I agree with Sean. The only men I hear complain about that are "dogs". 🤷🏾‍♀️ If you're not mistreating anyone, you wouldn't have to worry about your reputation being shared. Also, as a sister, I consider it my duty to protect my sisters. If I know that man she's dating is an awful man, I'm telling her to save her from heartbreak later. I don't understand. When you treat people right and well, you don't have anything to fear... It's that simple. It's irritating that women are called "gossips" for telling the literal truth. 😅 Misogyny runs deep.

The issue is that some men date with the notion of, let me throw this pasta on the wall and see what sticks. A God-fearing man who is led by God has sought Him on who His wife is, and He's going to get her. He's not trying to figure it out because he spent time with God. Anthony and men like him treat dating as buying stock options.

So true. I was thinking, even outside the church, if a man approached women in the same circle and the ladies didn't say anything to each other, it would feel like a betrayal. I went to dinner once with a guy at church, and we didn't want the same things in life. A few weeks later, he started dating my friend at church and I was honest with her - he's an honorable man, but our desires don't match. They dated for 5 months and I was genuinely sad when it ended between them. I was also the first person she called. And why would you as a guy not tell me you spent time with my friend? If the dating was honorable to the Lord and was not sinful, why hide that you had a few conversations and went out for a few meals with someone I know.

My wife and I became friends at church. Her and I were just running our race as God called us to. My poor wife had dude after dude after dude just join the church serve the church just to get close to her and she would turn them down and they would disappear. What drew her and I closer is we both were willing to be single. We surrendered it to God. 3 years pass and we decided to start dating (no it wasn't like friends with benefits or anything similar it was just a worship team, bible studies, and serving the church whole heartedly). Now we've been married 6 years and doing extremely well. Don't seek a wife. Seek the kingdom of God. During the journey God will provide if it is in His will. You have to be willing to lay down your desires for Him.

My wife and i dated for 3 years before we got married and noone in the ministry knew. The church found out when our picture was posted during the announcements. The church had the wide open mouth look. My wife and i made sure that when we first talked about it that we don't discuss our relationship with anyone. My wife is not that type of woman and she doesn't have many friends at all, whether at church or outside of it.

This is why you don’t date/ shouldn’t date in church, just get to know them as a friend. If it doesn’t click, then no harm. We rush to call nothing “dating” if you’re not being romantic- you’re not dating - you’re just getting to know each other.

This is a way more nuanced conversation. We also have to be honest, and this is from my experience, a lot of men push boundaries, not just in action but also in words, and go about dating in the church in a way that they're damaging their own reputations and causing a lot of hurt and drama themselves before the woman even has a chance to "talk too much". As women, we try to protect other women by warning them about those men. I'm not saying all men, but it is A LOT of them. First conversation/interaction and they want to talk about topics that should be left to a covenant relationship. I also think all of this would be solved if people really emphasized building friendships. If we didn't hyper-fixate on marriage in the church and instead our focus was on God and building community/friendships, out of those organic friendships, it would be easier to choose the friend who you want to pursue more with organically and it would take the pressure and awkwardness of dating every single person to figure out who is your spouse. Then, men aren't shopping for a wife, picking up and setting down each woman like they're some piece of produce you're checking for rotten spots on, and women aren't left feeling used and jaded and therefore won't be telling every other woman their business.

If a person is telling their story, that is not gossiping. Telling someone they are gossiping, when they are not, is a form of silencing and controlling them. The things is while some women do “run their mouth” some men in church try to mess around and play the field, therefore they have every right to worn another woman about you if they know you aren't right, and lets be real men do it to, if you dated or went out w/ a lady in church and it didn't go how you wanted to go you'd tell guy to stay away from her so stoooooop. If you are a stand up guy then you shouldn't have to worry about what someones gonna say, he must of had a bad experience. He can't speak for men in the church though he can only speak for himself or men he's knows who's actually said that. Not mention done if the men in church run through women like food at a picnic and then expect to be protected, and in some cases the pastors know this is happening but only deals with the women talking when he needs to deal with the men doing.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Shalom beautiful people of The Most High and many blessings to you all and to your beautiful families (personal/ministries). This is a good dialogue. And everyone's perspectives upheld a true outlook on how dating is seen by some in the environment of the church. And if the man of valour, Mr. O'Neal is concerned about his image and reputation when engaging in a dating experience within the realm of the church, then it is beneficial for him to make sure his steps in that experience are Spirit led (which was addressed by you all). It is never wise to pursue a dating experience without the counsel, instruction, and guidance of The Holy Spirit. This disposition will eliminate room for bad experiences to occur, especially with a person that is not built to compliment one's blueprint. And it is also just as important for a person to show a high reverence and respect to The Most High and His house. Because we cannot treat the environment of the church like a random public setting. We have to approach the church environment with a different posture and not handle that environment the same way we would a secular environment. The church environment is a sacred and holy place and we need to treat it as such. When a person brings that kind of energy into the environment of the church (secular energy), that person will end up attracting a soul who also carries that same kind of energy (presence). A born again son or daughter of The Most High have to carry a different language and presence in their walk. And it is within that walk that people will tell that your approach to life, and even dating is uncommon and that you are a safe place for an integral person to learn about your unique expression of the breath of GOD. GOD Bless you all and thank you for sharing this beautiful dialogue that was built between you all. Shalom unto you and to your beautiful families.

I think Anthony O’Neal may have somewhat of a point. However I feel like a man or woman getting a reputation could happen in any group setting. And he said it too bluntly.

The conversation went in the wrong direction. They are supposed to be talking about why a man would choose not to date a woman in the church because of what might happen. They are talking about how the guys name could turn out bad in the community of that church and the people who know them. The other lady explained what happens from a woman perspective in the form of venting. That explains the idea of the reason of venting, but it does not address the damage that is done from the “venting”. Hence, the reason why he would not want to date someone in the church which is the original topic. And now at the end of the video, the conversation has flipped into what a guy might have done to mistreat a woman and how men don’t go to GOD about who they date. Not bad advice but definitely curving away from the point.

He wasn't wrong. It's a podcast. He's a podcaster, which means you have to have some level of marketing ingenuity. Could he have said, "Women talk"? Sure, but adding "too much" garnered the attention he needed to make his point. It's very likely that dating more than one person within the church or even a job will result in chatter or an exchange of experiences at some point. So he's stating that's why he's against it, which can be valid for him without it being valid for someone else. A play on words for a playback clip.

Real talk, I’m a wm and I can say wm do gossip a lot esp in the church and it is a problem. I’m a mind my business, keep to myself, watch/observe quietly type person and still find wm (and some men) that are very immature and gossip which is def a turn off when you want to join a church. To me it shows lack of spiritual growth and makes me question if it is a specific issue in that church if I notice it very often in multiple ppl and decide to leave that church if it is. But off the topic of gossip/talking to much in the church…. I can also say that AO is very opposite when you see him in a different setting. I remember watching his “singles retreat” or something like that. He had it filmed like a reality show and there were scenes of him with his male friends that showed how different his demeanor and speech was compared to what you see on his podcast. He cussed a few times and was talking rl “playa from the Himalayas-ish” 😂. To me it showed why he stays single and has to “maximize his singleness” 😂 so I can see both issues that were presented.

When a female doesn't win they become bitter. They want men to walk on eggshells when talking to them and have all the answers on how a man should be yet keep coming up short on how they should act. They say stay in your lane focus on you when you trying to tell a man how to be a man you are not on task your job is to learn how to be a feminine woman not a masculine one. If you argue with a man running up in his face that is not feminine but y'all continue this behavior and wonder why men don't treat you delicately. Act vulnerable for one day around men then the next act the way you were taught to behave and see the difference in how they treat you. A lot of moms pass negativity to their daughters because of how their relationship went wrong and train them to be defensive instead of feminine.
