I am excited to share what we have been using. It might seem like a lot but I did share our schedule both in the video and in the description box below to give you an idea of how we keep it light. What are you using?

This is going to sound weird, but when you do down shots, can you try it more from your angle of vision? Since that's how we naturally look at tabletop items. It's weird looking at it from this shot. Thank you!!

I don't fully understand what you mean by my angle of vision.

My girl is in 2nd also and for Language Arts we are doing All About Spelling Evan Moor Grammar and punctuation Evan Moor language fundamentals Evan Moor Reading Comprehension A Reason for handwriting (which is a christian based handwriting curriculum) We also do daily reading We were doing Fix it Grammar but it started to be too hard for her and I was advised I was starting a bit early so we decided to table it for next year. We also purchased the new AAS birds practice book as birds is our main focus this year! It gives great practice and bird facts!

I love that you don't use a writing curriculum! I don't either, and lately I've been stressing myself out because we don't use one and I thought maybe we should? But definitely not going to and just really stick to what we've been doing. The MCT series looks so good! I forgot I had that on my list to check out! We're using Masterbooks for ELA and we really love it so far, but since it is super light, I think we can add MTC without being overwhelmed.

I just figured that we will get to writing (and have with my big kid. There is no reason to stress it too early. We started with Poodle last year and just read it. Yesterday, she did a whole sentence on her own with 2 level analysis. It's truly an amazing approach!

I am doing All About Reading with my son and we love it. Only in Lesson 9 of Level 1 so I haven't added in Spelling yet. I do plan to go with All About Spelling. I also like the idea of focusing on grammar before adding in a bunch of writing or following a specific curriculum. I am looking at the MCT you are using but haven't decided yet. Anyway, my question is, at what point would you recommend we add in Spelling and Grammar? I find different answers between different curriculums, just wondering what you found works or are good skills to look for before throwing too much at my son.

All about spelling recommends starting their level 1 after finishing All About reading level 1. For grammar I started that last year so after all about reading level 2. We just read about Poodle last year, this year she's fully engaged working the sentences herself. So, maybe after level 3. I feel like it's worked well.

We also don't do a "writing curriculum". I agree there is too early an emphasis. Writing comes to Layla naturally. So for our "writing" expectation we do handwriting and grammer (which I encorporate into her spelling" and she has notebooks/journals that she writes in on her own free will. And she does it without me prompting her. A more natural progression. When she wants to write something down she does. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is this somewhat like “fix it grammar” and other IEW LA curriculum? But more streamlined and less materials.

Honestly no idea, no experience with it. Someone here might pop in with an answer. Sorry I can't help more.

Do you feel that both the student and instructor books are needed for MCT poodle series? Or can you get away with just using the instructor manual? Thanks for your great content!

I did that last year. I'll link my first video on Poodle, but basically we would read together and I would take a pic of the practice sentences on my iPad and let her use the apple pencil after I erased the answers. She'd get so excited to use the tablet. You could easily just write or type the practice sentences. I would absolutely choose the instructor manuals over student if you just did 1.

I noticed the preliminary book is only 8 chapters....would you just start on the next book after? How many books would you go through in one school year? All of them?

We are doing 1 chapter a week, so for the first 4 books, my plan was to have that take 26 weeks.
@MakingEverydayMagic

Adding in the new book, it'll be right at 32 weeks.
