Homeschooling should be unique to each family. That's what makes it such a beautiful thing! With that in mind, here is what we don't do in our homeschool.

I see the pressure to be busy all around me. I prefer to keep things simple as well.

I completely agree with everything, especially the last point you raised about that there is beauty in learning for the sake of learning because it builds resilience. And the last point about school in our pjs . I Think good habits are just as important as good education. Getting up at a certain time, getting ready for the day etc, are just simple habits that can help you to be successful in life. No matter what career you’ll have, whether you are in an high end office or you’re a farmer or a homemaker, etc. Good habits+education= success.

I don’t do the affirmations for morning time but my older kids put them in their planners!!!

Absolutely. The habit of discipline is crucial! We're led to believe that motivation is what gets us places, but the truth of the matter is that it's discipline.

Here in north Carolina USA they require end of grade testing and it stresses my kids out so bad....I wish we could skip it

Agreed. It adds insult to injury that so many people blessed to live in states that are more lenient can be very..."speak before thinking"...when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Yes! Affirmations always felt “weird” to me. You put my thoughts into words. Thank you!

This was a great video! I hold many of the same views that you stated here, and it’s nice to hear from others who are taking the same path. The pressure can be intense when it comes to unschooling and people applying pressure on other homeschoolers to be as contrary to conventional learning as possible 😅

I absolutely love watching your videos! Especially when I'm not being good with my own discipline in homeschooling. This is still new to me and we are building our routines. I would love to see how you do Bible verse memorization!! I'm just starting some of this with my 5 yr old and could use some great ideas.

We don’t use affirmations in morning time but I let my older kids put them in their planners if they want!!! Nothing wrong with using a different method!!! We do catechisms and I want to work on Bible memory!!! We don’t test including my older kids apart from what is required!!! I’m glad I did extra curriculas so I’ve let my kids do it!!! We unschool geography but add in curriculum as well!!! I don’t expect my kids to get dressed unless we are going out!!! We go out most days even if it’s a quick outing!!!

I agree with all of them. The pressure out there is all around.I have friends always in the car going places to do the extra curriculum so stressful and expensive. I can not do it. not for us

Oh gosh I am SO on the same page with this. I would much rather have my kids learn their weekly bible verses than go through new age flashcards. 😍

Loved this 👏🏽 I’m definitely with you on the extracurriculars. I’m a HUGE proponent for slow days and letting my kids be “bored” and using their imaginations. We do some seasonal extracurriculars but we don’t push anything on our kids. We give them the option and if they want to and we can afford it we do it. Otherwise I think learning to stay home and not always be on the go in a society that is always on the go is an important skill that kids need to learn nowadays.

We do scripture memory as well. I never knew why I didn’t jive with the affirmations, but this helps me put words to it. Also, we definitely get dressed every day too! What if the neighbor stops by to ask you a question or something? 😱
