Aren’t they just?! There’s 5 in total but the other two were snuggled up with mummy. She’s been spayed now. We rehomed a spayed young feral.. turns out she wasn’t spayed after all. Had no idea until she presented us with the kittens a couple of weeks ago . Lovely surprise. They’ll all be trapped and spayed in due course too. ❤️

​@@TheFarmyardGarden the perfect plan. Get the kittens neutered as soon as your vet will do it. I was lucky with my wee Felix when he just appeared in my hedge, that he was a boy and I could keep him in the house and he only went out on a harness and (extending!l lead until he was 6 months old. That was only just early enough, others with female cats have been caught out! The vets here won't do it sooner, even though in the USA, they've found no bad effects from doing it even at 8 weeks. Enjoy your furry friends!

Great update clare. Yeah the babyboos cross pollinate alot. The polarbear may have gone yellow due to lack of light...however it's usually because it's been harvested too late. They turn so quickly! Lovely to see you harvesting so much. Thanks for the mention! Danny 🌱

Yeah, I assume they did before the seed was saved, which would make those potential on inedible. I was waiting for the stem to truly brown off, but maybe they don’t go as brown and woody as I expected. Hopefully they’ll still be ok. I have been so excited to realise how many things are still yet to harvest. Excited for a variety of peas I’m ordering for next year, called Terrain. They grow into November for a super late crop. Pea season was a blessed time in the garden. The Grow Up! Dinner came in handy didn’t it? Thank you 😍

Thanks Joe. I actually love the soups I’ve been making lately. Parsnip soup sounds especially yummy! I’ve stuck the Hamburg Root Berlinger on my seed order for next year. It’s a root parsley and supposed to lovely to eat alongside parsnips etc roasted. Have you tried it? We all get such a buzz from our harvests. It’s why I want to extend my growing season as long as I can. Keeps me out of trouble 😂❤️❤️

Nope not tried the Hamberg Root Berlinger, do love my roasted veg though so might have to check it out, sounds and looks interesting! I must say I do regret not getting spinach sown this year and that provided such a good crop over winter last year but not to worry, I have kale 😂. Soon all be starting again, was only thinking about plans for when to start the onions off earlier lol. Going to enjoy the relative break in the meantime but the itch to sow will soon start 😂. What a beautiful pumpkin display! Great video, you seem very organized with a plan. That is inspiring. And it's great that you still have so much you can grow over winter. I've had the final harvest of lovage, parsley and so-called perennial welsh (Norwegian) onions today, and lots of green tomatoes in my kitchen. Trying garlic in a pot again even though I had zero success last time. Packing things away and getting ready for winter, it's frosty, but I think no hard frost for another month.

Thank you Trude. I have a plan in my mind but I generally struggle to stick with plans and often go rogue 😂😅 I’m so pleased with what’s still in the ground and what’s started. I’m a little held back with the polytunnel still full of tomatoes, but in another couple of weeks I’m sure they’ll all be gone. I’m not sure how many green tomatoes I’ll keep though. My freezer is already full. Need a day for canning them. I’m going to pick a bed which stayed drier over winter for my garlic this time, but hoping for a good crop nonetheless. Hope yours do better this time 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 It’s must be so much harder for you, with having harsher winters than we get here. We generally only get light frosts before Christmas. January (and early February )are typical the coldest months

I think my main onions will probably stay inside until spring too. Just the spring onions I’ll pop on the poltytunnel. They grew well in their last winter. I have a huge box of bulbs. All I do is using potting compost and play sand mixed. It’s nothing special. I really need to thin them better. I’m so pleased with the winter squash harvest. I didn’t want too many, as no idea if I even like them yet. Might try one tomorrow 😅😅 I love the growing too. Keeps me off Amazon when I get bored 😂😅 Thanks Linda. Have a lovely week too x

Hi Claire! I love your joy in your veg. Sprouts looking great. My neighbour has some AMAZING looking ones, deep deep green and already big. I must ask her what kind. Looking at your purple sprouting broccoli, I think one plant that I thought was a Romanesco is actually a PSB, just now getting wee sprouts and the plant and wee leaves looks just like yours. I have also already taken a few parsnips, not as long as yours, but fatter :-). I keep eyeing the celeriac... Will definitely grow more next year. And the Jerusalem Artichokes! I did 4 kinds of carrots, rainbow, chantenay and Rote Riesen (Red Giant) are doing well, the Nantaise are being slow. I've had very little luck with radishes, but will try some in the poly ... crub? I heard another lady call hers that. Polycarbonate greenhouse. I've gambled (successfully) with 2 frosts now, but next week 2 nights in a row forecast...hmmmm. Only one Crown Prince left out... And some tomatoes and my runner beans. I found out that scarlet runners were originally native to the mountains of South America, so they ARE more cold tolerant than other beans. I won't get any dry, but I took the big pods before the yesterday morning's frost. The stuff in the "punnel" will probably be fine still. I took all the cracked green toms to make soup and relish, so if I do decide to pull the rest, they will probably ripen in the house. The green ones so far were all at least a little red or yellow inside. I'm dying to get my winter crops in in there. Got Chinese leaf and chard and winter peas already, but lettuce etc not yet big enough to transplant. I've got winter peas, one lot of garlic (mix of my own, from local organic growers from the farmers market, and some big organic stuff from the supermarket). I have asia salad already going well and lamb's lettuce and spinach planted outside last weekend and this weekend. Lovely pumpkin haul, looks great! I love your videos, sorry for rambling on! Your enthusiasm is infectious!

Oh Kirsty, ramble away.. I love a good natter! ❤️ I would love to know the variety of sprouts too. I have ordered a variety called Ruby Crunch for next year. Lovely red sprouts that retain their colour when cooked. Yummy! I’ve only ever had sprouts boiled (at home when younger), so I’m keen to try all the different ways I’ve seen them prepared in vlogs last winter. We had another hard frost last night here and I’ve noticed the butter bushes and marrow have really been caught by it. Their leaves are going black now. Such a shame. We’re not even at our first (official) frost date yet. Eeep! I hope yours are ok. Have you seen the pink Crown Prince? I think I’d like to grow that next year. Not sure why they didn’t name it Crown Princess. Good to know the Scarlet runners can tolerate the cold a bit more. They’re still flowering quite happily. I’ve ordered a variety of peas called Terrain for next year as they’re supposed to crop right in to late autumn. Like the sound of those for a later succession. I have quite a few tomatoes still turning. It’s still getting up to almost 30° in the polytunnel with some sun in the day, but I do think I’m going to need to check out some green chutney recipes soon. I think Polycrub is a brand name, (I’d love one of these.. so fancy, Gaz Oakley has one) I know exactly what you mean. I would imagine they’re warmer than a normal polytunnel like mine. I get such a buzz from harvesting.. it’s another reason why I want to extend my growing season as long as possible ❤️❤️❤️

Think they come from Latvia (but the replacement panels came from the UK. Confusing!) I've not seen the pink crown Prince. definitely should have been Crown Princess! Autumn peas sound great. Then I could have peas all year round!

Great video. That parsnip was really impressive! I have some carrots growing but I have had no success in the past. I think I have only ever pulled 1 decent carrot. I would be happy to pull baby carrots but whenever I try they are pale and tasteless. Not sure if different varieties are better. I love oca. Best roasted with a roast meal. Our favourite!

My favourite are chantenay and the purple sun. The latter stay purple even after cooling. I only grow in sieved compost and play sand. No additional fertiliser.

Some great brassicas and squash there Clare! Bit nippy today isn't it?! We've been and got some manure and compost today after being messed about by Amazon. Cardboarded our tomato and sandpit beds and topped them up. A bit jealous of your broccoli starts. Only 3 Tundra cabbages are ready for the 15 spots are up to size enough to plant out as of yet. I am hoping the broccoli and other cabbages will pick up a bit and aren't too late to plant out when ready. I love seeing what other people are growing and how they turn out. There are so many varieties out there. The one i was hoping to be the main one was Durham Early cabbage. The broccoli is Rudolph Extra Early Sprouting. Also trying to grow Red Drumhead cabbage. They are apparently meant to be only 75 days and was hoping for 2 crops in time for Christmas but if i get any for Christmas then i will be happy. As for the sprouts, i think i need to remind them that they are sprouts! lol TBF, there were rat tunnels at the end of the garden where they are earlier this year, just after planting them out. Will see though. There are a couple of pea sized nubs about 6 inches up the plant. Again for Christmas. I have just ordered some fungus gnats nematodes for the indoor plants. Now i am back to baking soil, i really want to get the issue sorted over winter. There were so many in the compost bag we bought today! If they work indoors, i might buy some for the beds next year. That and some for slugs and snails! Aww cute kittens! Are they from your cat? If you are interested, my sister gave me some giant pumpkin seeds. We don't have space to grow them in our garden and i think also Helen mentioned she might want to grow them next year. Not sure how many seeds there are but could split them between you two if either of you are interested? I can take a photo of them and mention you both with my email address on a community post? Thanks so much. I was pleased with the harvest. The cabbage in the greenhouse is Durham Early and it’s an early sprouting broccoli in there too. Sorry to hear your sprouts haven’t been performing as well as you hoped. Fingers crossed they have a late surge for Christmas dinner! I’ve not got a fungus gnat issue in the house. I try to keep my pots topped with some vermiculite as it seems to stop them getting in. They’re so annoying aren’t they? Slug eggs. Yuck! I’m worried there will be issues for brassicas in the tunnel this winter with slugs. 😅😅 I’ll have to set up a PO Box for seed swapping soon. A few people have asked. I can’t keep asking the post office to keep post for me. Duncan won’t allow me to give out our actual address, sorry x

@TheFarmyardGarden Ah cool will be great to have a grow along. I think we have the same amount of Kuri Squash when we combine our two little ones. We don't usually have a problem with gnats as i usually bake the soil but early this year i was watching a Yt'er who said you don't need to bake them and just pour boiling water in it. Looking back i think it may be because where they live in the US is a lot less humid then here. I use vermiculite and make homemade vinegar for traps but the humidity this year and over winter has been crazy! At least it beats having red spider mites from when it is so hot and dry! Yes they are very annoying. I have sticky traps but was watching Sheffield Made plants and he recommended one of his videos on it. I heard Jessie (plot 37) talk about nematodes before and also JB. We have several years with no major issue with slugs and snails. I think they have been assembling their armies this year! I think i might breed a few leopard slugs to get the other chocolate ones and snails and then get the nematodes in. Do you have any plans for them in the poly? Not sure on your views on them but you could put a tub with a lid and put some salty water to put them in when you find them? We are getting ready to put the garden mesh over the full length 6m bed. I think would be too humid for poly and in the summer way too hot. It is trying to get that sweet spot for the current weather isn't it? Yes with the sprouts i think it was a lack of sun too where they are. Normally isn't as bad. Going to amend that bed too and see if we have some left over garden mesh. I love your green tunnel! We have grated panels in front of it as it's prime position of the lawn so try to protect them from birds and balls with netting. Hope you can get some improvement on your internet. Is there anyway the council can help? Sounds like you could do with fibre. We are about 500 mtrs from our box, if not more and at the end of the line. That's a lot of houses in between and there is always some BT engineer messing with the box. We are lucky if we get internet upstairs. The router is one a different fuse sector on the consumer unit to the upstairs power so can't use the TP powerline adapters up there. We use them just to get internet in the ground floor. Yes would be awesome if you could get a Po Box set up! Yes totally understand. We turn off the things on vinted that give our address away. Ali is a lovely lady and i thought i would send her some of our seeds. She sent me some back too, which was too kind of her. Inpost lockers are handy if you have some near you? Have you used vinted before? I am using it to clear out the baby stuff. I need to remember to upload some more stuff. I find it better than market place as you can drop it off to a locker and it gets posted, without people coming to the house. We did have one couple come to the house and that was nervewrecking but ok in the end to sell off an Ikea play kitchen, which was too big to post. I am a lot less nervous about using it now and "talking" to people on there. Anyway, waffling again and was promising myself not to write long comments! lol x

@AnyKeyLady I will have to look in to the inpost lockers etc. I know it’s expensive with Royal Mail. There is no fibre (virgin media etc) along our lane at all and we’re about 2km from the nearest BT junction box. That box is for super fast broadband but we’re so far from it, that’s why we have issues. We have a lovely little family nursery about 15 minutes away. I did buy some plug starts from them but they were all quickly potted on and seem to be growing well. Most of them are destined for the polytunnel over winter but some will go outside too, good comparison. It’s been very nippy the last few days. Certainly feels like winter is fast approaching. Hope it’s not so wet as last winter/spring this time. The whole farm was a bog I’ve been lucky with compost.. and lazy with it too. No baking done here 😅😅

I thought that you were saying that you were going to pull up all of your sunchokes and I was noooooooooooooooo! Mine just started to flowers. You're not missing very much. They're so stunted this year. I don't think they liked the whole ambience of the cold temperatures and that. Although I do have a good tip for storing sunchokes. if you keep them dirty and you put them in a plastic bag taped up the plastic bags, so no holes, they will last like a year and the bottom of your fridge like in the cooler drawer and that's where I put mine. But then again I've got two fridges so Different for me but you can do it on a smaller scale.. odd thing to say to a farmer 😂 also if you ferment them then you don't get so much of the fartachoke issue 😅
