For the ebay vinyl, you're supposed to remove the protective cap when you get it. The protective cap is rigid and is causing the tunneling of the vinyl. When you lay it down, there will be lines in the vinyl where the tunneling has occurred.

Great video and very timely per something I'm looking to apply to the top of my truck. I was originally looking at a textured CF product, but another poster (replacing their 3M/Avery product) mentioned they had problems keeping it clean. So, now I'm swayed to a gloss finish instead for easier maintenance. The new VV Tek R looks like a great option. I contacted the manufacturer yesterday via their website and asked if they had any discount codes, and they promptly responded back with one 🙂.

I would go for the vvivid ..i personally used it on my car..(well had it installed). Had my hood wrapped just recently And it looks fantastic. Shiny and realistic. Very good. Very smooth also. Almost like a real paint job

I got the vvivid I like the look but it wouldn't stick to anything no adhesive at all it seemed like so I went with the 3m and actually like the look better

Hmm...that's weird? Did you give it a bit of heat? VVivid has a heat activated adhesive. I've never experienced what you described...in fact, it's been opposite for me. The Teck R adhesive has always been a bit more aggressive than other vinyls in my experience.

Thanks and thanks for watching. If I were to put one on my car, probably the new VVivid Tek R. I personally like the gloss carbon fiber look, and among the gloss carbon fiber vinyl wraps out there, it's the most durable (check out this vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHNk3yPaa5mapI) If I were to get a non-gloss carbon fiber vinyl, I'd probably go with VVivid's True R...it doesn't have a gloss laminate over it, but the patterning gives it a slight sheen, which many people have commented to me that it makes it look way more real (even in a "dry" look) than Avery or 3M or other "dry" look carbon fiber vinyls. I've had True R on several of my cars over the years, and it's done very well.

I can't say as I've never seen their Epoxy Carbon Fiber in person. VVivid's Epoxy carbon fiber vinyl is intended for interior use, so I haven't ordered any samples to compare it with or use, as my applications have all been for exterior use, for the most part.

Great video. What about matte carbon fiber vinyl. I'm trying to match the OEM Tesla Model Y Performance matte carbon with a vinyl. I can't seem to find anything even close. I want to wrap other trim and aero pieces to match. Any advice?

Thanks and thanks for watching. Matching factory to aftermarket can be tricky. My only advice is to order samples of different brands so you can see in person what may work best. Sometimes, it just may not be possible to get a perfect match, but there may be one that's "close enough."

are their foeged carbon vinyl wrapa? how do those look? you are missing a real carbon piece for comparison because how do we know the Vivid stuff is the most realistic (looking) w/o real carbon 3k twill weave to compare to. 2nd, how does each vinyl apply, i.e. ease of application/workability? 3rd, how does each vinyl stretch and go around corners/complex shapes? it's great that you like the Vivid-R material; however, this was just a "looks" comparison amongst imitations w/o a performance demonstration. I'm still not sold.

Hi, and thanks for watching! Yes, this was strictly just a "looks" comparison among various carbon fiber vinyls, not a performance demonstration. I do wish I had real carbon fiber to compare to, but I don't have easy access to a sizeable reference piece. Also, there are forged carbon vinyl patterns as well. I was contemplating doing a "performance" video to illustrate not just looks, but also how well each vinyl applies and the like. However, it's hard to capture the nuances of the application of each vinyl during application, as there is a very tactile factor in the application process that is, at least in my opinion, very difficult to relay in a video only demonstration. But, I think I'll have to go ahead and do a performance demo since there appears to be some interest :-) Thank you and thanks for your feedback! I think you're asking who has the best looking matte or satin CF vinyl...in that case, I personally like VVivid's True R series. But, that's my personal taste.

I think the biggest point is do you go for the cheaper glossier version and sacrifice water getting in between the laminate and destroying the look completely and having to replace it or do you get the one thats already been in the game for years and has always been reliable in terms of durability and quality, some of those wraps are glossier in my opinion but how long will it last before water seeps in or the sun eats the cheap laminate, again buy cheap you get cheap , its very rare to find a manufacturer that offers high quality products for the “low” as for vivid i think it’s decently priced for the quality of the product.

There is some truth in “ you get what you pay for” 😁. The cheap stuff actually does look good, but yeah, the durability is questionable for exterior use. I think for interior applications it would be fine though. In my opinion, Vvivid offers the best in terms of realistic looks AND durability.

No, the gloss laminate on top makes it smooth to the touch. The vinyl under the laminate is textured though from what I can tell.

I know, right. Admittedly, the generic eBay, no-name Chinese 5D carbon fiber vinyls do look better than I would have expected, especially compared to big brand names like Avery or 3M. However, I've discovered although they look good, there's a reason why they're so cheap. One of those reasons is because they use a floating laminate design, water can get under the laminate and will eventually cause the vinyl to come apart. So basically, the eBay stuff is not good for exterior/outdoor use. I have a video in the works I'll publish soon doing an experiment that shows water gets under the cheap Chinese carbon fiber vinyl laminate.

The 3M Matt looks the best. The rest look cheap, even the 3M glossy. The vivid is a terrible example to compare them to. In any case, for a wrap that can be changed at any time, it doesn't really matter.

...but remember, ppl using cf vinyl wrap are peacocking in a sense. they are putting on a show for other ppl and trying to get other ppl to go "uuuh, aaaah". it's a pure styling exercise. folks into real cf are in it for the properties of the material; not to impress others. I also dislike carbon overlays as much as carbon-look vinyl.
