What vegetable seeds can you sow in July? Although the focus for many fruit and vegetable growers in July may be maintaining existing crops and harvesting, there is also a great opportunity to continue sowing to provide later crops and harvests later in the year and beyond.
The climate in July is usually much warmer and drier and this provides a great opportunity for sowing directly outside. In this video I share with you 9 different vegetable seeds that I will be sowing in July to try to maximise my harvest over a longer period.
I hope you enjoy the video and gain one or two suggestions that you might try for yourself. I'd love to know what vegetables you are sowing in July so please let me know in the comments below the video.

Thanks for the tips ,, very useful to have a reminder ,, are you pretty much self sufficient in veggies? I enjoy sowing seeds and watching the green shoots emerge and any spare space I have on my two allotments I sow carrots ,, I had my first taste of potatoes last night ,, boy oh boy ,, no comparison to shop bought ,, best wishes, Lisa

Hi Lisa and thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. I’m pleased you found the video helpful. I wouldn’t say I’m completely self sufficient in veggie just yet but each year I’m getting better at succession planting so I am producing more and more veg. As you saw near the end of the video, I’m also thinking about sowing my first winter greens at the end of July. You are right about your potatoes, there is no comparison between your own home grown veg and that bought in a shop/supermarket. Kind regards. Gary

@@TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen at the end of July, I shall be sowing Tundra cabbage ,, this was fab last winter and it grew exceptionally well with perfect tight sweet hearts ,, I’m also going to sow ‘all year round’ cauli to go in the poly over winter,, I have stable doors ( no horse, lol) and keep the top part open to keep most of the weather off but they still like it cool,,module sown spring onions planted as a clump do brilliantly in the greenhouse over winter in the tubs and compost the tomatoes were grown in ,, bit of blood fish to refresh,, I think a lot of people are turning to growing their own to supplement their income and pensions with the prices going up ,, best wishes, Lisa

@@lisag9493 Thank you very much for your comment Lisa. I haven't grown Tundra Cabbage is a while but you have motivated me to sow some more! All the year round cauliflower is a fabulous variety and one I grow regularly. I think you are absolutely right, with the cost of living including fruit and veg rising so fast, more and more people are looking into growing their own, which if you think about it is quite sensible. Not only will you save money but the freshness of using your own veg is incomparable. I'm definitely getting many questions from new growers who are starting on their veg growing journey for the first time. Kind regards. Gary

Hi Andrea and thank you for your comment which made me laugh. You are quite right of course there is always plenty going on and you suddenly come across a video that is looking at the following month. I know I make these videos but they are also really useful for me as it forces me to think ahead. In the past, I’ve missed sowing certain veg, so these videos help me get the most out of my Veg Plot. I like your no nonsense approach, straight to the point and loads of good advice, only difference is as a 74 year old lady I practice the no dig method ,making lots of my own compost to add to my raised beds each year in Dalek bins, but the methods are the same for growing , so thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Lynda and thank you very much for your comment. I'm pleased you like the videos on my channel. Making your own compost is great and that is something I always recommend. I think I will be doing a little more no dig in part of my allotment in the future. I have started this year with a no dig potato trial where the potatoes should be ready for harvesting in a few weeks, so I'm looking forward to that. Thank you once again for your kind comments about my videos. Kind regards Gary

just come across your utube video and these are great tips. very informative. I have a gap in my poly tunnel from removing woody celery so trying to decide what to put there. growing carrots at the moment, but perhaps some more beetroot. radishes are going strong but love to be able to continue to re-sow these every few weeks! perhaps more lettuce I think as thinking of growing more beetroot and carrots outside in raised beds along with my slow growing parsnips which i hope will be successful later this year! I have a serious issue with rabbits, mice and squirrels where I live so having to cover most things outside with chicken wire!

Hi Lisa and thank you very much for your comment. I’m so pleased you found my KZbin Channel and that you are finding my videos helpful. I’m the same as you when it comes to keeping my polyhouse as productive as possible. I grow a lot of my salad veg inside but I’ve also grown seed onions and beetroot inside for the first time this year which are both growing well. I also know what you mean about dealing with pests. Slugs and pigeons are the main issue in my Veg Plot so I’m constantly battling with them! Keep up the good work, it sounds like you are doing great! Kind regards. Gary

Hi Marion and thank you very much for your comment. I've had white fly numerous times before especially when I grew broccoli a few years ago. They accumulate quite quickly. I would always avoid using pesticides on any crop but there a number of organic methods that you could try. Take a look at this article from GrowVeg, which I always find to be a source of good sound information: www.growveg.co.uk/guides/5-organic-controls-for-greenhouse-whitefly/ I hope this helps and kind regards Gary
