Wow I completely didn't expect to find someone reacting to this song when I looked it up haha. This is definitely one of my favorite songs ever.

Ooh. Somebody actually reacted to this! Comus is so weird but beautiful. Dark, jubilant gypsy music. Still perplexing decades after it was made.

Hi. Sorry for did not see your react to this song before. Sorry a lot This is, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful vinyl ever made. Comus "First Utterance". The song "The Herald" is unbelievable beautiful. One of the best ever! Strange, powerful, take us to another time, place, don't know.. Thanks.

I bought it in 1972 & still play the whole album, their second album was called “To Keep From Crying” a totally different album, and a brilliant one as well. And worth finding !

My first reaction to this song was like 'wtf is this song, I've never heard anything like that before' (I've listened to a lot of music btw). I was listening to the full album then and this song definitely stood out to me and I'm kind of addicted to it

You definitely have to close your eyes, sit back and let the music do its thing with Comus, pure aesthetic experience

A great inspiration to Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth who even used lyrical quotes for album and song titles.

The band is named after the masque of the same name by John Milton which was first performed at Ludlow Castle in 1634. The masque was later set to music by Thomas Arne in 1738 and was performed in London for more than 70 years! Some of the themes in the album are very loosely based on that story, which tells of the abduction of 'The lady' by the debauched Comus, a character inspired by the Greek god of revelry, who tries to seduce her with necromantic spells and a lavish array of food and magic drink intended to arouse her sexual appetites and desires. She refuses to listen to his argument that to give in to one's natural desires and appetites is legitimate, arguing instead that virtue is the better and wiser course. She is eventually rescued by her brothers, and an attendant spirit who conjures up a water nymph who frees her from Comus's magic spell. I saw them live when the album was first released. I think you need to listen to the whole album to get the feel for what's going on (unfortunately our original copy of the album was warped making it almost unplayable, without the stylus jumping around some of the tracks. Luckily my brother managed to get a re-released copy a few years ago). Not something you can listen to regularly but overall it's a haunting album.

First Utterance album stands on its own in uniqueness and is a classic dark album. A precursor to heavy metal without the electric enhancements. A classic piece of musical history.

Talked to a friend today introducing him to this song, and I told him, "this is a song which needs a react video", and god bless KZbin, here it is! one of the albums I enjoy introducing to friends under the category "this is something you never heard before", definitely unique, one of a kind I think, and some beautiful parts in it. One of the best acoustic guitar albums in my opinion.

You could have chosen a better track, but the fact you reacted to Comus is good enough for me.

What Comus track would you have chose? In my opinion Comus doesn't have a single bad song, so to me, Drip Drip is a perfectly good song to start with!

Drip drip is one of the best ones on the album, but for "newcomers" something like Song to Comus is better to acclimate to.

If the Incredible String Band had been satanists, this is pretty much what they'd have sounded like. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not.

To steal a quote from C.S. Lewis (he was writing about the Fellowship of the Ring), Comus came "like lightning form a clear sky". First Utterance is challenging, incredibly dark and yet beautiful. The fact that this album exists makes music a richer soundscape. EDIT: Props for reacting to it...
