I always wear the same things irrespective of what type of course or driving range I play at. Always a collared T-shirt, pants or knee length shorts and golf shoes/sneakers. I have never understood people who dress differently based on type of course

Anything comfortable !!! No Jeans at all or Flip Flops the rest is fine at a public driving range.

That's awesome! A Public Driving Range is very casual for clothing, really everything goes. But if you are going to a Private Course to use their Driving Range, I would wear proper golf attire ( Collard shirt and appropriate length shorts or pants/trousers).

Great question. Depends, if you are at a private golf course (country club) same rules as shorts one hand above your knee is usually ok. Anything shorter they may give you a hard time. My golden rules is always go to the website of the golf course to check their dress code. If you are a public course they are usually very easy going especially if you live in North America. I hope that helps answer your question.

I am a beginner to golf. I have enjoyed watching some tournaments recently. Watching the DP World Tour & LPGA: ISPS Handa World Invitational 2023. Yes coach, I will be wearing a collar though I’m annoyed with the vendor that sold me a Tee shirt without one as a golf shirt! I plan to comment online to point this out to them! I now have to find somwhere to buy some golf shorts with four pockets! What is your take on tucking or not? I don’t really see why you are asked to tuck your shirt in, I think it looks very 1980s, but will of course if my club requires it.

Where golfing is concerned, it’s very interesting. I’ve seen some golf uniforms look like either equestrian or softball. I’ve also seen where soccer and volleyball look similar. Isn’t that crazy?

It's interesting people want to dress so casual and informal at even private courses. I'm a bit of odd duck, haha, I almost wish we'd return to 1920s golf attire. Sweater vests, caps, collared shirts, ties, etc.

These are no acceptable. I would still be careful if you are going to a VERY PRIVATE Country Club as a guest I would wear a collar just to be safe. Any other golf course you will be fine :) Hope that helps

Thankyou so much for this info..I have a query..My husband is in the Indian military and we are often called as guests for golfing events .During these events there is usually an important golf trophy to be won...Usually we the non players and mostly wives are called only towards the end ( nearing the luncheon time) and sit mostly as spectators barring those wives who are playing too .While there are stringent rules for players( male) there are no evident rules to be followed by those who have come to watch ..Thus most of the wives arrive in clothes suiting the weather and mostly high heels too..I personally find it a little improper but don't really know what I should wear that ticks all the boxes( especially as someone who has to only watch and take part in a" fun putting " towards the very end.I would really like to dress in a way that respects the game and tournament .Only don't know how to go about it

Hi Pam. I love this question. I have a few follow up questions to ask before I answer... Do you attend any part of the golf on the golf course or just come strictly for the lunch? Do the awards take place inside where the lunch is being had or outside by the golf course?I am assuming that you are at a Country Club and not at a public golf course.

@@CoachShayain We attend these events in a military owned golf course.Thing is..they have dress rules (and fairly strict) for the players only .No dress rules have been prescribed as such for the ones who go to watch. The lunch takes part in an enclosed area ,a little away from the actual play area. As we enter the course there is a gazebo and some shady trees where areangements are made for the spectators to sit .This area is just a fewmetres away from the course..It is here that we ( mostly ladies) wait for the chief guest to arrive( A general and his wife )..Unless they are playing themselves,they come towards the very end..Once they arrive ,there is a " fun putting" for the non players so to speak ..So yes one by one we all are called ( not to the main course but a small side course but is nonetheless part of the course).It is here that the fun putting takes place..Once over we all go back to the gazebo where the trophy ceremony happens and then we all move to the lunch area. So I guess ,though we go largely to watch the game,yet we do play a shot each maybe....I cringe when I see ladies arriving in jeans a tank top or tshirt of any kind and high heels..Their reply??? "" Its okay Pam.. don't stress ..we aren't playing....We came just to watch!!"" My thoughts??? " Well yes...but you are still damaging the course with your stilletoes.." Am I being uber finicky???

@@Pam-fh4ji thanks for the detail. Well the unwritten rule in golf is no denim even if you are a spectator so in a way you are correct. But if no one is implementing a rule for the others then I guess it just makes them look a bit novice. You stick to what you know. What I want to know is how do you do on the “fun” putting game? Make sure you watch my videos on putting so next time you are there you look really experienced :)

Yes they are. It all depends on how ¨private¨ they are and they may require a certain length that the skirt needs to be above your knees. Best bet is to go to that specific clubs website as they should have dress code on there and if not call them and ask about dress code.

Unfortunately, No. Private Courses have very strict dress code policies. Highly suggest before you play a private course go to their websites and read their dress code policy. Better to be safe than sorry.

Look, I'm going to wear whatever the hell I want that feels comfortable. If the course has a problem that's fine, my money works great other places. I'm a high concessions customer (loads of drinks and food) so it's their loss. I golf to have fun and relax, so I'm wearing my usual comfy clothes. I will never buy special clothes for golf. This is one of the things that makes me NOT want to play and learn this sport. It's pretentious elitist attitudes a lot of courses have. My local public courses are not so pretentious. Take care of the course, be respectful. Follow the rules. That's what matters. Nobody cares what you wear.
