Who should START for Tottenham - Pape Matar Sarr or James Maddison? 👀

So far this season I feel like sarr and benta is the better duo
@djpaullawrence99932 ай бұрын
@2:15, we were not keeping Sarr fresh for the game. He had a yellow card. I too wanted him to start for his range on defense more than his creativity. He can check Onana in way Maddison is not able to keep up. Agreed on Bentancur although I wanted Bissouma, but it worked out because along with Richarlison being healthy. It made for better option instead of Bergvall and some creativity off the bench later in the game if needed. I think in a cheeky way without Van de Ven we were able to play deeper as a defensive unit with the fullbacks staying in longer as outlets playing out the back. We beat Villa because they believe in their system to stifle teams. We played through it with speed and precision.

I love how Ben Davies comes into the game, gets the defensive job done and makes an offensive contribution that helps turn the game around. Great man to have on the bench. Thanks for another thoughtful analysis.

I love Davies. He is so reliable, so selfless. Not every player can be a superstar talent like Kane, Bale, or Son. You need squad members like Ben Davies. He always puts in a shift. I hope he moves into coaching or a front office role with Spurs when his playing career is done.

@johnlee90422 ай бұрын
legend says that these lads are still running to this day. As a Korean, it reminds me of Park Ji Sung.. but its most of our team. Johnson was on his last legs but still kept going till the end. In previous games, he would have a defensive lapse here and there or start to decline physically later in the games. Now his fitness and everyone else's, are approaching top levels.

Dont think we have a «best» midfield composition. Kulu and madders for less physical midfields and sarr bentancur/biss for more physical games. I think this versatility is so nice to have. And so equal in quality wich is nice for depth. And they can cover in games if one needs to rest

I think there are certainly good signs of progress under Ange, don't forget we've got a very young team that still have a lot of development in them. If we can improve our away form which is a must then we will be very well placed to challenge going forward. We've got to get behind Ange fully! COYS

Sean Butler has always talked about horses for courses. Sometimes we will need Madders and Kulu to start together. Other games will call for Kulu and Sarr or Madders and Sarr. Sometimes we need Bentancur in the 6 and some games call for BOSSuma. What I love is that we seem to have a complete squad for the first time in a decade. Those Kane, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Walker, Rose, Super Jan, Alderweireld, Lloris teams around 2017 were SO damn good but didn't have this type of depth. I think our current squad has the type of depth that would have won us a Premier League and/or Champions League in those days.

I dont think you can say that we change from 1 6 to 2 6’s when we play sarr instead of maddison. We always have one player that occupies the centre and stays there to form the triangle with the cbs. When sarr plays its just that he tracks back more and covers slightly different spaces, but we always play with one dm.
@BenBowman_2 ай бұрын
Very true - that was a complete midfield performance from Pape

Awesome to see our squads improvement to last season, you can just feel the difference and feel assured when the subs come on. Madders coming in as a sub for some games is just mental, love our team man.

Dom Solanke led the league last year in pressures too btw. That's why when Ange wanted him in the summer I knew why. Then you add that up with the general position he gets his goals from....he's perfect. I never understood the Ivan Toney thing from some fans. Ivan Toney is a good finisher but he's not a hard worker and he comes with an attitude. He would butt heads with Ange and it would have never worked.🤷🏽♂️

Just in general it’s so refreshing to see Spurs play in this fashion, especially when you think of how we played under the three previous managers. It feels like this brand of football finally matches the state of the art stadium we have, as well as having players like Solanke, Son, Romero, VDV, Maddison and the rest. Quality players that are fluid on the ball. Things are looking up again for the first time since early Poch days, but we have to maintain patience as a fanbase. Back Ange. Ben, what do u reckon we need in January?🤔
@yotam862 ай бұрын
I know I'm not Ben but we definitely need another center back to cover for all the injuries cuz just Radu and Ben Davies are not enough
@davidsampaney64292 ай бұрын
@ Agreed, definitely need another left footed defender that can cover the Lb/Lcb positions. We’re too light in that area.

Sarr was our best player for sure but we have a great unity now that no matter the midfield he picks no combination really worries me like it did when I used to see sissoko Or winks or skipp. It’s also great to see ange getting the hard calls right depending on the opposition, instead of having a fixed 11 like we did last season we can keep the opposition guessing to some degree as too who they will be up against. I’m Buzzing for Ipswich
@reubenanderson27252 ай бұрын
I think Windy on the Extra Inch was right - the difference in the 2nd half was that we got the ball to Son more quickly, so Villa didn’t have time to drop and double team.

Ange is slowly bringing us back to the level we saw in his first 10 games good times are ahead
@jamescaldwell73962 ай бұрын
Totally disagree. We are playing much better than the first ten games last season. The only game that was ultra impressive in the first ten games last year was the Burnley game where we could have scored 8. There were plenty of games where we scored very late goals to get over the line, often deep in injury time. The only game which has been an outlier is the Palace game. They were not up to play any football, just to physically batter spurs. Every other game we could have and arguably should have won. The squad is sooo much deeper, we have similar injuries to last year after the Chelsea match yet it is not doomsday. We definitely need one more quality left centre back at Christmas though this team is already very good. Put two more years on the average age of the squad and it WILL be elite.

You remember that scene from Rocky 2 where Micky tells Balboa that the only way he can beat Apollo is with “dirty greasy fast speed”. I think Ange saw that and said “yes, this is the way” cause Sarr is the Van Der Ven of midfield, Solanke is the Van Der Ven of attack, and Micky Van Der Ven is the Van Der Ven of defense. You add in Son, Kuls, and Johnson and it’s not even fair to the other teams .

The main issue from the corner which seems to be overlooked, is why Porro is the first man. Should have one of the tallest there to clear, yet it’s Porro who, without Maddison on the pitch is the shortest Spurs player by about 4 inches.
@joshbarton22922 ай бұрын
I think the idea was to use the full backs and Sarr centrally to tire out villa’s midfield in the 1st half. As soon as that was done, Ange switched the tactic, and bamb goals.

Some time big ange need to invite pressure from opponent to let's then break up their 6+1 back line..if spur keep adding pressure opponent will not step up from low block..low block situation will make spur hard to create change because spur don't have winger who able to cary ball through back line..

16:42 Think this is showing the depth and versatility of our squad. We can have sarr and Bentancur and Kulu. Or against teams that are going to sit back we can have Kulu and Maddison. We have options which I don’t think we have had before. We have had a 1 team and now we have a squad.

Hi Ben, I’ve seen George Scaife do a video rating the goals his team have conceded, and I believe he’ll do one on the goals they’ve scored. I’d love to see a spurs version and see your insight into how we score and concede. Love the vids mate 👍
@duyetpham20032 ай бұрын
I feel much more comfortable and safer with Bentancur and Sarr with Kulu. Madders need to fight harder if he even want that 10 role back from Kulu. That free kick was nice but need to do much more, a pseudo redemption arc to say. Although never say never, we might need him alongside Kulu if we decided to go 2 CAM's in the future but that formation is just risky atm. If we can bring in another solid CDM and build a more robust, more framed in physicality and ball recovery of a back four then I'm confident.

I don’t think Spurs have a “best” midfield. We have sufficient players with different skills that we can pick a midfield to match whatever is required for the opponent we are facing. And we can change it mid-match if needed. We will only get better as time goes on.
