Gald to hear a first hand report on CPVC. I am in Atlanta area and our area the copper pipes are falling after about 30-40 year due to the water. Half the plumbers that have come in had been spit Pex-A vs. Pex-B, one did say they would use CPVC, btu soe many plumbers and articles and videos complain about how CVPC get brittle sna breaks prematurely.

Paulturner5233 Copper is not superior product. It depends on the water source. The only leak I ever had was from copper pipe itself not a connection. Water ate through it. CPVC for 26 years now no issues

PVC was banned, for hot and cold water pipes, in Illinois in 2004......CPVC and PEX, along with copper, are approved for new construction. PVC is allowed for drains. My house is 50 years old.....All copper water lines (never a leak) All drain (and sewer) lines that go underground are cast iron.

Hot water pipe is starting to fail under my house, small fractures in the pipes only on the hot water pipes. cold water pipes are just fine. Luckily I had some pex line in my shed that I forgot all about so all I need is sharkbite fittings.

@@southernhometalk2465 PVC sch 40 and it's also exposed to the elements outside because I haven't hung any skirting yet on my cabin.

Hot water should not run through PVC pipe and all plastic plumbing should be completely insulated to protect from UV Light. I have found CPVC, which is used for hot water can become brittle over time and fail as a result. I have also read articles where some manufacturers have shortened the warranty to 10 years on CPVC. @@robertfarquhar2780

@@southernhometalk2465 Yeah I used pvc because I already had so much of it before I built my house. I knew eventually it would cause problems but this weekend I will create a more permanent solution.

SharkBite fittings will certainly work, howerver its questionable about how long they will last, since they depend on a rubber O-Ring to prevent leaks. But sometimes its best to take the path of least resistance by using them.

Excellent info. Is there any advantage to putting insulation on cpvc hot water pipes?
@southernhometalk24652 жыл бұрын
I believe its good to insulate all pipes. Insulating the hot water side, which may help with energy efficiency.

Imo copper is superior.. pvc is excellent and supper easy for drains.. however cpvc for water supply is what I question.. it is very easy to apply but alot of reviews say it gets brittle after awhile and fail.. Im not certain on that just what I've read
@billkallas1762 Жыл бұрын
I've read that it's only supplied with a 10 year warranty, on new construction.

CPVC is a disaster waiting to happen. It turns into a brittle mess. It's fine when it's new. Copper or PEX. PVC can't be used in most states for plumbing, only CPVC and it's crap.
