I know very little about this topic, but I am a big fan of history. I imagine a reason that a person might oppose the pilgrimage of grace is because they might themselves be a strong supporter of protestantism. Another reason is they might have close ties with the monarchy, and a person might understand that the pilgrimage of grace was doomed to fail, so it would be best to just throw their support behind the king rather than the rebels, therefore they wouldn’t die/be imprisoned/lose their lands, etc. Hope this helps at least a bit

why were monks and priests so prominent in the pilgrimage?
@firescorched954 Жыл бұрын
Because one of the main reasons for the uprising was because of the closure of monasteries
@justinwakeling2966 Жыл бұрын
They were ousted out of the monasteries and put on the road the public felt anger at there religious havens being destroyed so that Henry viii could divorce Aragon and economically benefit from the money from the monasteries

People witnessed all there monasteries being torn down the start was Henry viii wanting a divorce from catherine of aragon- as rome opposed the divorce only making henry viii head of the church of england could he divorce yet he continued to tear down the monasteries & take all the revenue Cromwell was significant in this
