Delayed handoffs on the goal line is just asking for trouble. That's play calling.

Exactamundo! That is just plain STUPID. Take the snap under center and hand off to a running back who already has his momentum going towards the goal line. How hard is that to figure out?!?!

What upset me was the lack of situational awareness on offense. After we jumped out to that early lead, we were out scored 51 to 37. When it became painfully obvious that we were going to have to score on every possession, we did what we always do. Pass when we should run, and run up the middle on short yardage. We have three big TE’s. Use them! Continue to use the same players which, when the defense makes adjustments, isn’t as successful as it was earlier in the game. We are way too predictable on offense

I think this comes down to Behren being a better QB than the WSU guy. And I have faith that DeRuyter will get the defense improved - maybe not fully fixed, but moving in the right direction. Then again, I'm a pathetically optimistic person, so...

On that 4h and 1 that got stuffed, Porcher got beat so fast it was ridiculous. His guy crashed down before Porcher moved. All he could do was wave as his man flew past him. Porcher was unimpressive to me. Very slow moving. Depressing that they don't have someone that can beat him out. I couldn't disagree more with Level on Tharp. He was been criminally under utilized in the passing game. Yeah Conyers had a good game, but all of his plays were outside the numbers. That isn't a TE, no matter what he's listed as. The one pass Tharp did catch was with him running towards the sideline. What about 6'9" dragging the shallow middle or the flat? I keep saying this, 3rd and 4 or 5, all Tharp has to do is run a short curl and fall down and he has that. When Iowa State was cutting Tech up for those years, they were keeping 3 tight ends busy, but Tech has a hard time with just one. Just a lack of imagination and a waste of talent IMO.

@@theycallmehoipilloi5495 yes instead of all of them. We clearly need weapons on offense. I know you aren’t saying Eakin, Kelly, Douglas, & Conyers is enough to beat tougher opponents. The fact that he missed all of SPRING ball is why these reps early in the season are so important. When do we start giving him more reps? Against Arizona State? Cincinnati? Arizona? Baylor? lol might as well redshirt him.

Have you seen how he has performed in practice against college DBs, especially since he missed SPRING ball, which is, yes, very important. lol. He's going to get plenty of snaps.

A few weeks ago, you asked us to describe our desire for this season with 1 word. Mine was "early." The first game epitomizes what I was worried about. Coach McGuire and staff have shown they can teach improvement during the season, and our late season W-L record reflects this. But this staff oversells how good we'll be coming out of the gate. It seems that the staff is waaaaaay too willing to heap false praise on the team, when in reality, they should be more objective in their analysis of where the team actually sits. We weren't ready with our backup quarterbacks last year, and our performance at that position cost us a couple of games. Our offensive line wasn't up to par, and that negatively impacted our season. Our defense was hyped up as being stellar over the summer and yet got torched in game 1 by ACU. I would much prefer less hype and more honest assessment of our true situation by the coaching staff. Our fans have suffered for many years with disappointment over our mediocre results since Mike Leach was fired. I think the WORST thing our coaches can do right now is to over promise and under deliver. I also think that a more honest assessment by the coaching staff will help facilitate true improvement during the early part of the season, which helps us get to the next level, where we all want to be. Do I think Coach McGuire and staff are the right people for the job? Yes, I do! But for the foreseeable future, please don't tell me all summer how good we're going to be and then give us a "clunker" to start the season. I would much prefer less verbal hype and then seeing an actual great early season performance, which shows me we're in for a GREAT SEASON. Okay, Coach McGuire and staff, time to fix what clearly isn't right with the team, and hopefully, you can do this quickly before our dreams for 2024 melt away... God Speed Fellas

Rewatching the game for a Morton highlight video and there were two things that stood out: 1) penalties really hurt in some of those final drives that limited points 2) we left A LOT of time on the play clock on that last drive before the final field goal that we could have sucked away from ACU for their final scoring drive to tie it up. That could have been done differently. But Behren looked great and so did Tahj. It’s going to be a shootout this weekend! #WreckEm

Tahj Brooks/Tight Ends/WR, hands down great talents. From my assessment of the offense, we have to be able to project dominance on the O-Line, plus ad a reliable 2nd running option. Should be able to grind down the clock with someone besides Tahj, in a 4th Quarter 2/4 minute drill on the opponents side of the field. Felt ACU was afforded too much time at the end of the game to drive down there to tie/win. Definitely can be adjusted throughout the season like last year.
@OsitoTejano2 ай бұрын
Yes, a good team and a smart OC uses all of the clock at the end of the game and doesn't leave them just enough time to drive down the field and tie or win the game. Kittley just doesn't get that. It's just all about cute play designs, just like Kliff. The game flow and situational playcalling are above his head.

What bothered me about our O against ACU was how conservative it was for most of the 1st half, Morton essentially only targeted 3 WR and we ran the ball a lot. Near the end of the 1st half, he opened it up and threw to Conyers and I felt better. ACU is the easiest game on our schedule, UNT is the only other team even in the discussion, so yeah, nit picking is OK because we are looking to see how we are going to produce against so called P4 defenses. To add to the conservative talk, in the 4th down miss, a play action pass on 3rd would be perfect. If it doesn't work, we have another shot, but everyone on ACU's D was ready for Brooks.
@joelrobinett74482 ай бұрын
Kelly is the real deal. Play calling is very unimaginative. I cannot stand the hurry up offense that isn't creative AT ALL. It is an absolute waste of a down a majority of the time. We ran ONE real play action play (my opinion) where it was a true fake to Taj and a pass over the middle to Kelly - great play. We basically have ONE running play in the play book - OL basically zone blocks - we take the shotgun snap and turn and hand it to a stationary back and tell him, go find a seam - even from the goal line too! Very uncreative. No screen game in the playbook other than the wide receiver screen, that admittedly, we ran better last Saturday than we have the last few years - a testament to the new receiving core I think. We rarely threaten the middle of the football field. Other than that, it was great! 🤠We scored 45 in regulation and only 13 in regulation in the second half against a FCS team that made adjustments and were kicking our butt. Someone seems to be in over his head.

The "Air Raid is our identity" narrative is holding this whole program down right now. We needed the Air Raid to try to compete with OU and UT because we were never going to match their Jimmies and Joes, but we don't need that now. We can compete in the new look Big 12 running what Mcguire really wants to run, which is ball control offense and tough defense. I was afraid this was going to be the year where Mcguire has enough and finally says "do you want me, or do you want Zack Kittley? Because I cant win running this offense!" And, he's right.
@jasonbrown28942 ай бұрын
If McGuire doesn't like the offense, then as the HC he brings Kittley in the office and says "Here's the type of offense I want to run" and set his expectations for it. Kittley can either then say "Yes sir" or go look for another job where he can run the type of offense he wants to. I don't care if we bring back the Wing T, I just want wins.

What was revealed is that Kittley hasn't changed. Delayed handoff, sideline patterns with a degree of difficulty of 10. So predictable. THROW THE BALL TO THOSE GIANT TIGHT ENDS!! 10 yards, over the middle all day long. Everyone is all over the defense and rightly so. But coming away without scores on the goal line, settling for field goals. We should have been up 21 easily and that is on Kittley.

Honestly, if that’s the best way to keep your offense in rhythm, I’ll take it. Sometimes it’s worse for an inexperienced o-line to slow things down when they’re not used to it. Kittley’s problem really begins with player execution. His scheme is pretty good.
