Dude, appreciate the effort however not a good advice regarding not talking to your parents. Why not? I'd rather talk to my dad who has same experience dealing with money as is my friend's age. Also, read and watch Ramit Sethi, Dave Ramsey, Graham Stephen, The Financial Diet, & Nate O'Brien to know more about personal finance. All of them have different approach to personal finance and that is why I recommend them so that you have different perspectives which helps you in forming your own approach.

Amazing podcast. My 2 cents being a CA in taxation: saving and investing money does not only give you a sense of security in relation to the amount that you can consider as your wealth, it also helps you in saving tax. So when you are earning 500 and your company deducts 150, out of the 350 that you get, if you invest 100, later on at the end of the financial year you do get refund of the 150 Rs tax that your company had deducted. So it is always a good practice to manage your finances and invest wisely.

When you file your return of income at the end of the year and declare your taxable income after showing all your investments, it can happen that the company deducted 150 while it should have deducted 50. Then you get 100 back from the government. :) I'm sure Tanmay is going to cover something of this sort in the subsequent podcasts so it will be more informative for you!

That woman on the extreme right did say only one line which I relate to so much: "Paisa bats do to log udhar mangne aa jate hai, naye kharche karwane ki koshish karte hai". Dude, I used to speak up freely about what I made (I'm a college student), then came my friends: "Bhai nahi hai kya udhar nahi dega, are pakka next month de dunga", next year aa gaya. "Are bhai paisa nahi hai much order kar de bad me split kar lenge", time never came ofc At the end of the month when I calculated, I couldn't even save money sent by parents and worst of it was that I couldn't even have a expenditure scale as I didn't/couldn't spend a single penny on anything materialistic I can say I have. That was the day I started not speaking about money ffs and acted unemployed again, now I can save shit, buy shit etc andhave a proper expenditure scale. I don't believe in nazar bullshit or anyhthing but Indian society just doesn't understand the concept of hard-earned things, jo tera hai vo mera hai OP in the chat bois.

@Tushar Gupta Example You earn 10000 Rs U invest this 10000rs in a recurring deposit which gives a return of 10% a month ( 10% is just for an example generally in India its about 1-2%) At the end of the first month your accumulated balance would be 1000 ( interest) + 10000 In the next month the opening balance would be 11000 + what amount you deposit At the end of the 2nd month you would earn intrest over the 1000 Rs( 1000*10%= 100) which was the intrest amount earned from the first month The compounding of money works in wonders only if you give it time and invest in the right place In the concepts of finance the single rule is HIGHER THE RISK HIGHER THE RETURN Gold, Fixed deposits, Debentures have lesser risk and thus yeild a lesser return Equity shares , Commodity markets, Foreign currency trading Yeild higher return as the risk involved is very high Risk is the deviation from your expectation Im 20yrs old...i have a lot of knowledge in this as i am a CA final student You can learn more about Financial topics on money control

The fear about money came from our grandparents and their parents. When India was not independent. People started hiding their income. The village I come from there was a wealthy businessman some hundred years ago. He was a contractor of some kind. Then the authorities came to know that this fellow has a lot of money. Some small king of that area came to know about this. Who was protected by the British? This fellow called this small king at home. Served him food in silver plates and golden spoons. Very soon he was heavily taxed on some pretext or another his money was looted. I am saying looted because it was taken away from him to leave him utterly poor. This is not one story there are millions like this. So people stopped hoarding money. People started hiding their money. Even wealthy people started living a very simple life. But this fear was passed on unconsciously from one generation to another. Like our parents did not have that kind of wealth ( I come from a middle-class family) but they never talked about money because even the wall has ears. I always thought about why they were doing this. Then I found out about this incident which came from my own village. I realized that this must have happened rampantly across India at that time. Then all the stories like entire industries in India were destroyed by the British at that time. This became an Indian consciousness. Also, people see that when they talk about money they lose it. I know a businessman who had a huge income. I tried to work with a politician for business. Suddenly IT sleuths were behind him. Even when he had to pay all the taxes direct or indirect. They started trying to find problems. There was some news that a lot of older generation IT officers were retired. All this is connected. That I feel is the reason we don't talk about money.
