Working at Moss Adams where I do 150+returns a year I still don't know everything. You do need to know most of your GAAP Accounting though. So you can identify tax issues such as temporary differences from book to tax. Don't be afraid to do large business returns, you can do it. Compare last year's return to the one you're working on. Clarify with the client any questions. Reach out to peers. I will hopefully go out on my own soon.

With business returns you should have a support excel spreadsheet for 199A QBI, SALT, SOS business status, Income rec sheet, K-2/K-3 client questionaire, and if applicable Fixed Assets excel spreadsheet. You should also check client Trial Balance they provide you for any issues. such as accruals, Retained Earnings roll over, changes in accounts that might indicate a purchase of new assets just to name a few. You should build your own easy to import into your tax software a Final TB. Accounting is very important for business returns. So, you should charge a min $900 or more but for myself I would charge a min of $2,000 and go up from there. I currently work for a mid tier accounting firm as Experienced Tax Staff and these are the things I see above. You should also tie out your spreadsheets to the return for final checks.

You should charge no less than $350 for a simple 1040 and $1000 for a hard 1040. Also, your business returns (1120,1120S,1065) you should charge no less than $840 for a simple business return and $1600 for a moderate to hard business return.
