What to Expect From the Winnipeg Jets at the Trade Deadline

The Winnipeg Jets have had a great year, and are one of the better teams in the NHL. Do they make a big splash at the trade deadline? Or do they only look to add depth?

Definitely a defensemen and any type of forward preferably a winger. This CANNOT be a weak deadline. They need upgrades here NOW and for playoffs YES. Jets are way too slow. We saw what happened to some of the top guys we needed. Chris Tanev big plans then didn't happen. Too slow same thing with Sean Walker today... To Avs. Genuinely concerned for if there will even be one soul worth getting for playoffs.

​@@agentshadow7456 Exactly. And outside of our top 3 prospects, nobody should be an untouchable. Chevy has a history of hanging onto prospects for way too long, instead of moving them to get a good asset. Even guys like Perfetti or Connor should not be protected. I like Fetts, but the team is trying to win now. And to do that, can't keep hoping that Perfetti will pan out by next year. If there's a big deal to be done, and the price includes Perfetti, it has to be done. Otherwise, all the stuff that Chevy told Helle and Scheifele about being all in to win was a bunch of BS.

@@pomerlain8924 I agree. Colby Barlow is a guy worth keeping to pick up if we need. Perfetti slumped when the entire team did but didn't do anything coming out of the slump. He is extremely skilled. Especially late December and for most of January. But now it's a concern. If we had to trade Perfetti especially right now fine... Why not. He cannot produce right now and he is not the speedy kind of player like Monahan and Ehlers or the full out loose cannon like Ehlers (Which is why I think Monahan and Ehlers is only gonna get better and better). Both are fast and Monahan can keep up with Ehlers loose cannon unlike Perfetti. Maybe if Perfetti was playing like he was late Dec-Middle Jan. But he is not and cannot make up for not playing well with them right now. All I know is Monahan can't be our only trade especially for playoff time.

They can't win with a D-pylon like Stanley.....they also need help on the wing.....otherwise we're likely one and done.

I feel like a defenceman like matt dumba would be a great fit! he’s an emotional player meaning if he’s on a team like arizona he’s not gonna grow as much doing that. using him in our organization however would possibly be a great move! he hits! he shoots! (on net btw which most of our defence CAN NOT do!) and he’s very positionally sound especially in his minnesota days. (competing for a stanley cup) he scored HUGE goals for minnesota in the playoffs and knows when to jump into the play a lot better then pionk and samberg can. schmidt can do it good he just stops doing it for consecutive games and that’s what hurts us! This said i feel an emotional electric right handed defenceman like dumba would fit the best with our lineup besides all these other defenceman on the trading block! he shoots right, knows how to throw the body, and has played in the playoffs for many years so he knows what it takes to win there.

And of course, Hanifin doesn't want to play in Canada, and who just traded for him, Vegas, of course. The Jets can definitely not sit back at the deadline and be only be content with Monahan. The other contenders are gearing up.

At some point the Jets need to step up and actually make a pitch for the Cup....Monaghan was only a start....too bad they couldn't have picked up Tanev who is exactly the type of warrior mentality player they need. Guys like KC seem to disappear in the playoffs and shine during the regular season. I'm hoping Iafallo steps up like he did when Vegas won their Cup. Boy could we use Bigg Buff right about now....imagine?!

Everyone keeps saying "the Jets made their move" with Monahan. Why do the Jets only have to make one move when some other teams are making three?

@@marksydor3108 I've noticed a lot of people think that because this team was first in the league at one point and has the best defense in the league, they don't need to make many moves. To those people, I say it does not matter how they've looked in the regular season. It's about contending for a cup. Even with all the winning, the holes are noticeable and simply adding Monahan doesn't fix everything. They need a rugged winger that plays physical, can win puck battles, and score. And they sorely need a right-shot d-man that can play on the second pair and can move the puck and provide offense. The past two games, with no Vilardi, the answer is to put Vlad Namestnikov on the first line and Iafallo on the second line. Could you imagine if this happened in the playoffs? I like Vlad, but no team is going to fear him on the top line. Or if a top 6 d-man goes down, and Logan Stanley is the guy that's put in the to replace them. Don't like those odds at all in a best of 7 game series.

All this hate towards pionk don't forget how well he is in the playoffs at fucking with people and spinning them out. I think he's gonna activate just fine in the playoffs. If we had one more move I'd prefer a mid line winger.

P has had his lazy times like others, but the team seems to be firing well now and I think it helps when everyone is giving their all at 100% effort….when you get some over paid lazy players it brings the others attitudes down but right now it just seems like they all want to go hard.

Yep. That's why it's annoying that anytime Ehlers shows inconsistency, he's demoted, but Connor's lackluster two-way play on a defensive-oriented team is excused. You have to be really bad defensively to be a minus on a top defensive team.

I would love to see Chevy get Alex Tuch from Buffalo, offering our 2024 2nd rd pick & Perfetti. Would also love to see an upgrade or two on the right side of our defence, Pionk and Schmidt are expensive pylons. Not sure how Chevy can move these guys but he's gotta do something to beef up that side. I wonder what a guy like Rasmus Andersson would cost to pry outta Calgary's roster, or Will Borgen from Seattle. Those are the only two glaring deficiencies I see on this roster and they can be addressed if Chevy has the stones to go all in this year.

Nyquist put him top 6 with Monahan/Ehlers. Probably need money out to make it happen. He has 53pts 63gp Not sure will cost alot maybe montreals 2nd + And depth dman like Tinordi I'd like provorov at 4.7m since flyers retained but won't happen.

with monohan and Ehlers we def need someone that can win board battles and score. Is tyler toffoli not a better fit. I havent seen a lot nyquist, we know Bones prefer balance. I dont know a lot about nyquist.

1st, 2nd, Pionk, Schmidt -> Top 2 d-man with ~2yr term on a rebuilding team Reason a team would do this: Pionk has a bounce back season, sell him as a rental next season Schmidt can mentor, good vibes. sell him as a rental next season potentially, a rebuilding team could end with: 1st, x3 2nd (within reason). this is a great return for a top 2 D-man lets be real. DeMelo and Dillon should be prioritized as resigns. Winnipeg needs to clear capspace at some point in the near future. its WIN now for the next few seasons. lots of FWD and D prospects in the pipeline that can be brough in in the next few years, they can afford a hole in their prospect pool in the name of keep good value contract. if well navigated, they have about 4yrs to contend here

Chris Tanev was traded for a 2024 2nd round draft pick and a prospect, Chevy had a 2nd round 2024 pick to use plus players to trade....Chevy dropped the ball again. This is why attendance is down because last year was the same with cap space and picks and players to trade but did not go all in. This years Jets motto is ALL IN. What a joke!

Chipman and Thompson are not passionate team owners who want a cup, they are businessmen who only care about money. They only want a mediocre team year after year that squeaks into the playoffs to try to appease fans. If they trade and risk future prospects to win now, then their future mediocrity is in jeopardy. The problem now is, the economy is in rough shape and casual "just happy to have a team" fans, don't want to buy season tickets or go to games any more. So all you have left is the diehard hockey fans. Piss the diehard fans off by not trying to win, and your attendance is going to drop.
