No hate but that is not the right thing to do. Almost like using her disadvantage for her own advantage? Doesn’t sound funny to me tho I can understand that this policy should reconsider people with disabilities but what she did is also not right. The moral of the story is gone. She’s like trying to make people laugh on her breaking the rules? And for her to try to trick people who pitied her? That is not funny if a normal people done it but now since a disability doing it, now it’s funny? Smart? Errr, that’s weird to me.

I was diagnosed with ADD (hypoactive, not hyperactive) when I was in 3rd grade, but none of my teachers believed anything was wrong with me, just that I didn't want to pay attention or do the work. Fortunately, my mom has the same condition (hyperactive, though, so we're opposites lol), so she understood me when it felt like no one else did. Dealing with the school system may not always work out, but I'm sure your daughter will grow to remember and appreciate how much you fought for her and what you did for her more than what the school didn't ♥️ We notice :)

@mollysministuff2 жыл бұрын
The story that Pam went through with suing her school system is like what happened with my sister. My sister, Emily, has ASD and her school couldn't handle behavioral fits that she had. When she was in 9, she couldn't read because no teacher could teach her without her having a tantrum because she would lash out when stressed or if she didn't understand something. She had been switched between special needs classes and mainstream classes in the district, but all had the same problem. One teacher in her mainstream class even made a presentation about "why Emily is different" to the whole class while she wasn't there and without our permission and because of this, she was bullied. On other occasions, she ran out of school once and the teachers had to tackle her because she almost ran into the street and one time she hid in a room in the school and the police had to be called because no one could find her. We pulled her out and my dad started doing home school learning with her and in only a year, she went from kindergarten reading skills to 3rd grade. However, the school refused to acknowledge this or take responsibility for their complete incompetence so we sued them and eventually, we won. My dad was able to teach her for a year with some compensation, and when that was done, we wanted to continue to home school her, but the district wouldn't allow it. So, they recently agreed to put her in a NPS school, where she is now at 13. She now loves to read and is at about her grade level in academics. There are still daily struggles she has, but we are just trying to do what we can to make her believe in herself. Right now, I think she is at that phase where she is having trouble finding that thing that makes her proud to be different and gets down on herself a lot, but she has recently started to find a passion in making stories and videos. I'm really proud of her even if she doesn't believe it right now. Oh, and yes, "I sued the school" is correct because the student's name is always first, so we would all laugh a little when the lawyer would say attorney for Emily or Emily (last name) vs (blank) School District. lol Thank you if you actually read this rant.

Thanks for sharing your story, you really sound a lot like my youngest daughter, her younger brother has Asperger's and ADHD and had a lot of problems in school and we went through the same thing that your sister went through. We were fortunate that we didn't have to choose a school but man we went through a lot of teachers a lot of Para's until we finally found the right fit for him and I'm happy to say you did graduate 6 years ago. But boy it was a struggle. And it sounds like you were a big advocate for your sister, which is why you remind me of my daughter and how she was a big advocate for her brother not only with the staff but with other students

So I'm a new subscriber to the channel and YT suggested I watch this. Her story about school not knowing how to include her broke my heart, but I felt joy knowing her boarding school cared and found a way for her to blossom. I felt that way about my move to a different school for junior high. I had been bullied in elementary and I had very low self esteem, but in a new school away from the bullies, I was able to be myself and I truly blossomed. I made amazing friends and felt full of confidence and happiness which endures to today. Pam is so encouraging. I'm really glad she shared her stories. What a strong and beautiful woman!

I love what she said about comedy being a conversation starter. I've been chronically ill for 6 years and my only way to deal with it is laughing about it. It annoys me immensely when someone tells me I shouldn't joke about my condition. It's my condition and I can make fun of it if I like. But apart from that, comedy and humour makes it easier to talk about my health, especially with people who are uncomfortable with talking about it. I think Pam has the perfect way of dealing with it. Start a conversation. P.S. Love you, Dr. Mike

I feel you so much about this. My comedy is so dark about it some times and even my doctors are like seriously. I’m like what do you want me to do cry, no not happening. Can I work ever again no, will I eventually end up in a wheelchair full time yes. Laughing really does help a ton!
@bodyofhope5 жыл бұрын
@@Cynararose from a 15 year survivor and long time wheelchair user, I know how scary it can be to think of the future when you have a rare progressive disease. Tbh, the chair is one of the least troubling issues to deal with, if that helps any. It's just another way to keep your independence, and you'll do anything to keep living your life. At this point I'm bedbound, and require professional assistance. It's pretty isolating and mostly extremely painful but as long as we continue to know without a doubt that we are intrinsically worthy and valuable, no matter what illness or pain our bodies do to us, no matter what doctors guesstimate our futures will be like, or how poorly ppl understand, disability doesn't negate your purpose or mine. We're equally as valuable as everyone else, and just as good as we were before we were disabled. I've had years where I couldn't speak, and used my phone or computer to blog, created support groups, to be an advocate for others. When I had to stop painting due to mobility and pain, I taught myself digital art and make awareness images to post rare disease campaigns online. We definitely have to dig a lot deeper to find the good or to make the good happen for ourselves but it can be done. I hope you're living your best life possible. You deserve it. Blessings ✌💪♿🎗💛

15:22 For the people not understanding what she means, people will see someone be put in a wheelchair and not only them but their families as well, will learn to adapt. Some people get cars that are specialized for people with a walking disability. They believe that they are an inspiration because of the fact that they are disabled (reference the pity part Pam explained). But the real reason people should feel inspired is because of how they managed to deal with it. For example, Helen Keller is blind and deaf. People look at her as an inspiration, not because of her disabilities, but for the fact that she wrote books and was able to deal with what she was given.

First, I would like to thank Dr. Mike for bringing in another person to take about their journey in life. Pamela, it's a pleasure meeting you. Thank you for speaking my mind...couldn’t have worded it any other way. Second, I wish I could live in a world where we don't call people disabled but rather acknowledge that they’re different and treat them as yet any other person but plainly with a different way of interacting. All individuals in life require different methods of interaction...no need to distinguish between a ”normal” person and an ”abnormal” person.

I am 4'7 and I don't relate with that, but I also do it depends on the situation I guess. Like when I was younger I would go into my dogs dog house with him and read a book and it was pretty cramped, litterly my dog was either on my feet or I had one foot on him and the other he was laying on, but say I am put in a crowd of people. I will not be able to stay in that crowd without having a problem. Litterly I was shopping and 3 people where behind me looking at the rack opposite to the one I was looking at I tensed up, walked to my cousins and they where like what's wrong and I was like people popped my personal bubble, I was having breathing problems because it felt like my chest was being crushed, my mom believes I have anxiety like her but I don't know and I want diagnosed with it so I can't claim to have it. Also I sleep in a super small place I have a twin size bed a small area between the wall and the bed maybe a foot at most and 3 walls and a door. So it just depends on the situation for me.

My daughter has ADHD and I have asked her about her challenges and it’s helpful for us both. For a long time she felt down about herself or that because she struggles with school she feels like she’s not “bright”. I tell her that we all have struggles with something in life but that she has a great way of looking at the world and that she really thinks outside the box; she is wired in a different way but that’s what a great thing about her. She has many wonderful qualities and talents and those things are going to serve her well in the future. Sadly we expect “cookie cutter” results in education which only serves to frustrate people or diminish them, as Pam’s early school experience demonstrates. Sorry for the lengthy post.
