This is Brian May's opus. Just as stunning, complex and compelling as Freddie's Bohemian Rhapsody and also Innuendo. You need to listen to it multiple times, listen to the extraordinary repeat-delay vocals by Freddie, and read and comprehend the lyrics. Your confused reaction is (to some extent) understandable - masterpieces, such as this, always take a much more immersive experience in order to truly appreciate their greatness.

The over dubbing or as it's called 'Cannoning' in the middle makes this song, in my opinion. It's very Bohemian Rhapsody like. This is why Brian loved Bohemian Rhapsody so much. It was going to be called 'People of the Earth'. He explained that he wrote the song after a dream he had about a great flood while he was recovering from being ill.

I once worked in a music store which sold guitar instruction CD's and tapes (yes, tapes) each hosted by some famous guitar player. The Brian May CD covered by far the most complex ideas for chord structure and harmony. His amazing understanding of music theory translates into a big influence on the vocal harmonies we hear in Queen compositions.

This song was written by Brian May after he had a fever dream about the story of the great flood while suffering from hepatitis during the recording of Sheer Heart Attack. The song’s working title was “People of the Earth”. Utilizing Queen’s creative production and experimentally, the song is packed with interesting concepts, from its delay effect solo to its famous cannon section that goes on for 2:30 minutes. The song is structured very similarly to Brighton Rock from their previous album, also written by Brian May. It is also the longest Queen song (discounting the 22-minute-long untitled song), playing at 8:20 minutes. FYI - Freddie was able to produce his distinctive growl because he could utilize his ventricular folds (also known as false vocal cords) to produce subharmonics. Subharmonic sound is a vocal technique that involves producing a second, lower-frequency tone while singing. This is most famously associated with the Mongol-Tuvan throat singing of Siberia. Bohemia Rhapsody was written by Freddie (it is a combination of 3 songs he had been trying to write but couldn't finish, so he just mashed them together). BoRap has 6 distinct separate sections.

Queen in their own right could and would rip your face off with a rock song and blend it into the most beautiful love ballad you ever heard. 🇸🇪 here. The first time I saw Queen live was at the (RIP) Rainbow Theatre in London 1974. I was sixteen at the time and that concert was the first time I travelled abroad (from Sweden) just to watch a rock concert. Took a cheap inside shared cabin on the ferry from Denmark, slept at a really, really cheap hotel and loved every minute 😉😁👍. Also Brian May was definitely one of the biggest reasons I started taking my guitar playing seriously. The red guitar Brian mostly use has his own story. Back when he took up playing more seriously at 16 (1963) he couldn’t afford a quality electric guitar - so he asked his father, an electric engineer, to help design and build his own guitar. The project (wholly designed and built by them) took well over a year to accomplish and the result was ”the red special”, which has been his primary guitar ever since. And of course one of my own electric guitars is a BMG Super, a recreation of the original "Old Lady" as accurately as possible and handmade in the Czech Republic for Brian's own guitar shop 😊.

Mrs. Coach is correct, you need to listen to this one multiple times. As a commenter below said, this was a dream Brian had battling hepatitis. I'm going to add my two cents worth here and suggest you listen to the lyric video of Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to . . .) soon. It's Brian's BohRhap masterpiece. At the beginning and at the end you can hear toy koto (japanese instrument like flat harp, Brian got it as a gift when Queen were on their first tour in Japan ), the song appeared in Brian's dream when he was in a hospital recovering from hepatitis and he could hear snippets of the song appearing and remembered how people in his dream were desperately reaching for each other... He also liked to experiment with delays on his guitar but there he was creating harmonies with voice delays... The lyrics are about the great flood and Noe (... and two by two my Human Zoo ... return as a white dove ...) 😮 And yes, you really need to listen to '39 ... another Dr. Brian's gem (that's what you get when you have an astrophysicist in a band 😅)
@bensteckler66987 ай бұрын
Brian May was a student of Astrophysics, and in 1974, when he started developing this opus, he'd probably heard of Ancient Astronaut Theory due to the popularity of Eric Von Daniken's book "Chariots of The Gods'. ..and how the flood myths are part of ancient lore from civilizations in every part of the Ancient Earth. The music has elements of Native American music, Japanese Music, Spanish flamenco, and even European Faerie lore.

Hey Coaches!! Now THAT was Queen at its greatest!! The beginning of the song is Brian playing a Japanese toy kyoto... beautifully, as usual. As many commenters already remarked, Brian wrote this after a Hepatitis-induced fever dream and incorporated the "2-by-2 my Human Zoo" lyric to confirm the Noah's doomsday MADMAN approach to the concept... the repeating echo effects of sound only enhancing the "madman" genre... so technically advanced and innovative was this masterpiece, BUT because it was also on the same album as BoRhap, that many have underrated this beautiful little gem of an opus... so THANK YOU for introducing so many of your fans to this side of Brian and Queen that they probably never knew before... keep up the great work...LOVE your channel!!... blessings.

It is definitely a bit of a doomsday song like you said, as Brian May had a dream about a great flood, very similar to that of the one in the Bible, and I do believe he may have been sick. The wind noise at the beginning and end was, believe it or not, was an AC Unit with a phaser on it, and the other noise was a toy Japanese Koto given to Brian. The part in the middle is Freddie singing, then what he sang was played out of a left speaker, then was played out of another speaker on the right so Freddie could harmonize with himself. It’s definitely a complex song that I really love, it’s one of my favorite songs of all time.

I know that you like Brian May’s playing and singing, so I urge you to listen to a song he wrote and sang on his own. It is called ‘Too much love will kill you”. He is singing about loving two women and having to decide to leave one for the other, and how it tears you apart. It is a great tune and words that make you actually feel what he is going through. At the time, he was married but had fallen in love with another woman, who he subsequently married and are still together. She was an actress in a long running ‘soap opera’ as we call them.

@@CoachCastTV There's definitely a connexion with 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as they're both from the same album and have the same producer, similar equipment, same approach to mixing and all that. They were literally being recorded simultaneously, some doing stuff for one in one room and some overdubbing some more for the other one elsewhere. 'The Prophet's Song' was even a contender for the lead single position at some point, but they finally settled on 'Rhapsody' and the rest is history.

Hi there mr & mrs Coach, 🇸🇪 calling 🙂 I understand that you are both fascinated by Brian May's guitar style. If you want a suggestion for a song where he really does magic with his guitar, I suggest "Good Company" from the album "A night at the opera". It is a kind of 1920’s/30’s jazz tune, in which he turns his guitar into a full jazz band, complete with trumpets, trombones, tubas, bassoons and clarinets. John Deacon is on the double bass. The song is of course entirely a studio product with lots of overdubs and as far as I know they never played it live, but basically everything is done with a tape recorder, Deacon's hand built guitar amplifier (called the "DeacyAmp") and May's Magical Guitar. I recommend that you read on the web about the secrets it contains. Keep up the good work.

This is a song that really doesn't work live so official video is the way to go. This is a very deep song both musically and lyrically. So much innovative stuff used in it. I was almost traumatized the first time I listened to it because so much was coming at me but after a few passes, I really learned to understand the depth of all of it. Roy Thomas Baker (engineer for Queen) said it was the most outstanding piece of music he had ever heard or worked on. Brian said that this song literally came to him in a dream. He brought it into the studio and introduced Freddie to the Bell or Cannon effect (using your own voice over a repeated echo of it) and Freddie loved it and really ran with it on the song. The song is very much influenced by the story of Noah and the Ark.

But then this song has become my all time favourite song EVER. It's unique, amazing production, epic piece of music. It always gives me chills. This song is like Brighton Rock you listened before. It takes some time to appreciate its full potential.

If a person came out now saying the world is going to end would you think them a prophet or a madman ? I think this is the crux of the song - using story of Noah as a reference.

This is Prog-Rock. Not every song is a three minute pop song.[nothing wrong with pop.] Some songs require lots of listens to get into them. Anyone who is into Queen knows that multiple layers of vocals were part of their sound. Not every Queen song is Bo Rhap!

It`s not a ballad, no. It`s more of a gospel, considering the lyrics. After all it is about the biblical Flood.

This is more prog Queen, progressive rock, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, more recent Porcupine Tree. Try 'Roundabout' by Yes or 'Firth Of Fifth' by Genesis.

BR is just about Freddie coming out to his mother. It’s him teller her how he felt and feels and who he will be. March of the Black Queen is him coming out to himself. This song is 3 tracks before BR on Night of the Opera. Their best selling album.

Very good, never knew what BR was about.

I love you guys but if this was my first ever reaction, it would have been the last. this is a stroke of genious, it is a master piece. you guys come form an era of music where you had to pay attantion and have focus and actully listen to music. I don´t get why you struggle when the single greatest voice ever sand is doing a tripple repreating cannon that is reamrkebly bueatiful. and you mock it? you want chinese food? now you know? You are very lucky to have this great queen comunity to follow you just listen to their great songs for the first time, making a living while doing it. so the first thing is have more respect, and the second thing. listen. I am telling you you are lucky we have this connection, me and you this channel otherwise my reaction would have been very different and definately the last, I also hope you keep respecting Queen and that this sharade never repeats itself

That's a bit over the top first of all. Second, not every person likes or connects with every type of art. We don't make a living with this channel, we barely make anything at all. The copyright holders get all revenue so we only get the very small donations. If something like this offends you, perhaps some self reflection is in order. Nobody else seemed to have an issue with it. You can have any opinion you wish, and we'll respect that. But lighten up for your own health. 😀

@@CoachCastTV first of all I understand about donations I will correct this right away. Secondly, if my reaction was over the top is because I did not appreciate your relation with this song. It made me angry and it showed spme dissrespct. since I want to have my own reaction channel soon I will learn from this as what not to do. now you guys say you appreciate Queen fans, stating you had 12.. 12 requests for this song. so be apprericiative in your response. you can not like a song but respect it, respect the artist and the men who are here watching you. I am one of 5500 people.. wow. they all sat down and heard those remarks. Many aren't brave as I am to come to you and state my feelings, and well as far as art. I can not like the mona lisa. does it change anything in the world? no. so I can say I don't like it but there are ways to react and say that wasn't the most fun song ever. you go on and on about how you can't stand a ballad. I think it is rediculous personally but I don't judge. I keep coming back. you were just a bit dissrespectfull to one of Queen's greatest most illaburate, intricate and unique songs and you luagh at it a bit. it's not serious. so before you say my bravary is over the top. relly think about maybe doing another reaction to this song. having more of an ear to it. listening. then giving your honest opinion as I would in my future vids. then I would forget all about it and I am sure Queen fans would appreciate it. nevertheless, if this was the first video I saw from you guys, I would never be opening this channel again. so learn from this one. About the rest, i don't mind bein jean dark in any story. I am not affraid of anything and I always state my mind. To me Queen is sacred and I will always defend it. but thanks you are right I will have a nice cold drink now. ))) The only reason I took this time is I like you guys. you are for me the american frontier as far as queen are conserned. I remeber freddies dream to reach guys like you. you usually show a lot of respect and I share it back. I saw 30 reactions from you and I try to like and comment. but this was not respectful and I said it. again, only because it is you guys. thanks.

@@NativC2ndChannel We appreciate your rights to your opinion and do not censor differing opinions here (unless extreme personal attacks are made, or substantially abusive language, neither of which apply here). 👍 We have never intentionally disrespected any artist on this channel, even those we clearly did not connect with. 98.5% of all thumbs on this reaction video were thumbs up. That's a very high percentage of viewers who enjoyed the video and did not perceive disrespect. "To make mistakes is human; to stumble is commonplace; to be able to laugh at yourself is maturity." - William Arthur Ward That quote sums up our belief, that it's important in life to laugh. If a person cannot laugh at their own self, it's not good. If they cannot laugh at the world around them and find humor in nearly any situation, that's not healthy. My own mother, laying dying of cancer, could still joke and poke fun at herself and others, despite being in excruciating pain. Music is not off limits to that, and neither is Queen. One person's masterpiece is another person's garbage. Spending as much time as we do in the comments makes you realize that every song has wildly varying opinions from the best thing ever to the worst thing ever...and all of them are convinced they are right. And they are, for themselves, and only for themselves. We are very aware there are people out there who don't want to watch our channel and that's fine with us. We are going to be ourselves and I'm pretty much 100% sure that we'll poke fun at more Queen songs because they have such variety. After watching the one coming this week, we saw clips of videos that made us pretty certain there will be some videos to laugh at coming up soon. 😁 Queen clearly had a great sense of humor. I doubt they would have taken our reaction seriously, and neither did the vast majority of viewers. A reaction channel is entertainment. Good luck with yours. We hope you do well. You'll have haters no matter what you do, so be prepared for that. Social media is brutal at times. We appreciate you watching and commenting on our videos. We hope you stick around but realize that everyone is free to spend their valuable time where they feel they get the most value. We'd never hold that against anyone if they want to spend it somewhere that doesn't include us. And we appreciate those who do spend it here. Just like we appreciate the talent of these groups, even when their art is simply not for us. All the best. No hard feelings on this side. ✌

I am just saying you can do another vid for this or just acknowledge your mistake. you just did it live, we all do it. it wasn't respectfull. and of course I never use fowel language. again, this was said will love. I was offended and I had to let you guys know it was wrong. you can do whatever you choose with this. I promise to read it all tomorrow just understand my stand.
@NativC2ndChannel3 ай бұрын
@@CoachCastTV so back a few days later I will try to be short. 2 of the things you said aren´t 100 percent true. first, the fact you quote someone does not mean they cover every single case. and in this case this was not light hearted, this was insulting to the song and to me as you watcher and a Queen fan. now it may not have been commented, but I am sure others felt the same. maybe some of them are no longer followers. there is a fine line between setting a joke everyone can relate to and laugh with you guys and to mock and laugh at someone. and as a person who has seen 20 or more of your queen comentaries, this wasn't the first one. just the whole vibe was "what the hell is this song" and well, to be honnest if I hadn't known you guys better, I would have said completely other things. and would have never seen another video you did. what that you should do instead of quoting me quotes that should make me have fun of myself and being more relaxed, is reflect on this commentary and not repeat it. not only in Queen videos, but altogether. you can have a sense of humor without taking away anything from a song you don't relate to. the other wront thing, no. a masterpeice is not for one and gabage for another. there are some art pieces that are a model of greatness and when refering to other art they are comparible. for example. the mona lisa or other art works done by great artisits, like Van gaugh in painting, Motzart and beethoven in music and so on. you cannot say the wall by pink floys is garbage. you can but you will just show the unworthiness of your views and ideas. Pink Floyds the wall is a masterpiece, period. it is a fact. now you may not like it, but you must acknowledge it. I don't like metalica but I know they are a great band. maybe the most important Metal band of all time. I respect their music. I will never mock it. this song you are commenting on is a mastepiece from a top 500 of all time album list, this is one of 3 or 4 pieces in the night at the opera 1975 queen album regarded by many the greatest album by this top 5 all time music band. you may not like it, but you cannot disrepect it. Now again this was vibe but the moment you guys said "I want some chinese food" to me you lost it. it was already mockong this song. I felt really bad but since it's you guys I kept watching. but laughing at freddies performance saying well now he knows just killed it. this is not how you treat a great song by a band you listended to for so long really respecting it's art. so, I would love it if you guys say you are sorry instead of lecturing me again. I don't care about stats. this was personal for me and you did what you did. so.. if you don't, then just learn from it. I hope I will keep following you guys. I really respect you taking the time to anwer me, and I also want to learn from what you said, but i am an honnest person and I will never hold back something real just to have good realtions to someone in oreder to get help from them. you guys can make it right very easily so, it is really up to you guys. I feel offended so I may not watch vids any time soon, unless you guys have some other answer. but at any case, I will take my time and reflect on this because this is not what i expect of a reaction channel and I have to also take this as a lesson to myself. I have to be more aware of how I relate to things I don't agree with in life and espcially if I do any kind of streaming content. thanks again for the ideas and support and the content I did enjoy before this terrible video. sorry for sayint something not that nice as my truth. hope you can grow from this. best of luck.

Sounds like they had Brian on some good drugs.Brian wrote it when he was in the hospital. Freddie put his own vocal interpretation on it. It's rather a Noah's Ark doomsday scenario. And they couldn't tell you what it was about either.
