Hey Tim. So in digital piano s you forgot one. The stage and the home digital pianos. The stage pianos are the digital pianos that have no speakers on them. They have to bee hooked up to a sound system. The home digitals are the ones that have the speakers on board and do not require a sound system to bee connected to it. The only way you can hear a stage piano is 2 ways. Either use headphones to hear it or it has to bee hooked up and connected through sound system. The home digitals though are exactly the same piano but,,, their are speakers either on top or below the keyboard of the piano. Great video!

Great video Tim! I have two notes though. 1-Stage Pianos are NOT Digital Pianos! ("Stage Pianos or Digital Pianos..." 0:30) 2-I would also like to note a 4th of keyboard (a special type of a digital piano): The ESCAPEMENT Mechanism Keyboard/Digital Piano. What is important about it is that it has the Escapement mechanism. This is extremely important for playing certain pieces such as the famous Scarlatti K 141. It also helps in playing notes repeatedly and quickly (like in Ondine). However this comes at a price cost. You will need to pay $4000 or more. The notable pianos that have this mechanism are CLP 685 (best choice), CLP 535 (Budget Choice), CLP 545 (Good choice if you have budget but not too much), and the new CLP 785. (The best if you can get your hands on it). As for digital pianos (in general), their prices are good and some offer more than stage or even keyboards can offer (at the cost of immobility of course). YDP 162(3) is a great choice for people in the intermediate and early advanced stage of piano playing. (About $1200-$1400) CLP 535/545 is great for people in the advanced range (like they can play Chopin's Ballade No. 1 then they are advanced). (About $3000-4000) CLP 685 is the closest you (or well, I) can get to an acoustic piano. (About $5000+) If you have the budget I say go for CLP 685. If not then 545/535. And if you still do not have enough budget then go for YDP 162.

So, I want to compose music using a Digital Audio Workstation as part of my dream job. My most idealistic, dream instrument for this is the Arturia Keylab 88 MKII, but it costs a thousand dollars, so it's way out of my reach at the moment. Something I found when looking for a keyboard to learn on is that there is no digital, hammer action, 88-key digital piano I can afford right now. Casio released this digital 61 weighted (not hammer action) piano called the CT-S1 really recently and I'm really excited about it at the moment, as it looks really cool (albeit, not without its drawbacks), and fits within my budget. What do you think about someone with the aspirations that I do learning on a piano like this?

good info fella, only thing i would say regarding synths is that you can pick up older 88 key synths such as the korg triton prox a few yamahas 88 key workstations, same goes for roland and kurzweil. Some of these do share the same piano beds as the stage pianos as well as some of the sounds too. These old 88 key synths can go for the same price range of lower end stage pianos, but you can do more with them, Some may have been expanded too with extra sounds. I have started off learning with an Alesis qs 8.1 which was basically a very entry level synth/ high end stage piano, I recently moved it on to my buddy, so i could buy a 20 year old High end kurzweil K2600 xs. stacks more piano sounds and you can really dial into the sounds if you want too. So dont rule out the older 88 key workstations, you can record etc too. All depends on what you want to do.

Good information. The only problem I see is that with the current situation (covid 19) most of what is on Amazon they don't ship to Australia, and the prices are around double for us. And if you can find the piano/keyboard you want from stores here in Australia the prices are ridiculously high, like 6+ months ago a Casio CTX 700 was around $400AU but recently they have just about doubled in price 😣

I have a Roland digital with weighted keys and full keyboard and pedals built in- I used it for a number of years because I didn’t have room for acoustic- but I still had trouble adjusting to acoustic with my lessons- now have acoustic- the problem was on digital did not have same touch as acoustic

The weighted keys are for folks who want the acoustic piano feel...but organs use light springy keys, so it depends on what folks are looking for in their key choice.

I am really amazed about what I hear about others kids... Take a hammer and smash the keys? At 5? I wouldn't even think about doing that at age 2...
@worldfrontiercuriosityvide15462 жыл бұрын
The "toy keyboards" you showed are all arranger keyboards, meaning they have rythms you can play along. People who play in bars, weddings, etc use them, since they can emulate an entire band. The cheaper options can be good for kids too, there are $150 options that have sensitive keys, sustain pedal and all. But for a 5 year old... Wouldn't a mini keyboard be better? Also, a pro tip from a Brazilian: don't associate yourself with that Lord Vinheteiro guy. He's a well-known Nazi here in Brazil. Just go to his Twitter account with Google translate to him what I'm talking about (hell, he's holding a gun in his profile picture).

I find your explanation of each category very incomplete. I do not believe you can describe a synthesizer as something with many buttons and a lot of colors (paraphrasing). Or when you jump to stage pianos and do not mention digital pianos, or electric pianos, for instance. It is difficult to explain all this, but certainly, you didn't do a good job.
@LessonsOnTheWeb4 жыл бұрын
You definitely have a point on the digital pianos and electric pianos. But why can't you describe a synthesizer as something with lots of buttons that synthesizes sound? I've never seen a synthesizer without a ton of buttons on it just saying. I guess what I'm trying to ask is how would you describe a synthesizer?

@Les thanks for enlightening me with this info. I have some catching up to do when it comes to synths.
