If you’re wondering what to plant in July zone 5b don’t fret! JULY IS NOT TOO LATE!!!!
It makes me sad when I see people only planting in the spring and missing out on increasing their harvest by continuing to plant in the summer. There are both cold sensitive and frost hardy plants you can add to your Zone 5 garden in July to extend your harvest into fall and even winter for some plants!

This is awesome, found this video before it's too late (I usually forget to think about the fall harvests when it is so hot out). Nice to find Canadian information from my area!

Just started gardening in Chicago (zone 6a/5b) and it's always helpful to find info to these zones ... I guess not everywhere goes 100+F in the summer and -20F in the winter!

Hello, and thank you! We are in 5B as well in the Berkshires, Massachusetts (not Boston). We just pulled the garlic yesterday. First season for garlic and we did surprisingly well! Grateful. It has been a weird season. Going to plant black beans that are saved from last year and spaghetti squash/turnip when the peas are done. Shade cloth is a great idea (or a light sheer curtain/sheet during the hot day sun. Have a wonderful summer! Peace

If you dont like swiss chard you can dry it , powder it, and use it to add to other things. I use the powder to add to banana bread, soups and stews for a nutrition boost. I do the same thing with any brocoli that bolts.

So happy I found your channel. I live in the states in zone 5b and also have a hydroponic system. It’s not easy to find someone making videos about both of those things!

Thanks so much Kristin, for me it is all part of micro homesteading but not sure the KZbin algorithm agrees! I really think growing food inside and outside are key to being more self-sufficient as it is the gateway to growing food year round! Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh no, I just watched this video as first introduction to you. I just moved into an undetermined-yet whether 5a or 5b, PER the official sites so try to just Google or KZbin for "5", figure good enough? I totally appreciate your approach to actually showing & saying specific types, vs all the other gardening people I watch with generic info or long camera shots that doesn't show anything. And the reason for the "oh no" is because in this video I already liked you and felt like I was in my friend's garden like I was yesterday and just saw your "whoot" and "awesome sauce" reply and thought I was the only one that said those anymore 😆😆

Thank you very much for the video! I only have a 16x16 area because I rent and try to grow as much as I can. I started a baby sprouting broccoli /cut and come again type two weeks ago and will grow it in containers as well as carrots and snap peas hoping for more harvest!! No one thinks about fall gardens especially in our zone.

Seem like Fort Erie is closer to 6b. But don’t focus too much on it, hardiness zones are just guides and averages at best. All they really tell you is the average coldest temp.

It's August 1st and I'm wondering what I can plant tomorrow here in Nova Scotia. I have carrot and beet seeds and possibly potatoes. Is it too late to plant?
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener Жыл бұрын
I would think it is too late for potatoes, but carrots should be fine! I made a guide that walks you through calculating the usable days left until your first first which would give you more info on being able to decide it there is still time! ourlittlesuburbanfarmhouse.ck.page/zone5fallplantingguide Hope it helps

Yeah….they put things out for the start of the season even if its not the best time for them and then they move on. I saw some on Amazon, that might be your best bet. I’m still starting seedlings.
