Any longtime arsenal fan knows this is how a typical arsenal season goes
@Qlicky2 күн бұрын
It really doesn't, and I've been an Arsenal fan for 30+ years. Arsenal lost a single game this season, and it's 30 more to play. 5-6 years ago this would have been a great start to the season. Nowadays it's a terrible start to the season. Nothing about Arsenal nowadays is typical. I don't think you know what a 'longtime Arsenal fan' actually represents.
@davidaguilar88402 күн бұрын
As a long time Arsenal fan you should know sometimes it's the managers fault and not the ref or a single incident. Also Arsenal have beaten Bournemouth plenty of times in the recent years so this isn't normal.
@Qlicky2 күн бұрын
@@davidaguilar8840 It's always someone's fault when results don't meet your expectation. Isn't it? Sorry to burst your bubble, but losing a football game is perfectly normal. ANY game. Having said that, 'typical' implies it happens all the time. That's not the case here, is it?

@spinyslasher6586Күн бұрын
Factually incorrect. City has been the second highest spending club of the 21st century (only exceeded by Chelsea thank to Boehly's madness). Since 2000, Chelsea has spent €3.85bn and City has spent €2.8bn. Comparatively Arsenal spent €1.92bn since 2000, still a lot, but nowhere near City and Chelsea. The reason why recent spending for Arsenal has been high is because City's team has been more or less stable for over half a decade now, while Arsenal had to go through a complete rebuild under Arteta.
@Sproles11Күн бұрын
@@spinyslasher6586note how I said that Arsenal have been spending more for years. It doesn’t mean that they have ALWAYS been spending more. It means that they have been spending more for years. Yes or no, do Arsenal have a higher or lower net spend than City in the last 5 years? What I said is not “factually incorrect”. You just don’t like it so you’re changing the parameters. They have a higher net spend than City since Pep joined. No matter what context you want to bring into the equation, that’s crazy given the levels of success. Going back to 2000 when both of these managers were still players is absolutely ridiculous. But you have to do it to make you feel better about not winning anything of note despite spending a fortune.
@spinyslasher6586Күн бұрын
@@Sproles11 City had more or less done all the business even before Pep. And mate I'm not an Arsenal fan, don't pull me in there. The objective fact is that Chelsea and Man City spent more than Arsenal since their early takeovers and Arsenal are simply having to play catch up. I don't need to 'go back' to an arbitrary time frame, I need to go back to when the money started to pour in.
@Sproles11Күн бұрын
@@spinyslasher6586 if you’re going back 15 years, then you ALSO have to give City and Chelsea the “catch up” excuse that you’re giving this Arsenal team. Also, the money they spent back in 2010 simply does not matter to their current finances. I’d hear you if they recently sold any of those players for big money. But they all basically went on free transfers after their contracts. They have a higher net spend since Pep joined. That’s not some arbitrary number of years. That is the current City group. Only 1 player from Pep’s first year is still at the club. That’s a whole complete rebuild, 6 titles, a CL, a treble, countless other cups. Arsenal has a higher net spend than THAT team. I’m not saying they should be better than City. I’m not saying they’re failures for not winning more. All I’m saying is that we can’t give them the money excuse like it’s 2012. It’s a different Arsenal and it’s a different City.

Judging transfers based on a single game in which they were playing with 10 men for 60+ minutes is just silly tbh. People are losing their mind over this loss when it's literally the first away game Arsenal have lost in 2024 - shit happens. Trossard/Saliba made a mistake putting them down to 10 when they're already playing without 2 of their best players. If Martinelli shoots a few inches to the right, Arsenal most likely hold out for a 1-0 win and the narrative is completely flipped. It's really not as big of a deal as it's being made out to be

You know where we all and Arsenal fans in particular actually need to call it what it was? Not only this game was stale but Arsenal this season has been stale. The only season their play genuinely felt like that of a title contender was the season before last when they first put themselves in that conversation. Even with them finishing better in terms of points this summer, they never amazed me and that has continued into this season. While it‘s true that champions sometimes have to just sit one out and fight through it, you also have to consistently dominant. I don‘t see that happening with the current Arsenal.

I'm sorry but games like this make me seriously doubt how far Arteta's managerial qualities can go. He's done a great job transforming the club and getting us to compete for the title. However, when it comes to whether he can get us to lift a major trophy (i.e. PL or CL), I just feel like he shoots himself in the foot and tries to tinker too much. I also have reservations about his squad-building. Letting Vieira go, letting Smith-Rowe go, not replacing their profiles, then not giving Nwaneri minutes? Yet he wants to field 3 DMs in the midfield? How is this midfield going to create anything at all? Baring Saka, there's no stardust in attack and our defensive security seems to have vanished. There's no balance to the team selections. Just when you feel like he's finally turned a corner, he does some bullshit like this which (for me) calls into question his capabilities. In a league where there is minimal room for error, he sure as hell makes his fair share of mistakes. And whilst I know it's his 1st managerial job, he shouldn't be making errors like this almost 5 years in. Liverpool was already a must-win game, now any result that isn't a win will feel like we've got a mountain to climb.

I dont care if there is another player who is 20 cm closer to goal or if someone could possibly step in and make a defensive play. The defender (in this case Saliba) knows what he is doing and it should be a red. Disagree on the Sterling substitute take. Trossard is as you say cold blooded, he might actually be there and take the opportunity. Sterling is anything but cold blooded and I have seen him play 2 years at Chelsea and he has been clinically unable to take on his/a man successfully in all that time. We all remember the electric Sterling who was good at that sort of thing back at Liverpool, but that was 10 years back. He is not that player anymore.
