Hi friends! I recently went on vacation and wanted to make a video about what it is like flying with a feeding tube and feeding tube formula.
I was so nervous going into this flight because i had no idea what to expect but now that i have gone through it i wanted to share what it was like and some tips so that you are ready for when you have to go on a flight with a feeding tube!
I hope you enjoyed the video and don't forget to give this video a like and a comment and to subscribe for new videos every Saturday! And as always, don't forget to spread kindness and joy!

TSA Cares is generally very helpful for the day of at airports. I always fill out a form with them when I book my flights to let them know how much formula and liquid I will be traveling with and several airports actually assign a single TSA agent to you the entire way through security. Less stress on everyone considering they aren't short someone who is supposed to be doing regular screening while doing the extended screening for us!

Travel with your formula/medical supplies in the separate carry on. If it doesn’t all fit, make sure to keep at least 2 days of supplies on you just in case they lose your other bag. Keep medications and tubes/bags/syringes all in the medical supply bag. Even if it’s overweight, it’s all together. Wrap formula in checked bags in a gallon Ziplock then bubble wrap. Getting to the hotel and realizing formula is all over everything because a bag got thrown or smooshed SUCKS.

This was an awesome video! It’s true, flying with a feeding tube and formula is such an ordeal if you don’t get TSA cares. I learned that the hard way. I also have a titanium port and they said they had to do a pat down. Ughh it sucked. Going through security with TSA pre-check was a dream even though it was a process.

That sounds stressful but yes tsa pre-check for the win!

I hope everything goes well with your placement! I know traveling and everything with this seems intimidating but once you get the first time over with you’ll see it’s not bad!!

Just an fyi tsa has always told me not to check medical supplies because the bag could be lost and they cannot guarantee the temperature so it could freeze or get too hot.

That’s good to know! The reason I checked it this time was because of the incident at the first airport but I will probably try to carry it on each time now!

This will be a great video for people travelling in the USA with a feeding tube. I’m in Canada and my trips were only in Canada. So I just have a lot of meds thus far. You had to keep all meds in their original bottles, have a doctors note and put everything in clear bags. My doctors note also included a passage about otc meds I needed as well. They went through my bag and swab my hands too. Oh wait, one time I had my white cane with me, that was a disaster, they acted like they had never seen a blind person before.

They definitely don’t have to check the canned formula but they do have to check pre made in your feed bag 🥰 my ex is EOD who use to train TSA. Also call 1800 cares! Saves your money and they are so sweet :) tell them your medical and traveling so they no ahead of time! They will usually open up a free line for you 🥰

Thank you so much for that. This video was great! My goal is to get down to FL this year to visit my best friend and I was anxious about flying with the feeding tube and supplies. This helped ease my worries. I’m glad it worked out. I’d be so mad if they opened the formula. That stuff is not cheap and only x amount of formula was/is packed. Did you pack any extra supplies and formula in the medical bag?

Do I need a doctors note to travel with more then 10l ml of liquids? Like nutricional formula ( that I drink)
@KennaKrueger
@KennaKrueger Жыл бұрын
Possibly?? But like I said in here I had a doctors note but never had to use it. So it’s up to your best judgement and you can always contact your airline as well to see what they say

Do i have a disability document that gives me, a fast security pass and early boarding because i am autistic , i am just afraid of traveling now because i need to eat like every 2 hours and all in liquid/ puree for. This summer i travelled with s lot of apple puree but it has packages of 90ml and they still inspected it
@arinabarron
@arinabarron Жыл бұрын
Yes, you will - but rarely do they actually check for it.
@theworkingnortherners7470
@theworkingnortherners7470 Жыл бұрын
@@rita.sotero so you wouldn’t be able to skip lines because of your autism. Sometimes there’s disability lines where typically it’s for people with medical devices, wheelchairs, service dogs, tubes/urine bags physically attached to you. For the pre boarding, because you don’t have any of the above, it would ultimately be up to the people at the gate. For the purée/ liquids you would have to ask the specific airline and if they say yes you’ll for sure need a doctors note explaining that since you wouldn’t have a visible (in their eyes) need for it
@rita.sotero
@rita.sotero Жыл бұрын
@@theworkingnortherners7470 yah this is not true. Because i have a sensory/ social disability I have early boarding, and I dont go true the normal security. And i know this because i have travelled before like this. My question was specifically with liquids because of gastroparesis (because fortunately I dont need a feeding tube!). But my disability documents are not updated with my chronic illnesses yet, but I have priority, parking, and other disability “benefits”. Waiting in line, and all the noise and confusion and touching of security, can send me really easily to a meltdown, so “skipping lines” is essential to autistic people (at least with my needs). And the airlines in europe also have assistance for this cases, i get an assistance from each airport and one from te airline (when in the airplane) that pick me up at the door of tue airport, until boarding the airplane, and all the way back, even if i have connections, because i cant be alone in the airport, i get too stressed, i get lost, and i end up in a overload. So to summarise, autistic and i am disabled because of it, so i have disability “benefits”. I was just asking how to do with new chronic illnesses. I am also on a list to get a service dog, for autism and anxiety primarily, and now added pots related tasks

I do wanna stress: The free medical bag is NOT a law required by airlines. Most airlines do offer that accomadation, but some do not. That is a company policy, NOT a right granted by any federal law. Check your airline beforehand!
