Egmont was my first duty station out of basic training. There were four of us in two two man duty sections working one week one and one week off. Transport was provided by CG helicopter. June 74-February 75. Good times. Now I volunteer through Egmont Key Alliance.

I grew up near here in the ‘50s and ‘60s and visited the island a few times. I remember the harbor pilots gave us lunch one time! I also remember their big radio.

when I was station at Sector Saint Pete in the USCG ATON unit we replaced the light on the lighthouse via helicopter, it was awesome. I think it was early 2000's

Please remember Egmont Key is a national wildlife refuge set aside for beach nesting birds that nest in colonies each summer. The northern portion of the island is open to the public, the southern portion (including the beaches) are closed year round. Pets are not allowed on the island. Thank you for the nice video.

Egmont is super crowded on the weekends during the summer. as bad if not worse than the public beaches due to all the boats playing loud music. IDK wtf people do that for, stay home if you want to listen to music. if you are looking for seclusion in the bay area, you will not find it. Every desirable spot has 20-100 idiots on it. Good luck.
