For the most part, people ask if you are a cpa because typical clients think nothing else exists when it comes to credentialed tax professionals. The average person knows what a cpa is, the average person has no clue what an EA is.

Let me also add that, I don't get that question often at all unless I'm dealing with a new client that is super anal about that sort of stuff and will just straight up ask. Then I explain to them what my credentials are.

I get the question all the time upfront because banks, etc automatically tell clients that they will NEED a CPA. Not an Accountant. SO then I have to sell myself.
