Well guess who is going with her list to the garden centre this weekend?? I honestly didn't realise just how many vegetables we could over winter. I knew definitely onions and garlic but so good to know there's a lot more! I think Niall I'm going to stick to the onion sets this year. It's only my second year growing and the confidence isn't there yet 🙈. Perhaps next year! Sooo excited about the scallions... I adore them and will be searching for the Guardsman variety. Yay champ almost all year long 😊. Also going to try turnip and the spring cabbage you talked about. Thank you Niall, you have given me a wee lift.. so nice to know that something is growing in your garden over winter albeit slowly just waiting to be harvested in the spring. Fab video again Niall thank you. 😊. PS my label printing machine thingy is fantastic!!! Family don't like to stay still for too long in case I label them... woman on a mission! 😂🤗

Hi Geraldine! I'm so sorry for only replying now. I fell way behind with all my comments so I'm trying to catch up! I think that's fair enough about using onion sets - it's about getting the job done in a way that works for you and I may end up doing the same if I'm not able to find the seeds I'm looking for! Hopefully you're able to find the Guardsman seeds - I think they're common enough. Glad you enjoyed the video and it gave you the lift - when people say things like that, it really spurs me on to keep making videos. Also, I think a lot of people identify with your comment because I've just spotted that it's already got 6 likes from people other than myself!

Very limited planting in zone 4 in N. Dakota but you did give me a few ideas to try and plant. I believe my version of your seed box will be similar but a little different. I like the sleek look of your tins but I have a lot of tins from tea and other Holiday events that I have been looking for a way to recycle and preserve the memory. Also I have a few old wooden food market boxes passed down to me that would be the perfect size. This way I get to touch the memories year round. -Thanks for the idea!!

Hey Niall, mate I gave the hot composter a crack and it is a beauty.Actually two beauties! One is a black compost bin I put insulation in the lid and added a solar fan in a big bottle that heats with some piping with holes so it adds some extra heat to Compensate for a lack of insulation. It hit 55 degrees today and its only 24.The other one is polystyrene boxes from a fruit shop on top of each other with lids cut thru the bottom two and of course the holes drilled thru the bottom, but not as neat as yours😂I put the cam straps up and over the top so it is connected to a small pallet so it doesn’t blow away and cut it into the bottom one so the lid can come off easily.I painted it black so it would heat and be protected. It hit 60 degrees today and only been going 3 days.I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your all of your great advice and information.Your videos are sound advice and your garden is a fair dinkum ripper! Garry ps I priced to get a hotbin sent from England... it was going to cost me $1100.00 to Australia.HA! The fruit boxes were free and the cam straps were $16 bucks.hahaha Thanks again Niall, your a champion.👍😎

I just bought White Lisbon Winter Hardy onion seeds from Plant World Seeds. Can't wait to get them in my garden. September where I am is still a bit too hot, though, so will try them next month. This is my second try growing onions from seed. Tried another variety last year and germination was terrible and I didn't get any to the size of planting out, so I caved and bought starts! But this is a new season and I'm going to give it another go! Please wish me luck!

@@niallgardensHi I know it as Pak Choi too. And my asian friends, and from asian movies I watch it seems the correct way will be Pak Choi. I don't study linguistics and don't really care if there are other variations of expression. For me important is to know what plant I deal with, what benefits I get from it, how to cook it😂😂i really don't care if it has beside botanical name, hundreds of other variation. Late comment, but just landed here on this channel. Was looking for something else. I like the chanel. I live in Ireland, and I am a very passionate gardner since young age, simply by my nature, I always felt connected with nature, plants. I saved hundreds of plants from the bin, that others just throw them. I never been confident enough, but lately i started to realise that i do have green thumbus. Living with rent, in a foreign country is not easy!!! Non speaking English people will never understand the challenge I think. Conditions 8n Ireland for renting even the smallest room are really outrageous. No conditions at all, but definitely rip off by landlords. And all because we all keeping silent. Even though I had to face this for few years i still managed to grow houseplants. From 2022 i switched more to herbes, vegetables, fruits. No success because i was invaded by slugs in my first floor apartment. I tried natural and chemical solutions too. Is like crazy here. Live near a mountain, and the area is very thriving for them. I gave up and focused more on indoors plants. This year 2023, God blessed me with a friend, that lives country side. I have succeeded with everything I have sown. Nothing more rewarding to see the crops, and enjoy very tasting dishes, without fear are treated with all the nasty things. We all can be self sufficient If greed and dark wouldn't have so much power
