This will be our third gardening season in Ireland. You’ve been super helpful with tips and advice all along our journey, thank you!! 😊

So nice of you! I’m really glad that you find the videos useful. How are you getting on with your garden?
@donna.in.ireland4 минут бұрын
We did ok last year in our new home only because I insisted on building a greenhouse. The weather is so unpredictable here! I planted wayyy too many tomatoes and it turned into a jungle. 🤣 Trying to plan better this year and be patient with starting sowing, which is great advice in this new video.

I know I'm ready to get on with the main event!! lol. Seeds have arrived and I have sorted into planting months. All my tender pot plants and trees are in the garage and I am ready to have a clear out. Texas actually had a little snow and very cold weather well below freezing. Not common for North Texas. Zone 8B. Freezing at night and 48 today. Our plants don't know what to do. Thanks for the video. Take care.
@niallgardens2 сағат бұрын
You got this! Once that cold weather shifts you’ll be well set and ready to go! Our cold weather has eased and now it’s the usual mild grey wet Irish weather!

The interior shot was a suprise...so modern. My preconceived notion of your house style was definitely on the lines of Victorian/traditional😊
@niallgardens15 сағат бұрын
Ah yeah when it comes to interiors, my style is definitely modern, Scandinavian, almost minimalist 😀

I agree with the get outside! I go to my allotment once a week minimum, there’s always things to do, and an hour now can save 3 in spring 😁 I’ve not sown anything other than onions for now…I never used to sow a thing till march but the last couple years I got heat and light set ups for the long winded crops 😊 but even then I don’t start till end of Jan lol thanks for the great tips 😊
@niallgardens17 сағат бұрын
What a fabulous way of putting it - that an hour now saves 3 in spring! Love it!

Hi Niall, what app do you use to sketch your garden ideas? Thank you!
@niallgardens18 сағат бұрын
So that's actually just apple's 'freeform' app on the iPad. I use that for really informal sketches. For anything to scale, I'm still experimenting with apps to find the right one. Do you have an app you like?
@TiagoRibeiro-i9f17 сағат бұрын
@niallgardens Thank you. I actually use Sketchup for the Web, because I like to 3D model since I'm a very visual person.

Pruning is not the best thing to do in the garden well at least not here in Tx with native perennials.
@niallgardens18 сағат бұрын
I can well imagine. Here in Ireland it's the ideal time to prune apple and pear trees while they're dormant

I’m making a gardening journal by putting all my notes in one book that I can refer to without going through multiple journals from years past.
@niallgardens18 сағат бұрын
That's a brilliant idea - how are you getting on with it so far?
@flowerfarmartsКүн бұрын
I love your advice! I am so tempted to start seeds indoors under my grow lights, but I need to wait until February to start the cool weather crops here in the US. One thing to consider when cleaning out old plant debris from last season is to put the dead plants on top of your compost heap or in an inconspicuous area in your yard instead of destroying them. This will help all of the beneficial insects that are overwintering in your old dead plants, and they will come back to pollinate your spring garden!

That's a brilliant bit of advice! Thanks!

Curious, what's your favourite and least favourite month in the garden Niall!?
@niallgardensКүн бұрын
Oh I love this question and you're actually the first person to ask EVER! So... fave month is May because everything just feels so fresh and bursting, or maybe January because I feel like I can actually get something done and make progress! Least fave month is July because it just feels like everything is happening at once, plus the spring freshness has passed but we're not quite into that late summer feeling. Now, right back at ya... what's your fave and least fave?
@IrishBeekeeper15 сағат бұрын
@@niallgardens touché! I love July because it's peak beekeeping season and the honey supers are getting stacked high! Least...hmm, that's a bit harder. Maybe January when the grass is so wet and the dogs tear it up. It's bad for my OCD 😅

Hi Niall,happy new year. Hope you're all well. Bitterly cold here had -6 in the week during the night, -1 today, had lots of snow from last Saturday for 3 days settled very heavy, so I'm afraid no gardening for me, snow still on the garden and soil is rock hard. The paths are icy and treacherous so been indoors to keep safe. All the bulbs are showing their heads even had 2 crocus in flower at Christmas, at least this cold will put them back a bit, we need to see the spring flowers in spring not now. Hope you're extension is finished and you can get on with making your garden good again. Thanks for this vlog, always good to see you, take care bye for now, happy gardening 😊xx🌷🪻🌻

Happy New Year to you also Hazel! I hope you're well and looking forward to 2025. Yeah it's been incredibly cold here for the last week or so also. We were hitting the same kind of lows as yourself. Thankfully that's the bulk of the house build done... certainly the actual construction part of it. Still loads of decorating to do! Have a great week! ❤️
