You didn't see JJ drop the high jump pass in the endzone? He had two hands on the ball and dropped it. How about Addison never getting open? How about Hockenson? Didn't do a thing against his former team. Yes, Sam overthrew a few balls. But it's not like he overthrew WIDE open receivers all the time. Maybe once or twice? Otherwise, they were all covered.

That's par for the course for fan bases that haven't won in a while, or not at all. Nerves should be higher when you're good because 'maybe this is our year' becomes more possible. It might even be better to go in as the 'hungry dog' again because of the loss, than it would be with the #1 Seed and all that pressure of being the hunted _and_ the favorite.

I don’t know what game Warner was watching but it wasn’t the same game I watched. Darnold absolutely should have had minimum 3 TD passes but missed, and missed badly, wide open receivers. His overthrows were terrible and repetitive. Could KOC have adjusted the play calling to some quicker releases, slants, crossing patterns, for sure. But Sam still has to hit wide open receivers

Yes they were wide open, but it's extremely hard to throw a perfect pass when a pass rusher is literally in your face in like 2 seconds. Those plays are ment to be thrown to a spot, and the recievers didn't have time to get to their spots before he had to throw it. Did he air mail some throws, yes, but again with someone in your lap making your throw that much harder doesn't help. Darnold will be fine. He didn't have a mvp type season and fooled everyone for 16 games but the 17th the real Sam Darnold showed up....

Darnold missed at least 3 TDs in the redzone. It was all on him. What game did Kurt Warner watch? I'm sure Lions' D-Line pressured Darnold but it was not like they out played them. It was an off day from Vikigns offense!!

No, The Vikings were outplayed. Hockenson is a $17million dollar a year Tight End without a single touchdown the entire season, let alone the game. Jefferson had 3 catches for 55 yards. Addison had 1 reception for zero yards. no running game. Lions played the jaguars and dropped 52 on them. Or was that the Titans? it's all a blurr. anyway I digress, The Vikings were lucky to get out of that Jaguars game with 12 points and not a single touchdown. This isn't a one game problem. The Lions spotted the Vikings two interceptions, one of them at the goal line, and they still couldn't punch it in. You blame Sam Darnold? It's not like Darnold was playing in a vacuum, the Lions D pressured him to no end and caused his bad game. I keep hearing, well it was close for 3 quarters but Sam Darnold...... Shut it. The Vikings never lead the entire game. I also hear, If Jefferson caught this and Jefferson caught that, it would be a different story. I tell you what, you get your "IF"s back then the lions get their "If"s back. If Goff didn't throw an interception, Jefferson wouldn't have even had a chance to miss his, "IF"s. What game were you watching?

Problem in the game was the Viking coaches seeing that Darnold was being assaulted, did not find a way to stop that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND many good throws from Darnold's receivers were not caught! After first half, Viking's coaches had no adjustments to change things! It seemed that they were content just playing their original game plan with no adjustments!

@@Pressure115 I made a comment somewhere before the game that the big question for me about Darnold going in was that he hadn't played in a game with something actually on the line since the Rose Bowl, 7-8 years ago. And how was he going to handle that kind of pressure. Well, now we know it wasn't easy for him, and now he has a week to get his mind plugged in again and realize why dropped the ball. He has done it before, this year, and he has that to fall back on once again.

Vikings offense...against a physical defense like the Lions, consider running more bunch formations and placing your receivers in motion. This week, consider training the WRs on how to fend off press coverage; much more hand technique work.

His first 10 or so throws were high and to the side or short. He had a terrible game. I’m still a fan and he had another game like that before. I think they’ll be okay.

First time he's played in a game with something on the line since the Rose Bowl, so yeah I expected the nerves and pressure could be a factor. Now he has a chance once again to show what he's made of. Might even work out better that they are now underdogs again.

The Vikings are going to have to start throwing some quick slants and other plays they can do to beat a blitz. Darnold can't hang on to the ball as much as he was. He's got about two seconds, anything longer and the Rams are going to be back there and Darnold is going to look lost like he did against the Lions.

This Lions game was a "playoff game test." Grade? Fail; Fortunately there's a "make-up exam" coming Monday vs. Rams in L.A. KOC and Flores have to have a Plan A; Plan B; and if necessary, Plan C; ready for instituting per the circumstances of the game. JET, J.A. Speedy and Hock have to overcome physical press coverage but most importantly, the OL has to block for Sam D. like they did in the GB game. Otherwise, Vikes may indeed go "one and done" and most newbs will just blame Sam D. for the loss.

Are you a coach? Our defence was fine. No need for 5 plans to win a game pal. Pretty simple really. We should have had td when we had possession but we didn’t. Maybe let’s work on that. Maybe let’s work on plays that adjust to the coverage on our stars so we can get them the ball and make ground. Maybe we should run the ball on third down if we know we’re going for it on forth.

Okay so that indicates you’re blaming the rest of the team. You think Jets should start working with nba stars so he can learn to jump 12 feet high to catch a Sam Darnold pass? Yes it is unfair. But these same people were ready to anoint him with a 50 million dollar contract before the games got tough and the season ended. If the Vikings lose to Los Angeles. Sam Darnold will not be with the Vikings next year and he might only sign for 20 million somewhere else.

Not sure what game some of these people watched. Sam missed at a minumum 5 touchdowns. Many people have watched the tape and said that. Do some of these people really even watch the games? I mean the Vikings did not match the physicality of the Lions, but they should have been up 21-10 or 28-10 at halftime. Not saying they would have won, but this way a one possession game going into the 4th quarter. Not a domination, choked. Vikings defense played amazing

@jcharles8801 The Lions had 10 points at halftime. Really should have been 7 but the kicker made a huge mistake. And the Lions had 17 points going into the 4th quarter. They picked off Goff twice. They gave the vikings offense 2 red zone opportunities and they got 0 points. Who else over the last 2 months has held the Lions to 10 or less points at half. You could tell in the 4th quarter the whole team gave up.

Inexperienced QB tends to break when it's too much at stake. That was an important game to determine the 1st seed and it must be difficult to function under the stress. That is why playoff teams love inexperienced QB. Post season is different from regular season. You need to be mentally tough and know how to get it done when it matters most.

It’s one pressure game that Darnold could not handle. I’m hoping he has learned fast and applies the correction asap. KOC also needs another back up plan just in case. Mix it up so that the opposition are kept guessing.

Kurt’s right. Vikes failure was a Vikes failure not a Darnold failure. O Line lost too many 1on1’s. Receivers didn’t break free of press coverage (refs allowed too much contact). KOC didn’t adjust play calling to open up receivers more for an easier release (motion). That said - Darnold struggled as well. He is sailing his ball too often (games leading up to now as well). Coaches need to check his feet, hips, elbow, and wrist to correct this like now to prepare for the Rams.

Vikings offense was out of sync. Darnold was definitely off. But receivers were also not creating separation. Add in a couple bad penalties, missing catches, missed field goal, bad kick-off. Defensively- great 1st half and really doing what was identified for them to win. They just didn’t get help from the offense and from special teams. This Vikings team needs all 3 areas to play well and we got 1 for 1 half of the game.

It wasn’t just Sam having a bad game, the oline couldn’t hang in there with the pressure from the defense, and KOCs play calling was poor all game. Hockinson dropped a few too that were right in his hands. You have to run the ball more, tire out that Defense in the NFL. a balanced offense is a successful offense

The quarterback is the leader. As goes the quarterback, goes the offense. Sam was totally out of wack, sailing balls right over open receivers. Missed at least several wide open scoring opportunities. Most hyped game he's ever been in and the pressure got to him. Hopefully he can recover.

Sam Darnold had a bad game and the missed redzone opportunities in the first half were a huge advantage for the Lions in the second half. While I didn't feel like the officiating was biased, a lot of the "physical play" by the secondaries were penatlies with most officiating crews - this reallly worked to Lions advantage. Warner's comment on KOC's play calling is grossly understated. Until KOC starts calling quick realease pass plays, this offense is not going to get much better.

Idk man I understand that Kurt knows football a lot better than I do (understatement), but Darnold played **BAD**. I'm talking like 10-15 throws that could've been completed that were either air mailed, delayed, or low. The defense held Detroit to like 10 points well into the 3rd quarter. You're talking about potentially a top 3 offense in the history of the NFL being held to ONE touchdown at HOME. You can't sustain that forever, and you certainly can't sustain it when your offense isn't picking up first downs, missing field goals, leaving points on the board by throwing it 4 times in a row in goal to go situations, etc. I'm a diehard Vikings fan but that game was demoralizing. When you look at the other top teams... KC, Buffalo, Baltimore, Philly, Detroit etc... have any of them lost a game in that fashion, where they just get completely embarrassed? Nope. Concern is putting it mildly.

Let’s not forget the refs stepping in twice, they once to freeze kicker, they once wen Jefferson was in back field uncovered and the refs all but pointed out that plus paused the game for some reason so lions could adjust. Or the blown intentional grounding call in endzone. Also they were absolutely mugging the WRs are line of scrimmage terrible refs helped lions along until vines D got tired. Was ridiculous
