I’m amazed by those corners and inset areas staying perfect. It’s a pain when you have a small area that goes in with nothing to really secure it. Like under the front bumper it goes deep in but it’s a big radius curve. That license plate area however has that tiny indented section that give me so much trouble on stuff I wrap.

That's cool showing what can happen to a wrap in different conditions. My first wrap was my own 300ZXtt I did over 10 years ago with Oracal gloss black. I heated the ever loving sh!t out of every single edge and anywhere there was a "reverse stretch" which took a lot of time but my wrap looks as good as the day I installed it. Of course it is garaged 99% of the time ;)

Just look at the body line “gap” between the parts. It’s wider from where the bumper meets the fender closer to the wheel and starts to narrow to no gap at the headlight. He probably bumped the car as you can see how the vinyl got stretched. The bumper got pushed back making the affected vinyl area look like it got pulled forward.

Could also be the front bumper skirting (spoiler) is jacking the entire nose piece around in the wind. Doubt it is supported on the backside enough for all the force it would be getting at 70-90mph...

Just discovered your channel! Great vids and great instruction! Just did my first wrap job. Nothing big...just a part on my jet ski that I messed up (trying to remove a huge stupid warning sticker). Instead of paying somebody to do it, figured I’d give vinyl wrap a shot (after a failed attempt at painting the part). Bought some gloss black 3M 2080 and turned out amazing (for me...I’m sure you could find SEVERAL flaws haha). I’m learning. Gonna tackle a roof section on our VW GLI next. Something nice and flat! Lol

What really got Christian noticed was when he put black holographic chrome on his car and it took off from there...the video went around the world...to Asia...to South America...everywhere. It was unique and one of a kind. That particular vinyl had not been released yet to the public so everyone paid attention. He even received a call from West Coast Customs in California. Everyone wanted to know about it. He had been doing wraps for a while before that and his business was starting to become known from just word of mouth because he did quality work and stood by it and because of these two things everyone wanted him to wrap their cars. It didn't happen over night in the beginning he worked 100 hours a week....it took a while but he was really dedicated and actually loved the work. Hope this helps.

Good eye, I caught that too, the body line “gap” starting from where the fender meets the bumper is wide and than forward towards the headlight gets narrow to no gap. regardless of vinyl wrap or not, that could chip the paint off as well.

A washer is thick enough so the wrap doesnt bind up but thin enough not to leave a gap so take bumper cover off push bolt or pushlock thru bumper add washer and fasten to fender then your wrap shouldnt bind

Hey Christian, I wrapped a Tahoe with Vvivid gloss black and even though I didn't stretch over the indentations (laid it in to prevent tension) I got those same bubbles in the groves of the truck. I cleaned the area well with Alcohol also. Do you know what usually causes this even though measures were taken so this didn't happen?
@EnergizerTX5 жыл бұрын
quick question, how do wraps hold up to door-dings and hail damage? does pdr work with wraps? does it cause issues, bubbling, etc. since the wrap is stretched a little and would heat need to be applied? I take it surface pdr pulling is not recommended.
@Hawc19875 жыл бұрын
You would need to do paintless dent removal before installing the wrap. The vinyl would not hold up to that process. And vinyl would not protect from door dings and hail. Those may not break through the vinyl to the point you see the original color though. Rock chips in the front bumper and mirrors are where you are most likely to have an issue. Nice thing about vinyl though is you can easily replace a single panel.
@EnergizerTX5 жыл бұрын
@@Hawc1987 that's not really what i was asking. I understand vinyl will not prevent dents. I was asking how well vinyl holds up, does the vinyl get ruined, can you do some basic pdr on it (for like a basic door ding, assuming the vinyl isn't torn). Clearly I mentioned that pulling for pdr probably isn't recommended as you'd be pulling on the vinyl and adhesive.

How much is it suppose to last? I mean if I'd wrap my car for God knows how much 1000-2000€ I'd expect it to last way longer than e Year. But as i mentioned I don't know how much it lasts usually or how much a full car wrap costs.
@jakegonzales70515 жыл бұрын
You have mentioned the room temp recommendations; if it's hot, is the vinyl a lot harder to reposition and is it harder to get the bubbles to move(out)?
@Richard974025 жыл бұрын
Hey Jake. If you are using a heat activated adhesive (most brands) then you are correct. As it gets hotter, the adhesive will activate more "aggressively". When the vinyl is applied to the surface, that bond (glue to panel) will be stronger due to the heat activating the glue. You can still wrap, but it is more difficult. It will be harder to reposition the film. Make sure to lift the film in one swift motion. Pulling a little at a time, can cause the film to tear, or possibly leave glue marks. With a film like Avery Dennison, you don't really have the same problem, since it is a pressure activated film, instead of heat activated. You reposition it, to your heart's content, and them press it down, to lock it in. As far as bubbles... I've wrapped between 50°F and about 90°F. I've never found a problem with removing bubbles. Most of that is up to the effectiveness of the air release technology of the film that you use. If you have the vinyl pretty close (ideally "glassed") the isn't much air to push or anyway. Hope that helps.

I think he did this video mainly to show that imperfect painted cars, can still look good wrapped. Just may be worth the while to touch up the body work prior as we can see... But since this more of a dull metal look, the rough canvas still pulls the look off with a satisfactory imitation of aged stainless metal...
