I think her Mother thought she was protecting her and who knows those we're rootless times,if you ever heard of the Prince's in the Tower 😔 And Conroy No excuse for him 😠 He got a free ride and he thought he could trick Queen Victoria and gain power 💪 but even at her young age of just 18yrs, She knew better ... 😉 😜 😆 🤣 😂 👸 👑

I really enjoy your videos. I grew up with my British Grandmother, who was born in 1891 England. My grandmother was 10 when Queen Victoria died. My Grandmother never wavered from what she learned from the Victorian era. She was a creature of the habits she had been taught. I am so sorry that as a child I didn’t inquire more historical and familiar knowledge from her. 👍🏻🇬🇧🙏

That she was strong enough to separate from her helicopter mother made her capable of being Queen. And being in her mother's shadow allowed her how to navigate the pitfalls of Royalty. She slipped a little when it came to letting her last child separate from her but it wasn't as horrible as the lives of her female siblings and their arranged marriages. One of my Aunts was content to live with her mother but did work outside the home until her parents final illnesses after which she returned for a few years before retiring. She was happy with her life until the last few weeks when she was in terrible pain. She was ready to cross over then, hoping someone would take over her position of emergency caregiver in the larger family. She was an Artist as well. I could see her being Queen.

Even though she went overboard, I can understand her mother, wanting to be with her own child and to actually raise her instead of a bunch of hired help.

This was an excellent video, as always. If you ever need a suggestion, I would suggest Marie Antoinette's sister, Maria Carolina, who became Queen of Naples. She was a fascinating person who ruled her husband's kingdom with an iron fist, gave birth to 17 children and was the daughter most like their mother, Empress Maria Theresa.

The damage inflicted by the Kensington system permanently damaged Victoria and all of Victorias children and many of her grandchildren. Queen Victorias mother may also have endured childhood trauma because “hurt people, hurt people”, but the unvarnished clawing for power and position using her daughter as her bargaining chip cannot be excused. It’s a tragic story in many ways with some soaring extraordinary achievements despite the pain and controversy.

I always find the term "succession crisis" a bit confusing. A crisis for whom? The only people who care are the royal family. For their subjects, it doesn't make a difference. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss". And with all of the inbreeding, they really were interchangeable. You could switch them out and nobody would notice.

I have been really enjoying your videos for years now. Your narration, presentation and research are superb. Would you be able to do one on Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt? There’s plenty of information on KZbin about her daughter, Gloria Vanderbilt or Little Gloria, but next to nothing about the mother. She sounds like a rather scandalous and fascinating woman in her own right but seems to be totally overshadowed by her daughter and sister.

excellent work! You really gave us an emotional glimpse, of the queen and her mother. I am glad to know Victoria learned of her mothers great love for her. Not to mention her being a loving caring grandmother. I will never get over young girls being given in marriage to old men they barely knew. Bottom line, little girls meant money if you married them well. It is sickening to think about today. On the contrary, I have heard wives, of arranged marriages that still occur today, as happy. To me, it makes the children property ,to be sold or given for favors . I am sure that culturally I can only see it from one side. I would like to think the vast number of arranged marriages, that still occur around the world; the parents only want security and happiness for their sons and daughters.

Queen Victoria herself wasn't a vey good mother. Whether it was due to her own upbringing, or the fact that she had one child affair another I don't know. She may have had postnatal depression. Also back then child birth was a lot harder.
