No matter what a team has to go up against, winning the World Series. So we'll be looking at all the World Series winning teams from 1969-2022 and looking at what was the toughest run to a World Series. From the 1988 Dodgers to the 1998 Yankees to the 2004 Red Sox to the 2011 Cardinals to the 2019 Nationals, every World Series counts the same and is not an easy task.

St Louis 2011. They were basically playing on the brink of elimination all through September. Beat an all time great Phillies team, beat their rival who had their number all year, then coming back to win after a strike from losing the world series in two different innings against a monstrous Rangers team who all but had that title in their hands.

St. Louis 2011 and it's not even close, near the end of AUGUST they were considered to be out of playoff contention and then never stopped wining series again. It has to be the most insane late season turnaround is baseball history, considering the entire season and playoffs combined I don't think anyone else is even in the conversation.

Besides ever heard the number "19-31?" That is the record the Nationals started with in 2019. They ALSO created a gaping hole for themselves to start the year, just like the Cardinals.
@forgettablelisa
@forgettablelisa 10 ай бұрын
@@kylesloane3815 Started with. Lol, tons of teams turn their season around at the break. The Cardinals were so far out of contention in August that the Brewers CF publicly told them to enjoy playing golf in October. The Cardinals then went on to win the WS playing through every series exactly as they had the entire stretch run since his comments, just winning every game in the most miraculous and impossible ways. If there is any proof that baseball gods are real, it's the 2011 STL Cardinals. It felt actually magic to watch that run. It made no sense that they kept winning, every night it was something like the Rally Squirrel. Nationals had a great run in 2019 and probably had a better team that year than STL did in 2011, but it's not even close to what STL did in 2011 in terms of historical significance. Nothing in my lifetime has been, from August 15 on they were the most improbable team ever imo. People forget how terrible that season was because they won, 2011 was really the first time people wanted Mozeliak fired, not 2023. That Rasmus trade is another great example of how improbable 2011 was, the trade SUCKED on paper, made no sense at the time as you were selling low for spare parts on a former top prospect seemingly just because he hated TLR, yet that trade ended up giving them some of the most important parts of the stretch run. Made no sense and worked out anyway, the 2011 STL Cardinals.

@@forgettablelisa that is awesome man. That is interesting Morgan said that (he would say something like that lol). You seem to know a lot about the Cardinals. That truly sounds awesome. And then 11.5 games back too is an impressive comeback. At the same time, I feel like there seems to be a lack of knowledge about the 2019 Nationals. I'll just agree to disagree then. If you can tell me equally how it felt about the 2019 Nationals and what happened to them, and then counter the argument, I will think about switching my position, especially with the "not even close" comment and calling others dumb.

Great video and analysis. I would like to point out the analysis lacks one playoff round: the regular season. Example: The 1980 Yankees had an expensive ALCS entry ticket where the Orioles finished 2nd with 100 wins that year. On the very same year, the Royals had an easy run to the ALCS where the second place A's had 83 wins.

Ok, I may be a little bit biased as a Cardinals fan, but I think they were Washington's thoughest opponent. My reasoning here is that if you look at the past times Washington made the playoffs, they were beaten by the Cardinals almost every time. The Cardinals were their nemesis, which I feel made them the biggest obstacle in their way. For anyone else, it would be the Astros. Again, I may be a little biased, but that's just my thoughts on it

Can we retire the "2020 World Series doesn't count" narrative? The Dodgers were on track for a 116 win season had they played a full season and outside of the first round of the expanded playoffs, the playoffs largely played out as expected. If that season doesn't count, then you might as well throw out every season that got shortened due to a significant event in sports history. In addition, you disproved your own narrative by mentioning that exact same series earlier in the video.

@@Zark_Moneybags69 So you would have rather there had been no season? Because that would have been the alternative and you still would have complained. By using the "2020 doesn't count" logic, then the Lakers' post-Kobe championship doesn't count, the Lightning's mini-dynasty-starting Stanley Cup win doesn't count, and Tom Brady's last Super Bowl doesn't count. People just like to do this because they can't accept a team they didn't like won. In addition, that season might have had the toughest road to any championship ever. And that is more or less the road to the championship now. That World Series absolutely happened.
