It's been 99 years since the last time Rochester saw a total solar eclipse.
In 1925, Mayor C.D. Van Zandt was overseeing the construction of the city's new subway system. And a natural phenomenon that only comes around once in a lifetime loomed around the corner. Was the city ready to go into darkness?
“The newspapers were really good about explaining the phenomenon and you would find many drawings and sketches explaining how the moon was moving in front of the sun,” said city historian Christine Ridarsky.
