What to Expect on the Alcatraz Island Tour, from the Fogcutter Tours Family

The Alcatraz Island Tour is far and away the most popular ticketed attraction in San Francisco - more than 1.5 million people visit every year! It's a very fun experience with your family - you could even say IT ROCKS!
The first thing you will need for your Alcatraz Island ferry tour is a ticket. Those are available through Alcatraz City Cruises: (www.cityexperi.... This is the ONLY ferry company that offers service landing ON Alcatraz Island to go INSIDE the prison.*
Alcatraz Island tickets cost $45 for adults 12+ and $27 for kids 5-11. Kids under five go to Alcatraz for free!
The most common question I get on my tours: are there bathrooms on Alcatraz Island? Yes, there are! There are also bathrooms on the Alcatraz ferry and at the ferry dock.
You have to purchase a timed ferry ticket to go out to Alcatraz, but you can come back from the island on any returning ferry. These depart for San Francisco every half hour or so. Most folks take two-three hours for the whole experience. If you want to experience more than just the prison audio tour - like the gardens, the short hiking trails, or the Red Power exhibit in the former industries building - plan to take more time.
Unfortunately, there is no food for sale on the island and no eating allowed except right at the landing dock.
