer when they have me anesthtised to do my rt cataract. However, they also say the rt eye is not at all ready for surgery. So in the mean time I am stuck with this . Been 2 years now.

Any ideas or advice, I had the right eye done, Toric lens and the vision at distance in blurry maybe 20/25 and feels like something is off center in the eye. had the left eye done also Toric lens and the vision is excellent 20/15 and no weird feeling at all. Doctor has just said right eye is so close lets wait 5 months and see if it fixes itself. It has been almost 4 months and still the same. Should I just live with this, maybe this is all I can hope for, my left eye seems to be doing all the work.

Your eye will roll back if you're knocked out completely. You need to be conscious though mildly sedated so you can keep your eye steady and listen to and follow doctor instructions if you're not holding your eye steady. You'll be somewhat aware of what's going on, but you won't care. They do each eye separately in case you have a bad outcome in the first surgery so you have one good eye left.

Why do I have WHITE OUT vision after Cararact Surgery? Two days later, some things are revealing themselves in a Heavy Fog. What would cause white out? Blood in the eye you’d think would give a rose colored hue to vision. Any ideas? Thanks
@donnaheim1251
@donnaheim1251 Жыл бұрын
I had the distressing "white out" effect after my cat surgery 3 days ago, but color and focus are *slowly* returning. My surgeon says that eye is often dilated for 2 or 3 days after surgery, which distorts vision. Plus there's inflammation which may slow healing. I read that healing can take weeks - or even months - for some. In 1/3 of cases your surgeon may use YAG laser to clear vision quickly if a film has formed.

@@donnaheim1251How is it now? For me, after the fifths day, the wax paper view ended and it’s pretty good. I can drive comfortably. I was disappointed with my one week post op. Could only read the two lines that have three letters each. Then some distance Len correction gave me two-three extra lines. I have the Eyhance Distance lens. Whites and colors/contrast is amazing. I wish the focus was a bit better. Good luck. What will you choose for your second eye?

Hated the idea of this surgery and the first eye was wide awake and felt a sharp pain at the beginning. After saying “OW” loudly they did something but ended up a nervous wreck that it would happen again so just counted to 60 over and over waiting for it to be over. Dreaded the second eye but complained loudly to the Dr. And Anesthesia person. Went better but hated every second of it BUT now wear no glasses ever, no readers , nothing. Still would not want to do it again.

You’re videos are incredibly informative. I have a question. 32 hours after my cataract surgery, I feel asleep in my chair and when I woke up, I inadvertently rubbed both of my eyes, and immediately stopped once I realized I did it. I know there’s a risk for infection when that happens but so far, there are no issues. My questions are, when I rubbed it, is there a chance I maybe moved the new lens? And after 2 days, I’m still a bit blurry and see almost like a slight flash in the left side of my eye. Is that normal? Thank you so much Dr. Lee. 🙂
