One piece of advice I was given years ago that seems appropriate here: check that your shoes are clean and polished! Most of us wouldn't go to a job interview without ironing a blouse or trousers, but sometimes we forget that the last time we wore those shoes we stepped in the neighbor's lawn and got muddy :)

I wore t-shirt and jeans for an administration job interview and was hired. Even the interviewers were in casual wear. There is no strict rules for interview dress code.

I wore a nice black and white dress with black cardigan for my interview. Later on the guy who interviewed me mentioned to the recruiter that I wasn't dressed professionally enough. The dress wasn't short or anything and I had on black Mary Jane style heels with it. This was years ago but it made me mad because I thought I looked nice. Anyway I have had good luck with the blazer.

Consider a silk scarf when interviewing with a bank/law firm. It completes the look in the same manner as a men's tie, and allows a pop of personality. Absolutely NO stiletto nails. Typically these offices use competency based interviews and you need to score at certain level so anything that distracts the panel from your answers will hurt your chances.

Me neither, I would never wear jeans to an interview, unless I know for sure that I can wear it and it's in balance with the rest of my outfit. Most of the time I wear a blazer with a blouse, I'd rather be overdress than underdress. Ofcourse what you wear depends on the company and the job but sometimes I just go on their website and maybe you'll get an idea about how most of the people are dressed there. Also I would say, wear your best colours and make sure everything sits in it's place because an interview can be very stressfull so make sure your outfit fits you well and is neat and comfortable to wear what ever it is.

I haven't been in the working field for the last 12 years but I can tell you, I cannot wear blazers or buttoned down shirts. I'm 5'0 and very large chested (for me it's a curse). So I wear separates but very tasteful and conservative, no cleavage. I use dark colors with a pop of pastels. I use very little jewelry, and not too heavy on makeup. Hair is cut into an asymmetrical bob.

What about for an interview for a tech position like a computer programmer? I was thinking maybe go for slacks and a blazer, but you have to be wary about the fact that you'll likely be doing a lot of writing on a whiteboard. So, you'll need a top that's free for you to be able to reach and move around.

I think that's a really great idea. You should check out Zara or Asos for those pieces. I love their options for business/professional settings. They have great styles for mobility so you'll be able to easily raise your arms to work.

Depending on the position, you can wear a suit or separates. I'm a fan of slim fit suits right now. Places like Zara and Asos regularly carry them and usually in a neutral color. You can always add a nice blouse under the suit if you'd like a pop of color.

Personally I'm a fan of a basic closed toe pump in patent leather or matte. I use this shoe time and time again for professional events or even paired with jeans. I got an affordable pair on pretty little thing but Amazon carries many similar styles or even House of CB if you're willing to cross the $100 price point.

I personally wouldn't wear a denim jacket to an interview. It looks really casual. Recently a male friend of mine invested in a $400 denim jacket (much more than I'd spend) but it was perfectly tailored and looked incredible. He works remotely so it's job scenarios are more relaxed. I can imagine him using that type of jean jacket, but that'd be an exception.
