Thank you very much, your conversations are very much motivating for me to spend more time stargazing. And what you say about Mars is great, so my expectations are now set for patience while observing.

I started my observations of Mars back in mid February 2022 back when it was raising 45 minutes before the sun incredible to see how it's grown in the eyepiece

the jeweled handle, a sight that captivated me as a 9 year old with my dads old binoculars, it was stunning!

A gray start today but warm ,17c, and a heavy shower followed by a beautiful 1/4 Moon today.Hearing of the Lake of Autumn was very seasonal and I must confess I'd never heard of it before.M33 is possible naked eye and I have had it in wide field 2x40 binoculars and got the core even in my 5x10 Zeiss Mini Quick monocular but it was from a Bortle 3 area.

So I just got back into viewing the solar system with my sons telescope. I got him to come out and see Mars Jupiter and Saturn last night. Wow what a time to come back. Seeing Mars triggered me to show my son. Than I noticed Jupiter. So I went online to find out that last night was the best night in many years to see the solar system. I feel a bit lost though because my sons telescope couldn’t focus well enough to day for sure I was looking at what I intended. Does Mars look like a red star? Same as Jupiter has a more of a white spot on a cheap scope

Mate, they are just tiny microscopic dots of light unless you have expensive equipment. They all look the same to me.

Why is the magnitude index reversed? As in, the lower the number, the brighter.

Hi Alan, this is the standard way astronomers define brightness or magnitude. More here! www.skyatnightmagazine.com/space-science/stellar-magnitudes-how-measure-star-brightness/

The more negative the number the brighter the object

I hope you can answer this question. It seems like my apps (Starry Night, SkySafari) say that Neptune is above Jupiter in the sky, but here you show it as lower. What's the deal with it?
