What do you guys think about death?
We visited the town of Sapanta in Northern Romania to check out one of the most unique cemeteries in the world; The Merry Cemetery!
This was such a unique and interesting experience and we feel so lucky we got to see it and learn about it. The best part of traveling to us will always be to open our minds and learn about how other people think and how they see things. We can't recommend visiting this place enough! It's not only fascinating, but it is stunning! Almost like a museum 😍
Let us know in the comments what was your favorite part and of course, what do you think about death?
Thanks so much for watching and we will see you next time :)
XO,
Aimara & Gordon

Translation at 4:20 A car I had and I traveled a lot with it. But everything I left behind, once I died. Young from this world I left. I left behind a daughter and a son, without my help, And my wife Anuța, widow she will be from now on. Growing my son, and planning his wedding. I wish only good to everyone and don't forget me. Come by on holidays and leave some flowers on my grave. (He lived 50 years)

Romanians have a very cynical view of life as well as a sense of humour that is much darker than other cultures. We joke about the hardships of life as real as they come. This cemetery is just the natural evolution of these traits. It's not traditional as it is the only one in Romania of this type, but it isn't outside our comfort zone.

We love this about Romanians! Such happy people with a great sense of humor (we like the darkness and how dry the jokes are 😂) - the merry cemetery is definitely a special place 🫶🏼

It comes across as "weird" (as in different) for many of the rest of Romanians too, since we don't have anything like this anywhere else in the country. But maybe this ironic/satirical kind of depicting life and death is a way to cope with what is otherwise a very sad or even tragic event. I like to see it as a mini-journal for each person buried there, not necessarily celebrating anything, but making sure that one way or another they won't be forgotten. P.S. The app is ok, it's just that everything is written in "old Romanian" (an older version anyway), so it doesn't pick up on many things + it skips the puns - I'd wish they'd give tourists some sort of pamphlet in different languages, even if it meant to higher up the entrance fee a bit to do that, there are so many foreign visitors not being able to truly understand and fully enjoy the beauty of this place. Hope you enjoyed your time in Ro and safe travels wherever you're going next! :)

It is such a beautiful idea we think... like you said, maybe it is a way to cope somehow and making sure everyone is remembered... the merry cemetery is a very special place ❤️ - and that makes sense about the app hahaha no wonder a lot of the things didn't make sense 😂 I think there should be a translation too, it would make the experience so much better. Maybe it'll happen one day 🙏🏼 We still have a couple more videos about Romania and I can't believe that's it :( (for this time 😉)

4:20 that's not what it says. In Romanian, we have multiple words for son daughter, some of which could be interpreted as virgin son/daughter, but the original meaning was actually newly born, but it became to mean child aged son/daughter, which was later extended to unmarried son/daughter, which could also be interpreted by some as virgin/son daughter. The contextual meaning here is clear and it is not at all about whether his son had or didn't have sex, but the fact that he the son was a child who had to be raised only by his mom, the widow. I even had a car, With it I traveled a lot, But I've left everything behind, I left my married-daughter and child-son, Without my help. I also left my wife, Anuța, Widow from now on she'll be, Raising up my boy And marrying him up. (with the meaning of organizing it) I wish you all the best, To come over for holidays, On my grave to put some flowers.

I think "I've left my married daughter and child son" is wrongly translated .Correctly in my opinion is : I left my daughter and my son .Because they say fecior to unmarried boys and fata to unmarried woman ."Left" it means that he passed away .You forgot from translation : "Tânăr din lume am plecat". Translated shall be :I left this World young (meaning that he died young 50 years old )

This is a very special place ❤️ It’s so interesting to see how other people look at death. I like to believe it is better after we die, but in the meantime, it’s our job every day to live life to the fullest, pursue our dreams and build a life we’re proud of ✨ hopefully one day, when it’s my turn to leave this world I can look back and say: I lived. I truly lived & made this world a better place ✨🙏🏻❤️

Try Carei too, is a beautiful city among your trip you can see and Satu Mare ahead of Carei{here in Satu Mare is a whole history about flooding problems and dictatorship visit follow by constructions of the river dams of how an engineer made prison for making a bridge higher and it saved it from flood being destroyed and you can see national opera Dinu Lipati maybe and local theater of North, dacia museum, heroes statue, which celebrate the defeat of fascism and nazi from Romanian territory} , and travel much more further to Oradea if you really want a nice and surprising experience. Carei has a cute castle which many don't know about it, and a nice park with trees from different regions of the world, it also has thermal baths park, and there is one more in Tășnad(60+C temperature) , they not open during cold season, but they amazing and highly recommended during summers as they have and cold Olympics swimming pools.

This is a rough translation from 4:27. "I had a car, I traveled a lot with it. But I left them all behind, I left the world young. I left behind a daughter and a son without my help. And my wife Anuta a widow from now on, to raise the son and get him married. I wish you all well and don't forget me. Visit during the holidays and put flowers on my grave". It is actually o poem and sounds nice in Romanian. Enjoy your stay in Romania!

I've been dead before being born, and I was OK with it. :) And after I die it will be just like before being born, so I should be OK with it. Or maybe our reality is just one of infinitely many. Maybe before being born, we lived in another reality, and after we die, we will transcend into a different reality. Or maybe life is just a dream, and when we die, we wake up from the dream. :) Nonetheless, it doesn't really matter. We just live and enjoy the present.
