Really beautiful artwork. It helps me to imagine what life was like for our ancient ancestors. It always surprises me how our ancestors were a prey item for other animals, putting us at the bottom of the food chain so to speak. It is interesting to speculate how much of a factor the Guass-Matuyama reversal may have played in the evolution of Hominins. As the geomagnetic pole reversal exposed all life on Earth to greater intensity cosmic rays, there would certainly be a far greater incidence of mutations in all forms of life during this period. Following the Guass-Matuyama reversal, the emergence of the genus Homo occurred, with marked physical changes from their Australopithecine predecessors.
@ThReverend66612 жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting take, it certainly makes sense.
@DuelingBongos2 жыл бұрын
@@ThReverend6661 I can offer a bonus speculation which suggests that the evolution of Hominins may actually be the result of a unique celestial coincidence which began about 11 million YBP and continued intermitently up until as recently as 800 YBP. During the past 11 million years there have been at least 20 near-Earth supernova explosions. Each supernova would shower life on Earth with an extreme dose of cosmic rays. This would have driven greater numbers of mutations, which coincide with the evolution of primates from gibbons to great apes to humans. Perhaps human evolution is entirely due to an astronomical fluke. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-Earth_supernova

Interestingly the date of the Guass-Matuyama reversal closely coincides with the first appearance of artifacts and human occupation in natural caves around Europe, Asia and Africa.... perhaps spurring the development of our ancestors communal behavior, linguistic skills and bonds as they needed to spent more time together when not out actively hunting and gathering.

I think it's fascinating that there's still so much about us as a species that we don't know. Aspects of history you can't tell from just the bones alone, the monolithic societies we built. Additionally it's becoming apparent that humans have achieved things at times they shouldn't have been able to like in the case of Stonehenge or the information we're gathering in the respects of Ancient South American Empires. To think that we've seen humanity behave in so many ways, and be able to judge how it is we behave today. I think we've finally been able to have a moment to step back and appreciate where we stand in the universe and what that means. Nothing else in nature has truly been able to grasp what we do now and it should be a moment of reflection for our species and how we choose to move forward. I think knowing now with the problems we potentially face in our future, that there's a true potential for us to literally push ourselves into extinction, is a true testament to a chance for change and survival. We can all do only what we can, but it will be intensely interesting how we move forward into the next 100 years.
@jorgejustice2 жыл бұрын
That was really cool. Really cool and really informative... I love the subject of the predators that plagued our ancestors. Whether they were from land or sea or River, they are the inspiration of the concept of monsters, and they were real. Short-faced bears and saber-tooth cats. God knows what kind of whales and sharks lived in the oceans in those days. I feel like miracle stacked on miracle stacked on miracle has to happen for us to discover a species. The fossil to be fossilized and then for it to be brought to the surface and then somebody who recognizes it finds it. It's incredible. So I feel like we only know a small portion of what the world was like in those days and there could be whole entire species that were just as terrifying as sabertooth cats and short faced bears. Especially the bears. When our ancestors supposedly came across the Bering strait into North America, there were polar bears and short-faced bears and probably the large cats as well. The short face bears had those really long arms that have no business being on a bear
