The main thing I did differently when cooking with my wood stove is this. If you're going to make a fire, bake something at least once a day. Here in Southern USA I made biscuits, corn2bread or smaller white2bread sandwich rolls. Or apple crisp, brownies ( infrequently) spice cake, and my husband made a killer molasses pie with raisins. We often did a mostly veggie stew with spoond7mplings on top put some potatoes or sweet-potato in the oven when you start the fire, and your tea or coffee on as well as dishwater to heat.. I also had a dish pan for any hand laundry ( like undies. To soak in. Let it sit in the warm water till you come in for. The night and they're done. Rinsed and line dried behind the stove after dinner, and. We don' need no steenkiin maytag! We gotta a dunrite!!

I happened upon your video in my KZbin feed and have become obsessed with them. I live in the USA on the east coast. Everything goes a thousand miles an hour. Your videos bring to my crazy world a sense of peace and beauty in a simple life. A simpler life is all I long for as I downsize my life. Children are grown and on their own. I want to create memories and experiences for my children and grand children not the consumerism that is present in every part of American life.

I made the beef patties and potatoes for dinner last night. I also made the basil garlic butter and put it on top of the beef patty and potatoes. The basil garlic butter really elevated the beef and potatoes. I felt like I was eating dinner made at a restaurant. I will try your breakfast and lunch recipes later this week. Thanks Kalle for sharing these recipes. What is ordinary food to you in Sweden is exotic to those us from other countries.

My husband is Polish . He has always been telling me about this grated carrot and onion dish his mother always made as a side dish for special occasions. She didn't leave the recipe in her books ( although she may have , a lot were written in Polish which I couldn't read ). I tried this for him and he loved it . He said it was the closest he had come to having it again. It's now a family favourite. Thank you .

Did you consider using a small portable induction stove? Far more efficient in terms of energy usage when you don't need to or want to heat up the cabin. Also faster and you can use your iron skillets on it. I've had my single burner portable for about five years now, it was about $25 and it still works as well as new. I think they even sell them at IKEA these days. All the best

My grandparents lived in a very rural area in southern Kentucky and they lived like this when I was a child which was almost 70 years ago. They used wood stoves for heat and my grandmother cooked on a wood stove . This is not a glamorous lifestyle. This is a lifestyle that involves a huge amount of very hard work. They never had indoor plumbing or central heat . They had a huge garden each year and canned a lot of food . They had chickens and cows and pigs. This is hard work !

As someone who speaks Native English (USA English) but is barely passible in a second language, I appreciate it when I'm corrected. Your English is EXCELLENT much better than my Spanish will every be but thought you might find this helpful as you questioned a few things outloud: we call the wood cooking stove, a "Wood Fired Cook Stove" or "Wood Cook Stove"....I know people can use coal or peat in some but in the US (at least) it's Wood Cook Stove...I have one plus a regular heating "woodstove" for heating (which I cook on too)...the veggie cube you used is called "Bullion" here (we stole the French word) so Veg Bullion, Poulty (or Chicken) Bullion, Beef Bullion etc. If it's home made in the pot (from scratch) or purchased in liquid form we refer to it as stock or sometimes bone broth. Broth on it's own is often thought of as something to feed sick people or as a poor excuse for a good homemade stock (I can't help myself, i'm a cook too and broth is brown water to me). yup, Feta is what we call the cheese and yes the herb is Thyme (pronounced by you perfectly as Time). Gorgeous Photography....I want to be there and am in spirit as i'm drinking a small whiskey by my woodstove blasting out the heat. Thanks so much for a peek into your life. Just Wonderful, Thank you so much.

I'm not sure about other places, but in America we call that a wood burning stove or a wood stove. I grew up on the west coast in the Oregon rainforest and that's what we used for heat, but we didn't cook on one unless our power went out in bad weather. I don't have one in my home now, I use a natural gas furnace and/or gas fireplaces.
