Let's talk about Yurcich and Franklin's history with OC's (hint.. he's only had 1 successful in his tenure and he left as quickly as he could), What about Yurcich prior to Penn State.. was he an aggressive play caller? Over Yurcich's six years at Oklahoma State, the program ranked fifth nationally in passing yards per game (315.9), 11th in touchdown passes (179), seventh in total yards per game (478.6) and sixth in scoring (38.0 ppg)

Moorhead was offered a HC job at MSU and took Tommy Stevens with him. Ricky Rahne did well enough to get a HC job at Old Dominion. They didn't quit to work at Burger King. Donovan's scheme from Vanderbilt wasn't working so he got fired. Ciarrocca got fired for doing about what Yurchich is doing now. As for Yurchich, I actually asked the Oklahoma State fan base what they thought of him on a pretty active Cowboy Facebook fan page. They universally hated him -- ranked him the second worst they've seen in the Mike Gundy era. Keep in mind that Bundy was burning through OCa because his offenses were putting up big numbers, so he called up Yurchich from Shippensburg of all places because he knew he'd stick around for a $400K job. He never really impressed when he was given more control and sort of took a demotion to be a QB coach at Ohio State. After a year of that, he got scooped as part of a short-lived coaching change at Texas. Then he got thrown out along with the HC. So, those Oklahoma State numbers were both a while ago and need some context. Franklin gave Yurchich a shot and has stuck with him even though the red flags of stagnation and dysfunction have been popping up all over the place. Yurchich has made millions of dollars doing this and the bottom line is that he's mediocre at best and gets completely out classes when facing opposing DCs from the likes of Ohio State and Michigan, who have NFL-level talent on the sidelines. Yurcich simply cannot compete with them at this stage of his career and maybe never.

As a Michigan fan, I understand completely. I think people have to understand building a program takes time . I get it, we all want to win now, but let’s be realistic, it’s very rare and nearly impossible to do so. Changing the coach does not mean immediate success, in fact it resets the clock, because each coach has his own way of doing things. I don’t really know you guys coach, but it’s not all his fault either. Every coach spends hours drawing up the game plan, but the players have to go out an execute the plan. Players have to go out and make plays. Will there be miscues, sure that’s why you practice, so that timing is not an issue. I’m sure those players did and will be talking about what they personally have to do to get better and back to work they go. Guys keep your heads up and keep grinding, that’s what it’s all about. Future success is coming.

Commenting 8 months later, it's clear with time and distance from last season that the fundamental problems of PSU from the last 10 years remain. Overhyped expectations, a head coach who will never get PSU fans the championship they desire, and a team that isn't nearly as good as we were told To answer your big question, Allar is struggling because PSU didn't have good receivers, and the interior of the o-line was terrible. Something you guys should have pointed out during last season. Not letting Allar off the hook, he needs to get a lot better in pressure situations, but the line just wasn't as good as advertised. As we close in on 2024 going into year 11 of the James Franklin experiment, a rational person should expect a minimum two losses, and glamor bowl, and sneaking suspicion that PSU is locked into an infinite loop of being a good team, but never able to reach beyond that, and certainly will never win a national championship. My request for LONL is to be brutally honest about the team. Please don't hype a team that doesn't deserve it.

Yurcich needs to stop getting handed credit for the 30+ point games earlier in the season. It was evident during a number of those games that the offense was inept and a total shambles. It was problematic that they managed to score 30+ points so often, because that either numbed or blinded people to the fact that the offense was never able to consistently drive the field. The 30+ point games were largely the product of the defense/special teams frequently handing the offense good field position. Any time Penn State had to drive any significant distance, it was a shit show. Yes, there were a couple of exceptions against weak opponents, but no one with half a brain is going argue that those games were any true indication of what kind of offense we had.

Honestly, if analytics say to go for 2 in the first half, that is a genuinely excellent argument for the limitations of analytics. Use common fucking sense. Why in the absolute fuck would you put yourself in a position to potentially HAVE TO go for two later in the game - which is exactly what the situation ended up becoming when Michigan went ahead 17-9. Those decisions were so fucking BIZARRE that i couldnt even pull myself out of my confusion long enough to get angry. Indefensible.

HARD to complain about risky calls - when PSU converts TWO 4th downs to score its TD. Losses to TWO top 3 teams means you’re still top 5 - I blame B1G schedulers putting top 3 schools in East. AL / GA only play in SEC Champ. GA gets East Walkover - like CL - now FSU getting the ACC walkover. Pollsters putting Louisville or OM ahead of PSU will be crazy. But B1G did that. Watch IA a team PSU clubbed 31-0 be closer to PSU than PSU to MI/OSU. Insanity.

@markmajkowski9545 Жыл бұрын
@@philb.1502 PSU will likely be FAVORED in NY 6 unless it plays GA/AL maybe OR/TX. That’s pretty high cotton. And by 7 over Louisville which will probably somehow (prejudiciously) be ranked ahead of PSU this week. Rose Bowl Champ - beats BTB PAC Champ - and people like you think they are terrible. We shall see how Franklin “failures” compare when it doesn’t draw TWO teams in top 3. And by TWINKIE does that mean Pitt which clobbered soon to be top 10 Louisville by three scores or UCF embarrassing ranked OkSU 45-3. No Twinkies. Just very few OSU GA AL. What Franklin has done with PSU astonishing from where it was. Certainly superior coaching to Sweeney without NFL top 10 QB. Funny how elite QB’s - Plunkett Elway Luck - come to mind as difference makers. Burrow Newton even Jackson Bridgewater as what “elevates”. Franklin multiple playoff berths if it had followed BC into ACC - instead - relevant comparison seems NE - and in West PSU likely 50/50 to Indy or better. We shall see where PSU “lands” but thinking it’s top 3 just not reasonable. Penix to PSU and Franklin probably gets OSU last year or better.

Quit putting it on the offensive coordinator for PSU I actually put it on James Franklin. His going for it on 4th down at the end of the game was utterly ridiculous.
