This is an excellent review and I so wish I could have seen this a few years back. We’ve used LLATL for 2 years now and will continue next year. So far we’ve used the red, yellow, purple and tan books. I do agree on the book studies. They are so random and if you use them, I think they do need to be scheduled in. What I ended up doing was finding my own unit studies with the suggested book study and we’d incorporate that into our LA for the week. I also picked up some literature from the passages and did the same with finding a unit study to match like Strawberry Girl. It really brings the passages to life when they are reading from the same book. For my younger child who has difficulty with spelling, we’d actually skip the spelling portions all together and use All About Spelling and All About Reading. The price point is so amazing and the fact that it’s open and go is what keeps us coming back.

That’s a FANTASTIC idea about incorporating unit studies for the books - thanks for sharing! Did you find resources on Teachers Pay Teachers for that?
@meganrose229 ай бұрын
@@blessedhomeschool I just found them free off of Pinterest but I’m sure TPT has great ones as well! It was fairly easy to do since the e curriculum is so open and go. It was the only thing we had to plan out. And again, we just picked and chose which books I knew my kiddo seemed interested in! This year, we’ve skipped some book studies and we’re ok with that too. Or he can read them independently with no study.

would you say the teachings are true to grade level? or advanced or a little behind?

For us I found them to be pretty true to grade level! They have placement tests on the website that I’d recommend having your kids do just to make sure!

Some of the levels do include the book studies in the 36 weeks of lessons. I know the yellow and Orange do. We are also working through the purple book. Keep the book studies separate and we complete them as my daughter reads the books. I just have her read a chapter per day. So it is taking quite a while to get through Farmer Boy but we just keep plugging away.

@scotttoney69979 ай бұрын
@@AlishaGarciax yes, each book color is loosely connected to a grade level. It’s written small on the back to show what grade level it’s recommended for.

We use TGTB language arts and I love the open and go approach but it doesn’t always work so we miss some parts and do another curriculum for that part of language arts!!! I think the book studies should be scheduled!!! I love that it’s a unit study approach!!! It looks like brave writer!!!

Could you go a video on BJU language arts? I’m considering it but it just seems like SO much! Like multiple teacher guides just for reading?! I’m worried it will be over whelming for my kids (and me 😅)
@blessedhomeschool8 ай бұрын
Which grade level would you be using? I am going to do a flip-through of our 6th grade lit coming up; for the younger levels I used their Online Video Lessons, so I didn’t use teacher guides for those ones! But yes, typically they have separate curriculums/guides for spelling, handwriting, English, and reading, so…it can definitely be a lot (if you follow it exactly to a T).

Hi. That is an excellent review. I wanted to know how lpng does each day take in a lesson? Especially how different are the length of each day lessons for let's say for poetry, for writing lessons, and for everyday words..
@blessedhomeschool7 ай бұрын
Most days it's 30 minutes or less. Occasionally (if there is more writing or research involved) it could be between 30-60 min., but generally less than 30. Thanks for watching!!

My girls are in the same grade (twins!). I did have both of them take the placement test available online though to make sure they were in the correct level. It’s possible you could have them work together if they are pretty similar in their skills!
