Poland doesn’t have a presidential system, it has a parliamentary system with a mostly ceremonial President (little hard power- a weak veto and also having legislative initiative) So there is obviously no sense in that. There is no ‘human rights record’ problem other than abortion restrictions, which were just worsened in 2020 compared to what they were before; Otherwise relaly nothing new mostly, almost nothing Who the hell has criticised (even in PO/KO circles!) Duda for ‘running twice’? He ran for election and then for reelection, after the COVID election was cancelled, being unable to go through. Nobody thought the actual problem was him running, they just had specific potlcial disagreements. There’s a decent bit of dishonest rules lawyering in Polish potlcial, but this is exceeds literally I’ve ever seen

There is no such thing as a "Duda government" - Poland is not a presidential system, it's a parliamentary one, meaning the presidential is a largely ceremonial position. The actually important role is the Prime Minister (like in the UK), and the current Polish PM is not "anti-gay" or whatever. He's a pro-EU, mainstream centrist, in a coalition with centre rightists and (not that centre) leftists. . The entire world expects Trump to win the next presidential election. And even if he doesn't, Poland has the (minor) advantage of having a government that's more "Democrat aligned", while having a President who's more "Republican aligned". It would be silly for them not to put their internal differences aside (at least to some extent) and try and play both sides when it comes to maintaining relations with *the* country they consider to be the sole guarantor of their immediate military security in the face of a far larger (though admittedly poorer), nuclear armed, and consistently aggressive neighbor.
