what about if you start by converting frequency unit from Hz to nm then solve the equation. am getting a different answer
@thechemteacher
@thechemteacher 3 жыл бұрын
You cannot directly convert Hz to nm because those are units of different measurements. That would be like converting seconds to meters which you cannot do because there is no direct relationship between those units because those are units of different measurements, one being time and one being distance. Similarly in this problem, Hz is a unit of frequency while nm is a unit of wavelength. If you are getting a different answer than I did, it is not correct. However... you could first convert the speed of light from m/s to nm/s. Then use that value in the equation of c = lambda * v to end up with your answer in nm. Again, you should get the same answer as above if done correctly. Thanks for the question, hope that helps!

Why mine it says 3, 500?
@thechemteacher
@thechemteacher 3 жыл бұрын
3.5x10^3 is the same as 3,500 so you are also correct.

Why am I getting a different answer? When I divide 3.00 by 8.6 im getting 0.348 and as for the scientific notation portion im getting 10^-5 not 10^-6.
@thechemteacher
@thechemteacher 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, 3.00 / 8.6 equals 0.35, and 10^8 / 10^13 equals 10^-5. So your answer would be 0.35x10^-5 which is the same thing as writing 3.5x10^-6. 3.5x10^-6 is better scientific notation since 3.5 is in-between 1 and 10.

The last answer is wrong. It should be 3.5X10^-15nm
@thechemteacher
@thechemteacher 3 жыл бұрын
The last step is (3.5X10^-6) x (10^9) = 3.5X10^3. If you accidentally divide by (10^9) you will get the incorrect exponent of -15.
