I have a quick question more Profession based. Would you say taking the route of becoming a chemist (by degree) is worth it even if you only ever plan to work for yourself? This is the thing I have been struggling with for a while. If a degree is chemistry is worth it if I never plan to work in a more corporate lab setting.

From my experience, I had been a self taught formulator for over a decade before joining the Formula Botanica program. I didn't learn many new concepts from FB and desired more knowledge. I got accepted into a graduate Cosmetic Science program and I swear....during every course lecture, my mind is 🤯 ...in a good way 😊. You really get an understanding of how ingredients interact with skin/hair and with each other at the molecular level. It also helps you optimize the use of raw materials...for example, there is a minimal amount of surfactant needed for micellation to occur in different environments. There would be cost savings from using only the amount of raw materials that is necessary to provide the function or benefit. I'm just one data point but am formally educated and am only interested in formulating for my company. Alternatively.... it's your company....hire a chemist for consultation (I know there are some on upwork.com) 😊. I hope this provides some insight.
