Very informative. It is good to know the cons as well as the pros.

Where I lived in the Philippines, I would only consistently find them at a certain golf course and they were so tough to catch since they were mostly high up in trees

I would love to see these guys in the wild! Did you ever come across any that were naturally ok with you being there and not skittish?

Loved this!!! I just got my first two emerald tree skinks from a reptile show recently. I am SO IN LOVE already! I did find out, unfortunately after I bought them, that they are wild-caught. they seem to be in fine health but is there anything I should look out for in terms of parasites/health issues?
@Zettysreptiles25 күн бұрын
Congrats on your new babies! Absolutely! You should monitor them closely. Parasites are a concern for sure. If there’s any sign of lethargy or weight loss- a vet trip quick is needed for treatment. It can go south very quickly. Of course, I’m not trying to scare you, rather stressing the importance of noticing symptoms quickly. I started with some WC myself years ago and most were perfectly fine! Had a couple with some issues that needed tending, but overall nothing too serious.

@@Zettysreptiles Thank you for the advice! Super helpful! I will definitely watch out for this. Is there any way to proactively treat them for parasites?
@Zettysreptiles24 күн бұрын
@@cupofjae I wouldn’t recommend treating unless treatment is needed. They may have already been treated depending on where they came from. Some businesses will treat them after import, some won’t. I’d see if you can find that out first. Reach out to the seller. If they didn’t- you can take a fecal to your vet and have it tested for parasites. That would even be the best thing to do regardless of prior treatment. Call your vet and ask them about a fecal exam for parasites. They should be able to help you out.

@@Zettysreptiles thank you SO much! I reached out to the vendor and he said he treated them with panacur! So I’ll just be vigilant about health checks from here on out. Thank you SO MUCH for your help!!!

@@cupofjae perfect! Anytime! Just be diligent to wash hands before and after handling them (and in between handling any other reptiles you have) as a preventative measure. Aside from that, sounds like they should be good to go! Best of luck!!

Great channel but you need to work on your volume control! Maybe have a second person filling and using the wireless mics so that your dialogue is clear and precise.

Yo great video!!! I have a beautiful custom tank that I would love to home a community of emerald tree skinks but I would love your opinion on if it would be big enough? The inside dimensions of the tank is 4FT Long, 4.5ft tall, 16in wide. I know the width is about 2-3 inches shorter than a standard large exo Terra or zoo med but it has a naturalistic foam background on all sides that extends from the walls a bit.
@Zettysreptiles7 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I would think that’s great for a small colony of 3-5. Although they do literally use every inch, they do spend the majority of their time under the basking light, so just be sure there is plenty of places for them to rest (together) under the basking. They like to all lay on top of each other, so I put a cork bark ledge when I did the foam background. The extra 1/2’ will certainly compensate for the 2-3” in length. Just use every bit of the tank you can (putting vines all the way up to the top.

Do you think a 48 x18x21 would be an ok enclosure size for them. I know I’m missing those last 15 inches as they went into the length that’s currently the enclosure size I have as it was for another reptile I had but he passed away from old age. Or should I look for another tropical reptile? I’m re-doing the enclosure and already cleaned it out I know I want a social reptile that’s for tropical climates and would be social the emerald tree skinks looked like a good fit
@Zettysreptiles4 ай бұрын
Hey! I’m assuming it’s a 48 long x 21 high? 21 high would be a bit difficult considering you’ll have 2-3” of drainage and 4” of sub so you are really looking at 14” of vertical space. You could do a colony of babies for sure- but would likely want to go 36” high as they get to yearlings.

@@Zettysreptiles hmm, alright, well good to know I guess I’ll see if there are any other reptiles that might be better suited for the enclosure that I can get are there any recommendations for social lizards that do well in tropical enclosures? If not no worries I’ll do more research I’m just getting the enclosure set up still so it’s not just a massive tank in my room that’s bare. I’m not in any hurry . I appreciate your prompt reply to my comment I honestly didn’t anticipate such a fast one 🤣

@Zettysreptiles6 ай бұрын
Are emerald tree skinks venomous? No- not at all. Gila Monsters and beaded lizards are the only known venomous lizards… well.. and bearded dragons believe it or not. Their venom, however, is not harmful to humans.
